Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

yup, nice call, Bill:

I'm assuming that a "scholorship" is almost exactly the same thing as a "scholarship." :D

So some folks have called Junior a "homer." Well, at least he doesn't go into visiting arenas and get into shouting matches with parents of the other team's players! Stay classy Notre Dame announcer guy! I'm sure I don't have the whole story, but that is one of those things where you are ALWAYS wrong if you are the one representing a school and holding a microphone.

LOL, I talked to the lady that allegedly was yelling at the ND announcer, and she swore up and down that she never swore at him. Either way, I'm glad this weekend is over. Too much drama, between the crap refs and the announcer thing (which I almost forgot all about), I'm just ready to move on to this weekend. So who's going to the Eagles game on Friday?

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

And as far as the shouting match i was wondering what was going on over there when security was called to the press box.

Yeah me too. Wow, that's a pretty moronic thing to do.

It sucks having three out of the last four road series on the road. I guess it makes up for all those home series at the start though.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Co-captain Rick Schofield, who was given a game disqualification 11 seconds into Saturday's game, will be suspended for the first game against Miami, but Dan Barczuk, who was given a game misconduct in the first period Saturday, will not be suspended.

Roque said he discussed the situation with CCHA Director of Officials Steve Piotrowski.

"A lot of it doesn't make sense to me," Roque said. "To be told that we trust (referee) Kevin Hall's opinion ... to give Rick the DQ, but I said why don't you trust Kevin Hall's opinion on Friday," when Will Acton was given a one-game suspension after the league reviewed his five-minute charging penalty, "and he didn't think Will's penalty deserved a DQ. There's too many inconsistencies, and that's the frustrating part. Unfortunately I'm not going to win that battle.

"They have their opinion on it and that's the way it goes."

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

First of all with VanWaggons or "Junior" he is a homer there is no doubt about that and if the shoe fits, wear it. He seems to be an askclown behind the mic that tries to be a comedian and cheerleader at the same time. The act is wearing old and I have given up listening to the games online because of it.

I don't know about the Notre Dame announcer and what was said. I wasn't able to listen to the broadcast but if he was into "shouting matches with parents of the other team's players" I am sure something would have been said or reported. I think it is you people up there wanting to believe something and just making things up. It is a pretty common characteristic to your area. Don't miss it one bit!

The Truth Is Out There...

Actually I was at the game and sitting not too far from the press box. The ND announcer, assuming that's who he was, started yelling at a couple of Lakers fans, in particular a couple of women. I couldn't hear what all he said, but part of it was that "someone could get sued". What triggered his outburst, I can't say. The women were facing away from me and I think yelling at the refs just prior to the announcer's outburst. I was a couple of rows behind them and several seats to their left. I can assure you, the guy in the press did start yelling at these women.

That's pretty much exactly how the lady that was getting yelled at told the story to me bill. Either way, can't we just start looking forward to miami?

I agree!

If the Lakers can get a split against Miami, I'll be estatic. If we sweep, then our chances of a first round bye increases quite a bit. Unfortunately splits the rest of the way aren't going to cut it to have a 1st round bye. If we get swept by both Miami and Ferris, then we should worry a little bit just for home ice for the first round alone. That's how tight it is in the standings. Lakers can finish anywhere from 4th-10th. Such a shame we squandered all those points against lowly Western back in early November.

I wish I could go down to Miami next weekend to see our Lakers play but not surprisingly there's no tickets availabe. I keep hearing how nice the Steve Cady Arena is.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Watching the UNO vs. Notre Dame and now I am convinced the CCHA refs are incompetent on so many levels. A UNO player was just tripped from behind by Ryan Deeth(theatrical diver) and Olimb goes to the box for tripping. Olimb had no body contact with either player. Dean Blais was shaking his head and probably thinking thank goodness I'm going to be coaching in the WCHA next year.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Nice hockey night for an off-weekend. I've had three games on TV. UM-MSU, DU-UND, and UNO-ND.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

We will be still in 4th place heading into tomorrow. Ferris State really did not help us with them losing into Ohio State. Ferris is kind of sputtering a little bit lately. I wonder if they benefited from a weak schedule or are they just in a typical rough patch most teams go through? Still, it'll be a tough series and I'm glad they are not in our cluster this year.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

With a lot of help, the Lakers may come out of this weekend holding onto 4th place.

IF:

-NMU can beat Alaska in regulation (NMU could have really helped us if they wouldn't have blown that 3rd period lead..With Stewart in net and a lot of talent, I would say that NMU would be far and away the leading candidate for the most underachieving CCHA team, but thankfully for the Wildcats, ND and UM have also undefperformed)

-ND can beat UNO in a shootout and

- Ohio State doesn't win in regulation
then the Lakers will be alone in 4th heading into next weekend series in Oxford. The team that is really flying under the radar is the Buckeyes..Alaska, UNO and ND all will have a bye week coming up but the Buckeyes do not. OSU also has a pretty soft schedule coming up, UNO and WMU will really need to step up and get all the points they can from the Buckeyes or else, OSU may be sitting pretty when it's all said and done.

As an aside, i would just like to mention that races like these (6 teams including some of the biggest schools in the country (UM and ND, OSU) and one of the smallest (Your LSSU) all within 4 points of each other with the season coming down the home stretch) in which every game, period, goal could totally change the fortunes of tons of schools across the country is what makes college hockey one of, if not the purest and most exciting sports in America. You have to love this time of year!!

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Lakers are still in fourth place after this weekend. Notre Dame has the same amount of points as us, but we have more wins and have played two less games.

Only FOUR points separate 4th-10th. CRAZY TIGHT!! Wow, I think a split at Miami might be required. If not, then we might have to sweep Ferris. Not getting more points at lowly Western might really bite us in the butt.

Anyone making the trip down this weekend? Big series for the lakers with the log jam from 4th-9th Lake st needs these points bad. However if Miami sweeps lake st they clinch the regular season title, so big for them as well. Acton can play both games this weekend right?

LSSU gets a block of tickets have you checked with their Athletic department? If not check ebay or stub hub. Miami also sells standing room only tickets where you can move down after the first 5 min to fill in empty seats and there are some. Season ticket holders aren't the best at coming to every game.

Acton can play both games, but Schofield will have to sit Friday for his BS "excessive rough" DQ.

2 points separate 4-9. crazy. I almost would have rather had the Lakers get passed for 4th place, but put some separation between them and 9th place. Should be a great finish!

Yea Miami can clinch regular season title but is a long shot. Ferris would need to get swept and MSU lose a game. Some really big matchups this weekend, I am afraid of this series because you guys theoretically "need" this series more than us and will be playing desperate. I expect two extremely close hard fought games, I am hoping for a split lol. I know that seems weird saying since we haven't lost a conference game in regulation but this series scares the hell out of me.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

The Lakers need to get the screen in front of the Miami goalies. No screen and scoring goals will become very tough.

With a home series against the team picked to finished 2nd to last in the conference, I'm sure most Miami coaches, players, and fans will be disappointed with anything less than a sweep.

Well players and coaches are dissapointed anytime they lose a game but they are realistic. Most fans would be, but most Miami fans are ignorant and uneducated about the game. Most couldn't even tell you where Lake superior St. even was.

However Miami was picked 4th in the conference this year  . Shows you how meaningless preseason ranking truly are. Those of us that understand the dynamics of the game and have seen the lakers play believe that. Anyone who thinks this is a cake walk series is ignorant. This is a tough matchup for Miami, Coach Rouge always has his teams playing hard and they are more talented this year than years past which makes it tough. There is also something to be had for a team playing more desperate which Lake st. is. Also a hot goaltender can do wonders for a team and Miami has seen plenty of those this year. Case in point we tied western when Gill stood on his head and he almost did it last weekend in our 2-1 win. He faced over 90 shots and allowed only 6 goals.
