LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Lakers at BSU.

Heading over Hwy.2 earlier this morning for Tonight's game.

Friday in Bemidji, then heading to Grand Forks to see the North Dakota-Montana football game on Saturday. I have been told, and have now confirmed, that the LSSU-BSU games, both Friday and Saturday night, will be on TV in the Northland. I am told that many (if not all) BSU home games are televised with their own production group and broadcast via PBS. So I will be able to stay with friends and family and watch the LSSU game after the football game. I am not technically savy AT ALL, so I don't know how a person may or may not link into that broadcast. My guess is that the BSU hockey web page would have live streaming of the broadcast that might be superior to the LSSU stream. Or perhaps the local Bemidji PBS station has a live feed via the internet. Either way, I wanted to pass on the information that the LSSU game is on TV this weekend . . . what good that does for anyone outside of the Bemidji region is unclear.

Injuries coming fast and furious. I have heard nothing about Lain, but I've been busy with work this week and haven't stuck my head up from my desk in a few days. LSSU should match up well against BSU, check hard, check close, and hopefully KK can rebound from his rough Houghton experience. As Ken Dryden said in his famous book, "All goalies have really bad games from time to time. The trick is learn how to come back, how to have a short memory." I hope KK forgets how to even spell Houghton or MTU.

I'm pretty sure Lain won't be playing this weekend. I think they are hoping he will be ready for the MSU series next weekend. The only video link I see at the Bemidji hockey website for the game is for America One pay for view.

Hello, Lakerblue...

The Minnesota PBS station that shows all of BSU's home games (in HD, no less) is broadcast across a very large area actually. The area includes pretty much all of North Dakota, from what I understand. You should have a decent shot at finding it on TV there. If not, you can indeed find it at http://www.americaonesports.com/ for $8. The feed that America One picks up for home BSU games is the actual PBS broadcast, in my experience anyway, so the quality is very good.

Have a good time at the Sanford Center tonight and good luck to your Lakers (but slightly better luck to my Beavers).

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

We have a new recruit for next season, a forward from Port Huron of the NAHL. This must be one of the kids that was in for a visit in the last couple of weeks.

I guess I need to revise this post. We now have a second kid who has committed today, another forward, this one from Carleton Place of the CJHL.

Nice to see Kapalka rebound and get the shutout tonight.

I agree nice bounce back game, even if Bemidji is bad offensively. Just hope the offense picks up the pace.

Heard on the broadcast that the Lakers travel to both UAA and UAF the middle of next season. Also NMU doesn't come up to the Sault next year.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

I hope Saturday nights are not going to end up the way Friday nights were last year. It sounded like the Lakers played well for most of the game.
Lots of hockey to play for them to right the ship.
Nice looking couple of recruits, the coaches have been doing a great job with that IMO.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

The Lakers scored one goal this weekend and yes I know they had a second with an empty netter . To say they had no offense is an under statement . The lack of offense will once again be their undoing if they don't find a way to right that part of their game. Doesn't matter how good the new recruits look if they don't get goals to win games. Seems every year we hear how good they look going up and down the ice and than how bad they become when shooting the puck. Scoring is just as important as looking good going up and down the ice.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

I think 2-2 is a good start. three of four on the road. After watching MSU last weekend on ESPNU against Minnesota I think we will sweep them and a 4-2 start with a 2-0 start in league play would be as much as we can ask for. I thought we played very well on Thursday against MTU who split with a powerhouse Minnesota team last weekend.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Back from the Great Hwy.2 adventure.

Friday night at Bemidji. The rink is very nice. It felt like an LSSU game in many respects. I prefer the Lakers home stadium only because it has such unique character. BUt the BSU Sanford Center was very nice. Everyone was very friendly. Friday night, the Lakers played a perfect road game, and stangled the Beavers into submission. The score weas 2-0, as we know, and that accurately reflects the number of scoring chances for each side. While KK faced a few tough-ish shots, the team defense was wonderful in front of him. I thought the forwards worked hard, but only McParland's line ever created any serious scoring threats throughout the game. But the Defensemen did a great job getting the puck out of the zone, and the Beavers were rarely able to set up the zone. The crowd was eliminated entirely. In the end, a nice win and a good bounce-back for KK and the D-Men after being blasted by Tech.

(By the way, feel better about Tech now? They gave Minnesota everything those scumbags could handle. And in my opinion, but for the absurd penalties called early in the game which horribly favored the stinkin gophers, Tech probably could have swept Minnesota. That is a fast, smart, skilled hockey team in Houghton).

Saturday was an odd game for the Lakers. For the first two periods, despite the score, LSSU really carried the better end of the play. BSU cashed in on their only real scoring chances. LSSU hit a few pipes and a cross-bar. Again, the McParland line was responsible for most of LSSU's quality attack. BUt in the 3rd, the wheels came off.

So now we have back to back weekends where the team collapses in on the road on Saturday night. In this case, it was one very bad period (same as in Houghton the weekend before). I would imagine this gives serious credibility to the Coach's argument that the team cannot take any time off while on the ice. They can't coast, and they can't let their concentration wander even for a short moment.

And as frustrating as this is, they are still 2-2 -- and 2-1 on the road. Its too early to use this as a sample size, but I think its fair to say that the boys are able to stand up two pretty fact, quick teams in some very tough buildings. Michigan State is coming . . . lets send those cake-eating Big Ten jerks packing back over the bridge.

The defense rests, however check your facts, they are 1-2 on the road. I'm sure you think they should have won in a 5-0 loss on Saturday, but it is a loss, along with the route at Michigan Tech last week.

Glad you enjoyed the Sanford Center. It is a nice facility for a town the size of Bemdiji, I just wish the seating was a little steeper, that is my only complaint. And it still doesn't have the atmosphere the old John Glas had, but that will come with time (and victories).

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

I got no shins! Hank, get me my shin jelly! I am short, cranky, and slightly crazy. I like Conway Twitty and smell like holy heck. But I love the Lakers. SO much that I come on here, this random message board, daily to share my love.

Thanks, Cotton Hill, for sharing your love.

Absolutely childish the lengths some of you people go up there. I guess if I was constantly defending this administration for the 8th straight year, I might resort to such immature tactics. Classless!!!

Absolutely amazing and fun the lengths some of you people go up there. If I was smarter, I also might resort to such AMAZING tactics. Incredible!!! I LOVE King of the Hill!

Yup -- King of the Hill is pretty cool.

Go Lakers!

I'm a big believer in pulling a goalie after multiple goals to inspire the team to give it that extra bit of effort. I would have liked to see Ravn go in after we were down 3-0 on Saturday. It probably wouldn't have mattered, but it must be tough, mentally, for KK to go from Win->Blowout Loss->Shutout win->Blowout Loss.

I agree, but after watching the Lakers lose one game after another on Friday nights last year, I doubt we will see anyone other than KK. Any other coach would have made a change after the 3rd or 4th goal.

I noticed Ainsworth was playing Saturday night. Does anyone know what the deal is there. Was he hurt the past few weeks or ineligabile?

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Roque should have played a different goalie last year on Friday nights and maybe would have stopped all those Friday night defeats .
