Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

Q is happy in ECAC, RPI maybe, Holy Cross is palatable, but just say no to Bentley. Does nothing for the HE brand except give Merrimack and Amherst a chance to win a few games.
and wack our strength of schedule

Restraint should be the word... RPI only if they have a dedicated plan to rule the Capital District.

I would tolerate any New England or quasi-New York school as long as they commit and not soft-commit... For instance, UConn. We can't have another school mealy-mouth commit to hockey.

Just noticed the home schedule is heavily weighted towards Fridays (9 Fridays, 5 Saturdays). boo to that.

Considering RPI's only D-I sport is ice hockey, you wouldn't have to worry about a soft-commit from them. ;) However, the thought has been toyed with about as long as the ivy league split (one of the reasons HEA was formed). If it hasn't happened in 30 years, it's probably not going to happen.

According to Jeff Cox, UML Director of Hockey Operations Sean Flanagan will be leaving to become an assistant coach at Cornell.
Jeff Cox ‏@JeffCoxSports
Cornell has hired St. Lawrence alum and UMass Lowell Hockey Ops Coordinator Sean Flanagan as its new assistant coach, replacing Topher Scott

Well, I meant it when I speak about the CD... Dominate the market. It's my opinion that RPI doesn't. Not first hand naturally... But things at present wouldn't be close and it's not because of winning and losing.

If HEA truly is supposed to the "SEC" of hockey... The top dogs... Then it needs to be patient and selective. Springing to the next big thing is a sign of weakness.

From Mike McMahon:

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN
Not sure on matchups, but told Frozen Fenway teams are BC, BU, PC, UMass, UConn, UNH, Northeastern and Maine. 4 games over 2 Saturday's.

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN
Non-participating schools are being asked to move games that weekend to leave Fenway games as only games on those 2 Saturdays (1/2)

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN
(2/2) but I was told by one coach that has been met with "much resistance." ... Home teams will have gates reimbursed per usual.

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

I also hope we're fighting to not change game time or date either

<-- cynic
I am beginning to realize that the definition of a purist when thinking about sport is the ability to make money not the sport itself. There is no such thing as a league or situation that doesn't have $$ involved. Even kid sport is driven by $$ not love of sport.

They are probably supposed to roll over and play dead for the 'good of the sport' (roughly translated- to make the most money even if it compromises the sport.)

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

I deleted the my previous post. The only game that will effect Lowell is the game scheduled for 1/14 at Amherst. That will probably get changed to 1/13 (both teams have open dates).
