  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

Its a shame

Oh now that would be awesome!:p

I'm 100% confident the site and The Board have access to your IP. IIRC a former admin admitted as much.

which isn't surprising and it's not very useful. An IP address isn't like a phone number or even an address. It's generally not personally identifiable unless you have a reason to have a publicly available static IP address reserved. Which I'm confident none of us do.

However, like a phone number, it's necessary to provide it to the other end of the line when you call. The same thing happens when you access a website. You identify yourself, ask for an exchange of information, the server acknowledges your request, and then either provides the information or rejects it. Either way, your IP is almost certainly logged by the site you are contacting.

Well of course they do (its how you perma block someone) I just think it would be awesome if they found me so annoying they throttled the site for me. I mean it would be pathetic and childish, but I would applaud their ingenuity

Just saw on the Announcements Forum from board that they did an "unplanned server upgrade" today. That post was within the last hour. Still see a little slowness here and there it seems like but not terrible for me.

May have been unplanned, but the pages seem a lot faster for me. Quite a bit faster than the last few years.

We didn't like a guy choice of music he was streaming at the office back in the day. So we filtered only the streaming portion of the website he was hitting.

Site still loaded, but no 80's rock. Took him weeks because he didn't want to ask for help. :)

So yes the pettiness to block just for you is possible....

The issue I can’t figure out is when a thread updates in the queue when there’s a new post, but the last post link and last post detail stay the same. Most of the threads on the front page still show their last post from yesterday and some of the links are multiple pages behind. Never seen that on other boards.

This happens all the time for me. At first I thought it happened when someone I blocked posts, and it messes up the tracker. But considering I only have like three posters blocked, and none of them participate in the D3 forums, I ruled that out.

Pretty sure that is due to the outdated vBulletin software that USCHO uses. The v5 base version used here was first released back in 2012, so I'm guessing it's likely EOL and no longer supported. v6 dropped last year to a "meh" response from the message board software community, who have long since moved on to XenForo and other, better platforms.

I always assumed it was blocking

there is a scenario that someone deletes a post and that screws up the loading.
