Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

The writting is on the wall here guys....RIP LVC hockey. A sad day for the Ecac West and Division III college hockey altogether. Expect an announcement at seasons end that LVC is folding their hockey program.

This is what I am afraid of. I don't want to see any DIII schools drop their programs. Now the Flying Dutchmen of Hope College (mentioned above) would be a perfect addition to the MCHA.

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

Maybe the school just decided to drop hockey and told the coach not to go do any further recruiting right now, so the coach decided to leave to start finding his next career.
- OR -
Maybe the 1-65 record over the last 3 years was just too much to bear, and the school wants time to get a new coach found so he still has some time left to recruit this Spring.
- BUT -
Speaking of recruiting, that seems to have been their biggest problem. They don’t have the horses to compete in ECAC-W. They brought in 13 frosh this year yet only 4 play regularly, and only 2 are contributing statistics-wise…1 dman and 1 forward. You can’t rebuild your pgm let alone compete in that league by only bringing in 2 new contributors per year. You need to find 6-8 studs every year.

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

If this is indeed true.

This is a black day for D-III hockey.

LVC not only plays in the most historic rink in D-III (sans MAYBE Utica Aud) I'd argue the Hershey has more history and is a little bit cooler.

But LVC provided balance in the ECAC West as a travel partner with Neumann.

Now the ECAC West will be dropped to five teams and be two teams away from the mandated seven teams for an AQ.

Maybe this will be the start of the campaign for ECAC realignment?

Now i really want to find a way to get down to Hershey and watch possibly the last two games Elmira will ever play in the Hersheypark Arena.

If one team drops out, we would have 71 DIII teams. An 11 team NCAA field leaves us with an access ratio of 6.45, which is less than the statutory 6.5 - would the NCAA drop the tournament back to 10 teams if that happened? (Another way to look at it is that 6.5*11 = 71.5, which means that you have have 71.5 DIII teams for an 11 team field, and the NCCA tends to round, not truncate when doing those kind of calculations.)

But 6.45 rounds off to 6.5

Prez, how could you not mention Matthews Arena (aka Boston Arena), home of the surging Wentworth Leopards. Pre-historic. Where else do D3 athletes dress down in the boiler rooms?

Prez is also forgetting Sage Rink at Hamilton. Second oldest indoor rink (behind Matthews). Sage is also the worst place to watch a DIII hockey game. Terrible sightlines....

Hopefully LVC will figure things out and improve their program. It sure doesn't look to good at this point.

I forget about Matthews because I think of it as Northeastern's rink.

XCTiger, Sage Rink is cool in its own right for being so old but IMHO doesnt have the history of the Hersheypark Arena.

Sage isn't much to look at and the sightlines are awfull. Plus the seating has changed and been modernized.

Hersheypark Arena is straight out of the 1950's or 1960's.

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

If they get rid of the hockey program then the ECAC West has another 3 games to add on the non-conference schedule. Wow.

Or, they could play each other 4 times, instead of the current 3. That would make a 16 game schedule instead of the current 15.

Four games against Manhattanville, Hobart, Utica, and Neumann:eek: Yuck.

ROUGH conference schedule especially when the conference was as strong as it was the past two seasons (little down this year).

Stocked with drunken goons that harass visitor fans too:mad:

To watch a team slide off that much after a decent start in D3, it certainly seems possible they're going under. Its only been crapping out bad in the last 3 years or so though, no? Guess it depends on how much the school wants to keep it - Hershey is tradition and history, but if there are stronger athletic programs in LVC, and one was looking to cut corners...hockey is toast.

What I distinctly remember most about LVC when they played here last year was that our guys wore black (for the only time I can remember recently) since the Dutch packed white jerseys.

Those black jerseys were around for two years and then they auctioned them off at the end of the season. I have Selleck's

They didn't wear them often because they didn't have a very good record with them. I want to say they only won a handful of games with them on and lost or played poorly in them a majority of the time.

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

I hate to say it, but I don't think it looks good for the program. It's been all downhill since President Pollack left the school. He brought the hockey team to the school and the new president has never supported it. The alumni saved it a few years ago, but I think there's little they can do this year.

So sad, it had such a promising start just ten years ago. I was not on the team, but was a Frehman at the school for the second season. I always enjoyed going to the games and there was a lot of talent on those teams. They frequently competed with, and beat, many of the ECAC West teams. It's amazing how things can change in such a short period of time.

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

I don't think the team ever got much support from the administration. I think the coach sees the handwriting on the wall. You're right boys I think they are goners. Sad to see there are far fewer hockey programs both D 1 and D 3 already. I guess Lacrosse is cheaper, soccer etc. With times being tough they may not be alone.:( :(

Re: Lebanon Valley - Coaching Change

LVCAlum,

I was also a freshman that year and played for another team in the ECAC NE. One of the few that actually had a winning record against them during the four years I played. I always enjoyed playing them because they mostly played a clean brand of hockey and we had to elevate our game every time we played them. You gotta love Hershey Park Arena but how far is the school from the arena? I remember them beating some pretty good ECAC W and SUNYAC teams back in those days and always battling with Wentworth in the NE. Its a shame how far they have fallen and I'd be surprised if they were still around next year.
