LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

How did you determine they weren't trying?

They had chances to get it back to a 1 goal game in the 2nd. A costly turnover late in the 2nd on the power play that led to a SH goal for Tech to give them their 3rd 3 goal lead of the game.

Hopefully Lain's injury is not too serious. The Lakers can not afford to miss him for any extended period of time.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

It is sad but not unexpected, Ravn is not the first player, and certainly not the last, and this is the 8th year of more of the same, which you people up there will defend to fit your agenda.

It's funny, how you don't post after a win.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

This is just the first series, and one bad game, so let's not jump off buildings. There will be some growing pains with this young team, and if Lain misses time, then that's one more freshman in the lineup. Not being negative, but there were not huge expectations for this team this season, so let the young guys gain some experience and see where we're at a few more weeks into the season.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

They played a very good game with a thrilling third period on Thursday.

Let us not lose sight that Tech is a very good team. And they came out in the first period and played extremely well. Its not the end of the world. I think there are a lot of teams that are going to find Houghton a very-unwelcoming rink this winter, LSSU just happened to be the first. This has been coming with the Tech program for a year -- an increased emphasis on speed and attack. They were not successful on Thursday, but they were successful on Saturday.

For the Lakers, they will win and lose with defense and goaltending. If there are any cracks in the backline, they could be in for a long night. That was shown Saturday.

Now we hit the road for Bemidji.

We have one good home game, one stinker road-game. Its a long season, and its one loss.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

I think what they mean is there is a lot of excusing losses and inconsistant play on here. The Lake Superior State fan base are the easiest people to please in college hockey, as evidenced by the excuses on here and the defense of this coach.

I'm sure UAH fans are easier, they're just happy they have a team. They'd be really pleased if they have a conference.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Conway Twitty!

I woke up cryin' late at night - when I was very young
I had dreamed my father - had passed away and gone
My world revolved around him - I couldn't lie there anymore
So I made my way down the mirrowed hall and tapped upon his door.

And I said, "Daddy, I'm so afraid!
How would I go on, with you gone that way?
Don't wanna cry anymore
So may I stay with you?"

And he said,
"That's my job, that's what I do
Everything I do is because of you
To keep you safe with me ...
That's my job, you see."

Later we barely got along - this teenage boy and he
Most of the fights it seems - were over different dreams
We each held for me ...
He wanted knowledge and learning - I wanted to fly out west
"Said I could make it out there - if I just had the fare
I got half, will you loan me the rest?"

And I said, "Daddy, I'm so afraid
Theres no guarentee in the plans I've made
And if I should fail, who will pay my way back home?"

And he said,
"That's my job, that's what I do
Ev'rything I do is because of you
To keep you safe with me ...
That's my job, you see."

Every person carves his spot - and fills the hole with life
And I pray someday I might - light as bright as he.

Woke up early one bright fall day - read the tragic news
After all my travels, I settled down - within a mile or two
I make my livin' with words and rhymes - and all the tragedies
Should go into my head and out instead - as bits of poetry.

But I say, "Daddy I'm so afraid
How will I go on - with you gone this way
How can I come up - with a song to say, "I love you."

"That's my job, that's what I do
Ev'rything I do is because of you
To keep you safe with me ...
That's my job, you see."

"Ev'rything I do is because of you
To keep you safe with me."

Sigh . . . a song writing legend just to allow us to put away the sorrow of a bad Saturday night of college hockey for Ol' LSSU.

I am a poor little lamb, who has lost my way . . .
Baa! Baa! Baa!
I'm a little black sheep who has gone astray,
Baa--aa--aa!
I am a Gentlemen-ranker out on the spree,
****ed from here to Eternity,
God ha' mercy on such as me,
Baa! Baaa! Baaaa!

You, or your alter ego, talk about promises made to Ravn. Where were you when the promises were made? On the recruting trip? In the office with them? Did Ravn tell them about it himself? And when did all those teammates ask the coach to play him? I bet you were sitting right there in the coaches office when they came in, right? Which players did you hear ask the coach to play Ravn? C'mon Mr. Insider...do tell! How many times have you seen Ravn play or practice, so that you can give an honest evaluation of his ability to play goal at the Division I level?

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

I smell. Really. And that is the TRUTH!!!

The Truth Is Out There.... Conway Twitty, Rudyard Kipling . . . and because I love the Lakers, and the UP, and Canada, and pasties, and deer camp, and the Locks, and Hwy. 2, I provide all my fellow Laker fans with this -- the National Anthem of the State of Superior:

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called 'Gitche Gumee'
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty.
That good ship and crew was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early.

The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ship's bell rang
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?

The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too,
T'was the witch of November come stealin'.
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the Gales of November came slashin'.
When afternoon came it was freezin' rain
In the face of a hurricane west wind.

When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'.
Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya.
At Seven P.M. a main hatchway caved in, he said
Fellas, it's been good t'know ya
The captain wired in he had water comin' in
And the good ship and crew was in peril.
And later that night when his lights went outta sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her.
They might have split up or they might have capsized;
May have broke deep and took water.
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion.
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams;
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her,
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the Gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed,
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral.
The church bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call 'Gitche Gumee'.
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early!

Darn it, Truthy, you made me cry. I want to hoist the flag of Superior and salute its great majestic glory.

Go Lakers!

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

I was not able to listen to the game last night. What happen to Lain?

I am not really sure. I was watching on the Tech video feed, and don't remember anything significant happening, but Lain did not play in the 2nd or 3rd. Bill did not have much info on the injury during the postgame show, other then the fact that he did not play in the 2nd and 3rd.

I guess it was a groin injury; not sure how serious.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Any update on Lain? Was something said about it on the Laker Hockey Show last night?
He has a groin injury. I didn't get the impression that he will be playing this weekend, but that probably will depend upon serious it is, how fast it heals, and how he feels when he tries to do some skating. Hopefully he won't be out too long.
