Well players and coaches are dissapointed anytime they lose a game but they are realistic. Most fans would be, but most Miami fans are ignorant and uneducated about the game. Most couldn't even tell you where Lake superior St. even was.
However Miami was picked 4th in the conference this year. Shows you how meaningless preseason ranking truly are. Those of us that understand the dynamics of the game and have seen the lakers play believe that. Anyone who thinks this is a cake walk series is ignorant. This is a tough matchup for Miami, Coach Rouge always has his teams playing hard and they are more talented this year than years past which makes it tough. There is also something to be had for a team playing more desperate which Lake st. is. Also a hot goaltender can do wonders for a team and Miami has seen plenty of those this year. Case in point we tied western when Gill stood on his head and he almost did it last weekend in our 2-1 win. He faced over 90 shots and allowed only 6 goals.
Yea I watched the game on FSN Saturday, Gill singlehandedly kept Western in that game, exciting ending! The Lake Show will benefit greatly from any points we can muster out of this weekend, especially with Schofield out for Friday's game.
On another note I am happy to see Miami doing well, your USCHO fanbase at least has always struck me as a knowledgeable and pretty respectful group, best of luck this weekend!
.... it is very nice to see your program back towards the top and playing well. We have always had great convo's and felt the program has been snake bitten this decade.
Acton can play both games, but Schofield will have to sit Friday for his BS "excessive rough" DQ.
2 points separate 4-9. crazy. I almost would have rather had the Lakers get passed for 4th place, but put some separation between them and 9th place. Should be a great finish!
If they are still in a serious hunt for 4th place going into the last series, great, but for now I too would just like to see them continue to get enough points to lock up a home ice berth for the 1st round. A split at Miami would make me happy; even one or two points will help. The Ferris series could be huge since it will be their last chance to get points on home ice before finishing up with two road series. It definitely would be nice to have a little more distance from 9th place before the last series or two.

Yea I tell ya, put Gill on any other CCHA team ( besides BG ) and that team is instantly better. I feel lucky to have both Reichard and Knapp, but if I had to be honest I think Gill is the best tender in the league. He has just over a 2 GAA on one of the worst teams in the country. To me that is remarkable.
Thanks for the kind words, the guys on this site are great and knowledgeable. Its fun, even though there are a small number of Miami fans on this site regularly, but we have some great debates over there. There is another site called Miami hawk talk where there are a lot of clowns and ignorant hockey fans. But hey the support is always welcome, I guess. But like I said earlier, it is very nice to see your program back towards the top and playing well. We have always had great convo's and felt the program has been snake bitten this decade.
If the Lakers play against Miami the way they did the second game against ND, they will have a chance of getting some points this weekend. The Lakers played so-so against UNO a few weekends ago but managed to pull out two one goal wins. They played atrocious in the 1st game with ND, but then rallied the second night despite being very thin at forward due to 3 major penalties. They will still be without their leading scorer (Rick Schofield) for the Friday game this weekend. Keys for the Lakers are a good team effort, play smart, BMW has to play well in goal, and they need to score some goals, probably at least 2-3 (maybe more) each game to have a chance. If they play like they did against UNO or the 1st ND game, they will come up empty. Special teams play tends to be streaky by nature for all teams, but the Lakers are also in a PP scoring drought; it's been a month since they've scored a PP goal. Getting the PP going would help their chances this weekend.I now return to you to your regularly scheduled discussion of Laker hockey.
Speaking of which, should be a good series this weekend. I think it will be interesting to see if Miami can match the Lakers' intensity. After two weeks off, the Notre Dame BS (seriously, can Jeff Jackson cry a little more? - I know he's a legend in the Soo, but really?), the #1 team and the need for league points tell me you guys are going to come out fast. One thing I've noticed is that Rico is rotating a few guys in and out of the lineup to try to provide that spark of intensity necessary. BMW has been solid for you guys, but I wonder if you can get enough scoring should these games open up a bit?
I agree about Gill, but I wouldn't be so hard on the gang at www.miamihawktalk.com. It's rare to find a MAC school with a more active online following. They might not be the most educated hockey fans, but there are certainly a few who know the game and there are at least three of us on this board that contribute there regularly as well. That said, when you're a small school in SW Ohio, it's hard to tell someone they aren't a good enough fan.

The Lakers have to come out flying right from the opening face off. If they take control and dictate the pace of the game by taking it to Miami, they should do well. All points Bill made above are good ones, the D & goaltending has to be rock solid, and the Laker PP has got to score some goals because Miami will take a lot of penalties. They have to be quicker at moving the puck and make good, crisp, tape to tape passes.
The Lakers have got to get a guy in front of the net if they want to improve their chances of scoring some goals. A bunch of long blue line shots at an unobstructed goalie is not going to win many games for them.
I was just on the NCAA page voting for players in the skills competition and thought I'd check if they added any new Laker Hockey DVDs. It's been a long time since I've checked it. I was suprised to see that you can order a bunch of Laker Hockey DVDs including all 4 of their national championship finals games. In the past they only had one available but now you can buy all 3 of their Championship victories.
I just thought I'd throw that out there since we've discussed it on the board in years past.
Cool!! Once I get my tax money back, I'll probably order the '88, '92 and '94 DVDs. It would sure be fun to watch all those games again.
Maybe this will be your year. Getting in the tournament will be a shoo-in for you. Then you just have to stay hot for 4 games.I wish we could say the same for our '09 DVD.
Looks like the weather around Oxford and surrounding areas is nasty.
Must split series for the Lakers. Let's hope Ferris can sweep NMU, Michigan State can sweep Alaska, and Western can upset Notre Dame (not counting on that though, but WMU is due).
