Latest pairwise rankings

Holier than thou NCHC? Going by their 10 year history, they have won 5 national championships in the last 6 NCAA tournaments. They have earned the right to gloat about being the top conference. It has only taken the B1G 10 years since they blew up western college hockey conferences to become relevant in the national conversation.

Only problem is the zealots who support that conference were running their big mouths even prior to those 5 national championships within the past 6 years. Even during the 2013-2015 era when teams from the ECAC won three consecutive national championships all we ever heard was NCHC this and NCHC that, and they never passed up an opportunity to take potshots at the Big Ten. Well, don't cry about it now that the shoe is on the other foot. Maybe if those blowhards hadn't been so obnoxious for the last 10 years I wouldn't feel so obligated to force feed them the crow they've earned.

Growing up in the oWCHA footprint and going to Tech before WCHA 2.0 formed, I have been listening to the NoDok and to a lesser extent Denver fans run their mouths for decades. The rest of the NCHC will chirp every once in a while, but generally they have smaller, less rabid fanbases. (Ok, Miami fans have been crying how their "historic" program is a doormat and they aren't taken as the flagship program of the NCHC, so they publicly pout about it every chance they get.)

As far as the B1G, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan fans have a VERY high opinion of themselves and aren't afraid to let people know that.

If it is an East/West thing, everyone knows Western hockey is better. ;);)

Seems they were right. And a reminder that the NCHC was an unfortunate complication necessitated by the B10 action, so the so-called potshots were understandable. Come back when B10 wins a few consecutive championships and we can talk crow, or shoes on feet. The NCHC have teams who have excelled and over-delivered in playoff mode of late. The B10 have chokers.

Three? Yale, Union, and who is the third ECAC team to win a natty in that span?

Providence. Sorry, Hockey East, not ECAC. I guess I just had east coast on my brain. But the point remains that NCHC fans had the attitude that their conference was far and away the best during those years.

There was nothing necessary about it. That conference was formed as a knee-jerk reaction by a bunch of small-time schools getting their panties in a bunch over the fact that the Big Ten conference finally recognized hockey as an officially conference sanctioned sport. There was zero logical justification behind it. The rest of the WCHA minus Minnesota/Wisconsin should have remained intact, and the rest of the CCHA minus Michigan/MSU/OSU should have remained intact. The potshots were classless and uncalled for.

“NCHC still the king

As much as Big Ten hockey has improved in its decade of existence, it still hasn't crowned a national champion. The kingmaker has been the NCHC, whose members have won five of the eight NCAA tournaments played since 2014, with Denver and Minnesota Duluth grabbing two titles each and North Dakota one. Hockey East has two national titles in that span, and the ECAC has one.

The Big Ten's best showings are a pair of runner-up finishes: The Gophers fell 7-4 to Union in 2014, and Notre Dame lost 2-1 to Minnesota Duluth in 2018 in St. Paul.

Of the 32 Frozen Four spots since 2014, the NCHC leads with 13 appearances. Hockey East and the Big Ten are tied with seven each.”

Totally missing the point of the entire article if that one small anecdote at the end is all you take away from it. The fact of the matter is the people that have been badmouthing the Big Ten for the duration of the last 10 years are left with egg all over their faces now that the Big Ten has 3 of the top 5 teams in Pairwise and 4 of the top 8. I don't care how badly you want the conference to suck, sorry to inform you it does not suck. Therefore, you lose. End of story.

You are persistent and entertaining.

Was Willy saying that <he> authored the article Speedy linked? If so, all I can think of is Rodney hiring Kurt Vonnegut to write a paper on one of his own books. And Rodney's professor saying Kurt has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Speedy would be the professor here, of course. (Back to School)

I see. Your conference can realign. But the others didn't have permission. And on the "logical justification" point: there was an opportunity to create a very strong conference, and it was done. It doesn't seem like 10 years. But it probably feels like 20 to B10 fans.

So far I've counted egg on face, shoe on the other foot, and .. what was the other one .. I forgot. Anyway, if the MaizeNBlue arrogance is firing off because after a decade the B10 finally has good representation in the pairwise, imagine how bad it will get if one of them manages a nat Championship and the conference rises to 1 in a row. I can't wait for it not to happen.

And you can bet that if Mankato or Tech upset their way to a natty, el Speedo will be the first in line to crown the CCHA the best college hockey conference. It’ll be a line consisting of one person but he’ll be there.
