  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

Its a shame

Here we go again. The D1 forum has been infested with bot threads. I know it’s been slowly happening over the past few weeks but it seems like these idiots know it’s a long holiday weekend.

USCHO almost done at this point. Server busy happens just about every time I get on now

There’s a post on the announcements board that said they’re hiring an additional mod, changing the registration process, and looking to upgrade to a different board with better spam fighting. I don’t know how long that process takes but I would welcome it even without the server overload and spam. The functionality of this version was never very good.

It’s not a quick process to migrate to a new board. Databases do not always (seldom, in fact) sync 1:1, so you need to spend time deciding what’s needed, what’s nice to have, what data should be lost, and what data would be nice but doesn’t migrate well. And then you have to map database tables and fields for the info you do need to keep, possibly converting field settings for length or data type. At the high level, it sounds like a bing-bang-boom process to those not familiar, but it’s just not simple.

My immediate response to the words "legacy data migration" is basically, "Please tell me sales explicitly excluded that from scope in the SOW, right?"

Something has changed because this place has never been quite so bad. I always assume it is (1) commerce (2) intentional (3) some POS owner.

If you are said owner come over to my place and let's discuss.

Tech runs on dollars but dollars are fungible. We can always replace the people who temporarily control capital. They are unimportant and in fact typically they are below replacement level for someone picked at random from /users.

I’ve had to login with each visit to this site today even though I’ve not clicked to logged out, and the site stays open in a tab.
