LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Exactly!! I can't stand "enthusiastic" homers who spew nothing but good vibes when the team stinking up the ice! Call it like it is and let the fans know what is happening on the ice!

Exactly. Just be truthful with your fans. Not every wrist shot that turns into a Laker goal needs to be described as a bullet that almost broke the Zamboni in half, and every setback doesn't need to be a 7-1 "heartbreaker". The people listening aren't stupid; don't treat them as such. The magpies with the Ken Harrelson mentality need to be beaten repeatedly with a shovel.

It's okay to be positive about the team, whenever it's prudent. If you don't, then it becomes awful tough to do your job. But be real with your fans.

Crawford is one of the best in the business and the best the lakers will ever get .

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Is anyone aware of the latest happenings concerning the Norris Center renovations? We're into April now and I haven't seen any activity in the area......should we be concerned???

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

I recall when we were in school, listening to Crawford while watching the RARE Laker game on TV (where have you gone Larry Osterman and PASS?). He was a HUGE pro-Laker homer in his earlier days. It was funny to hear his description of the play and see the actual play on TV. A "bone crushing hit" was merely a rub-out on the boards. It was pretty funny.

My belief is that Bill is older, and he has been forced to watch some BAAAAAAAAD hockey in the past 15 years.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Poor nothing. We played very well and just got beat by an awesome BC team.

I don't think he was saying Ferris played poorly; he's referring to that empty feeling of losing in the big game. We've been there, we know the feeling.

You are right Neil about the empty feeling. You are right Hammer, Ferris was awesome. BC's goalie stood on his head and were lucky.

BTW Truth Boy, Daniels>Anazlone.

I think Hammer's post was taken the wrong way. I believe he more or less was saying don't feel bad for Ferris, they played great and have nothing to hang their heads about. The game was close until the end and really could have gone either way up until that phenomenal 3rd goal by BC. When you're predicted to finish 9th in the league, you can't possibly walk away with an empty feeling with a loss to end the year in the national championship :)

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Lakers2glory...........I think that Mickey Redmond is a big whiner!!!! I got sick of him complaining for the whole game about the officiating. Granted, they missed some cals but the Wings got away with some stuff too. I Finally switched to the Philly vs. Pens game and saw a better brans of commentating (and hockey too).

I agree with the majority that Bill Crawford is a "gem" and unappreciated by the Laker Nation.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Pretty quiet on the recruiting front. The LOI Spring/Summer signing period is open, so hopefully the coaches will sign someone soon as a replacement for Trotman. That's the minimum. It's likely we'll see a second additional D-man, and possibly another forward also.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

I believe you are one of the only people on this Earth who doesn't like Mickey Redmond. He's in the NHL Hall of Fame as a broadcaster. And if I remember correctly, Mike Emerick (also a champ!) mentioned Mickey on the air during that game.

I'm not a fan either, he comes off senile and out of touch with the realities of modern hockey.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Laker2glory..........I like/respect Mickey as a player, but he's way to much a "homer" for my blood. He judges the officiating by how many penalties the Wings take versus their opponent. He has never considered that the stripes are clalling the game based on the rules and that it's "OK" for one team to have more than the other based on the way they see the game, not by evening out the penalties by the end of the game. It's like blacks being upset that more blacks than whites are in prison, saying that it's racial prejudice rather than considering that maybe more are committing crimes than whites. Now that I've ****ed you off, Paul Woods doesn't make the grade with me as the Wings radio color man. When I listen to him on the radio, I'm contiually out of breath as he is
the master of the runon sentence. BTW, you don't have to agree with me on any of this stuff. I respect your opinion as long as you respect me. Personally, I find Bill Crawford's style easy to listen to over time.

Bill, I think that keeping T.J. Wees on the blueline is probably their best bet with Trots leaving early. I think the chances of the Lakers signing a better D-man this late that could beat Wees out is unlikely. I watched him close on the Saturday game at Ferris and I think he did a fine job using his size in front of his own net and he didn't look like he was out of place. If he gets a chance i think he could develope into a solid force on the blueline.

How long is the spring signing period ?

I think the spring signing period pretty much stays open through the summer. Not sure specifically when it closes; I assume sometime before school starts back up. The fall signing period in early November only stays open for about a week to 10 days.

It's possible they have been keeping tabs on a D-man recruit with thoughts of bringing him in for the 2013-14 season, but now they may try and get him for the upcoming 2012-13 season instead since Trotman won't be back. True, it's usually tougher to find a good forward or D-man late in the normal recruiting season. Roque likes to have 8 D on the roster, so even if they leave Wees at D, they will probably try to sign 2 more D for next season.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Two quick notes.

Cast one big thumbs up for Bill Crawford. Best announcer we heard all year. We bought all the away games as well and there was not an announcer all year as good. Bill is a complete professional, knows all the names of both teams, and gives you his opinion of whats going on out there. He says when he thinks the Lakers are being out played, he says when they are dominating. He says when they are getting out played and are lucky to have a lead, and he says when the Lakers are outplaying opponent.

The Lakers had a big D man in on a visit this weekend.
