LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Should be a great game tonight.....I'm looking forward to seeing how LSSU's video feed compares to Tech's.
Tech's starting one of the Freshman goalies, so it's hard to predict how he'll do.
If the game is low scoring, it will definitely benefit the Lakers.
The key will be keeping Tech's forwards from getting quality chances by preventing odd-man rushes, winning face-offs and back-checking well.
That's gonna be tough, as Tech essentially has three full lines of guys that can score.
Wish I could be there.

Don't get your hopes up. The video feed is very poor quality with no replays. It is basically a blurry visual aid to the radio broadcast.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

It sounds like Drapluk got the 4th goal, if so he has already fulfilled his goal quota that I had "given" him for my projection list lol. Nice win by the Lakers tonight, a 4 goal night was something I'm guessing many of us were not expecting hopefully we can keep it rolling Saturday!

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Lakers played a solid first period, but lost some momentum in the second after giving up MTU's first goal. KK really looked sharp and kept the game close while the Huskies piled up some shots. They did a good job of bouncing back in the third after giving up the second goal, and then putting them away. The freshman aren't noticably bad, but none of them really stand out, either, other than McKay for his size. No one on the Lakers really 'stands out' though, but they do work hard as a team. I really dig the Huskies jerseys, too, especially the patch of da UP on their left shoulder. Nice!!!

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Last night's victory over Michigan Tech was the Lakers first win against the Huskies at the Taffy Abel Arena since December 1998.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Big Game. Big win. Excellent third period.

Last year, the boys seemed to lose steam late in the games. This week, they really played their best hockey in the third.

Four goals is great.

They skated well. They moved the puck well.

1-0 . . . . lets go for two.

I hope Tech wins every game this season -- except the next game. Really want a 2-0 start.

Love the UP on the uniforms, Huskies!

Makes you wonder why Roque didn't play Ravn in the exhibition game for a period.

At the end of last season, I think Roque was hoping Ravn would leave LSSU. Now that Murdock is ineligible (assuming that is true), he probably is happy (or at least not unhappy) Ravn came back. By next season, Marble will also be here so there will be the issue of what to do with 4 goalies if Kapalka, Ravn and Murdock all come back. I don't think Roque wants to play Ravn but it would be better if he did so (maybe in a nonconference game) to give him a little more experience, or he might even be forced to do so if Kapalka gets hurt or sick. If Kapalka is having a really bad game and/or the Lakers are getting bombed in a game, he also might put Ravn in.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

What's the deal with Murdock? If he's ineligible, is it for part of the season or for the entire season? If Murdock is out for a while, the Lakers better hope Kapalka doesn't get injured or else we deal with a very inexperienced Ravn.

Ravn is inexperienced at the college level but I wouldn't necessarily doubt his talent....remember Ravn had better stats than KK their last year of juniors and when they came in together it at the time was a toss up as to who would be Brian Mahoney-Wilson's backup.....now we all know what has happened since then but with Roque seemingly going out of his way over the past few years not to give Ravn a chance I am more inclined to believe that Roque takes issue with Ravn on a more personal level as opposed to not liking his goaltending skills necessarily.....

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Unless injured, I think Kapalka will start all of the games this year, except possibly 1 of the non-conference games against Huntsville in mid November.

The Lakers can't repeat what they did last season with Kapalka winning almost all the Saturday night games but losing on Friday. Roque may have to rotate Ravn into the Friday night games and see if he can steal some wins if that trend developes again this season .

Knowing how Roque goes about personal acrimony (over the years), I don't expect him to give Ravn any ice time after devoting some much energy to freeze him out and convincing him that he would never play if he chose to stay.
Despite teammates regularly pressing him to play Ravn at times, the coach has refused even when there could be no harm :-/, even when knowing he might need him, as last week ... he seems to be stuck, so forget it !

It seems also that Murdock's ineligibility was quite predictable when he was recruited, so recognizing Roque's scouting flair and regulation expertise, it appears likely that there must have been something quite powerful for him to go out and get someone who was equivalent to what he already had on ice, with a high administrative risk attached (not questioning KM at all personally).
That he decided to find himself with three sophomores is probably only an evidence for not counting Ravn till the end.

Assuming Roque can't help giving Ravn a chance, because of injury or whatever, what is left of Ravn's game skills after two years active destruction. Will everybody jump to the conclusion that Roque was right during two years ? (beside the behind the scene behavior).
If Kapalka can't skip a Friday for fear of loosing momentum, what about someone who has been fighting uphill since arrival two years ago ? Anyway, will Roque give him a fair opportunity to prove him wrong ?
While the irony of the situation might amuse some of us (maybe not all of you), I am afraid it is too late for Ravn, which is sad. For Ravn of course, but also for the team and the values a coach is supposed to teach.

So is this going to be another season when the Lakers play well for one game of a series and poorly in the other? And it's not just a matter of winning or losing, it's the effort they put forth.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

There is a reason Lake State was picked so low in the preseason polls and I think you heard it or saw it tonight.

How did you determine they weren't trying?
