Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

Got into a fun argument with a UMass fan last night, and then decided to do some research today.

* In 22 years, UMass has finished ahead of Lowell 5 times.
* UMass has finished dead last 5 times.
* UMass finished last or second to last 12 times in 22 years (including all the last four).
* Amherst has finished as high as 3rd, once. They have only finished above the midpoint of the league 2 times ever. 2.
* On average over 22 years, UMass has finished 8th in a 10 team league.

I imagine it had something to do with a misperception that the "flagship" dominates Lowell in hockey when the reality proves otherwise. I think some of their fans still live in the brief Jonathan Quick era and it clouds their judgement.

Well, If I were an Amherst fan I would want to live in the Jonathan QUick era too. Better than the current one.

Well that sounded like a fun one. Radio had issues in the first, cut away to Beatles for 20 min or so.

Concerned that Campbell wasn't out there tonight. Confused why Metcalf wasn't given time in net over Cleary or Hernberg. Other than that, the guys looked great.

Any news heard re Radio? So far no contract- Maybe they will see the light and go back to WUML where it belongs! Hoping and praying!

I thought it was a good skate and it was nice to see some of the freshmen get on the score sheet. I believe only Campbell, Marin and Metcalf did not play. Is Campbell still recovering from last season's injury? A few more shots by UPEI would have been nice. Not a lot of action for the UML goaltenders.

Looking forward to seeing how the team does against UMD. The Bulldogs come in at 2-0 as they swept Michigan Tech this weekend.

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

WUML never stopped broadcasting the games.
They stopped broadcasting Bob, who is a professional. The people they have broadcasting are erratically good or bad- If you don't care about the call being consistant then I guess it is OK.

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

Well I mean, being a student radio station, they are students.
Exactly. They are learning. It is to be expected. I am continuing to despair that the U doesn't think Hockey is important enough to get it on a station that won't put the game on delay or not cover it because some HS football game and who knows what else, cut out in the middle of OT, cut out the post game show (I am tired of typing.) More importantly it would be nice to have a radio station that has a coverage area that includes a few miles from the arena.

On the other hand- WCRAP coverage cured me of stopping everything to listen. After the first season on there I found I could live without listening after 25+ yrs of stopping the world to listen at all costs. Probably not the outcome they wanted but it sure freed up a lot of weekend nights during the season because streaming isn't an option for me.
