Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Woo-hooooooo ... feels so good to beat OSU ... and in such an exciting game!!! The boys looked good. SOG were 30-30 at the end. Beautiful shot by Schoefield with 20 seconds to go in the third. Awesome win!!!

How are the Freshmen performing so far ? Good win and so far announcers sounding good.

I didn't get to see Zach Trotman last weekend; he didn't play because of the flu. They recruited him because he's a big strong defenseman, and they expect him to play that way in front of the Lakers net in particular.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

LSSU won the small battles last night. They had a few really nice passes, and got a few breakaways. The last two goals were really nice shots, but they could have won this one by a couple more goals. They goal given up with :08 left in the second made this game closer than it should have been.

A few defensive lapses, but those can be cleaned up as the season goes. Great to see a win in the closing moments instead of a loss.

Hopefully I'll see more of the same tonight.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I had trouble getting a connection to the stream for the pre-game show this evening. I missed approximately the first half of it. If anyone heard that portion, what did I miss?

I did hear Jim Roque say that Kyle Haines separated his shoulder last night. That will be a big loss. I though Haines played very well last weekend against Canisius. I liked the way he jumped into the play in the offensive zone. Guess we'll see Hobbins back on D until Haines can play again, or perhaps Pobur (on occasion).

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I was at the Providence/Bowling Green game tonight. Was Inglis the starter and was he that bad as the score seems to indicate or did he have no help out front?

I was surprised as heck to see Pat in goal last night. He didn't look very solid and I do believe he had help out front. I hate to favor a goalie, but I wish Jim had stuck with Beamer from the get-go ... instead of putting him in in the third. But, I guess he had to let Pat see some of the action from this good Ohio State team. I think we could have won that game.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

The second or third goal Pat gave up was really bad. He also had bad rebound control as well and just didn't look confident. I hate to say it, but Inglis should be on the bench the rest of the year, except for some non conference games. Let's hope Mahoney-Wilson continues his great start.

Too bad for the loss. Bright side is the PP is still clicking and the offense has been consistent. Lakers have scored at least three goals in all six games.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Inglis just never became the talent they thought he had. The rotating goalie system has not worked for Roque and they need to pick their number one goalie and run with him.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

They can only go as far as their Beemer will take them. One other thing about last night it was real nice to see Roque let markell and sergott know what he thought of them. Jim if your listening you earned some RESPECT from me last night.

Yeah ... there was some shadiness surrounding those Laker penalties and the resulting pp goal for Ohio State. Jim spoke his mind!

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

From the broadcast, it sounded like the 3rd Buckeye goal was soft. They said a guy came from behind the net and put it in the short side, and that Inglis didn't have the post covered. It also sounded like the 2nd Lakers goal was soft, from a very sharp angle.

Key turning point in the game was late in the 1st period and the Lakers up 2-0. They took 4 penalties in a little over 3 minutes, including a double minor from Barczuk. Instead of coming out of the 1st period with a 2 goal lead, they allowed the Buckeyes to get within one goal plus gain some momentum. Barczuk is a high energy player, which is good, but he needs to play with more discipline. He racked up quite a few penalties last season, often in the offensive end.

Beyond that they gave up 41 shots on goal, which is too many, especially on home ice. And if you give up 4 goals in a game, most of the time you will not win.

If Haines is out for long, that will be tough on the Lakers. He has become a very good player. BMW has become the number one Lakers goalie. But they may play Inglis occasionally to give him some ice time and keep him from getting too rusty.

I agree with your observations regarding Barczuk as well. He does need to play with more discipline. He reminds me of Zac MacVoy a couple of years ago. Barczuk is always good for a couple of penalties and it's not always good for the Lakers in these tight scoring games. Hopefully the situation will improve.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Goalies have always been the backbone of Laker teams for the last 20 plus years and this year they may very well be the weak spot. If Wilson can play solid then this team may have a shot at home ice for the play-offs.

I have faith in BMW!
