Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

6pm on a Friday night ... well that will suck.

Agreed. Difficult for many to get to 7:00 Friday game on time, let alone 6:00. Beer Works won't get much pregame business that night.

And the switch to 8:30 on that other home night is equally as bad. Then again, it makes up for lack of Beer Works time at that 6:00 game. :D

But these early and late starts really suck because of that stupid tv deal. Thanks Bertagna!

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

I assume those 6pm games are now those early tv games for whatever network it was last year that started putting out games. Switching a Saturday game to a Thursday stinks.

I'm assuming the Saturday to Thursday switch is due to bouncyball. They have a game against VA Tech at 4PM in Conte.

Now that NHL training camps are starting, there's a bunch of former Lowell players competing for NHL jobs:

Anaheim - Kevin Boyle
Boston - A.J. White
Carolina - Ron Hainsey
Minnesota - Christian Folin
New York Islanders - Ben Holmstrom
New York Rangers - Adam Chapie
Pittsburgh - Doug Carr, Barry Goers, Chad Ruhwedel, Scott Wilson
St. Louis - Carter Hutton
Winnipeg - Connor Hellebuyck

Lowell picked 4th by the Hockey East media.

@MikeMcMahonCHN
Joe Bertagna confirmed that Hockey East will go to a 24-game league schedule in 17-18 with Notre Dame leaving.

@MikeMcMahonCHN
Teams will play two games vs. each opponent with 4 games determined using an algorithm with the previous year standings.

@MikeMcMahonCHN
Those 4 games will be 2 home and 2 away. It will be the first time Hockey East uses an unbalanced schedule.

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

Got into a fun argument with a UMass fan last night, and then decided to do some research today.

* In 22 years, UMass has finished ahead of Lowell 5 times.
* UMass has finished dead last 5 times.
* UMass finished last or second to last 12 times in 22 years (including all the last four).
* Amherst has finished as high as 3rd, once. They have only finished above the midpoint of the league 2 times ever. 2.
* On average over 22 years, UMass has finished 8th in a 10 team league.
