Its a shame

My grandson started high school this year and one of his classes is basic computer science. He got a 94 on his midterm, has done coding ,and has designed a website. I'm sure he'd be glad to pitch in and lend a hand.

I think moderation is getting a bad rap here. The issues seem more on the networking/server side.
Yeah, board just posted on the D1 side that they got hit by a site crawler. Someone on the Women's section reported Chinese text.

Today is the first chance I’ve had to get back online. I received the email for my password being 180 days old, so I attempted to follow the normal process only to have the system conk out and my browser updated its saved password for the site. I finally figured out a procedure to get the password reset process to work - vbulletin uses an unusual bit of logic here.

I didn't find out about the issue until last night. Had I known, I probably could have tracked it down sooner. The crawler bot that hit us made over 700,000 requests yesterday, all of them to vBulletin's search URL.

Not sure about lazy or cheap. The site has about enough net income to pay its small staff a stipend and to cover travel expenses. It's a side gig for every one.

I think it's a great site Ed, with or without the message board, and I personally am grateful for its existence.

I've had... ahem... "issues" with various anonymous mods in the past here. But I can't honestly complain at all here in 2024. I truly wish there was a "report" function, as I'm a bit nervous that if some porn bot comes in or more blatant spam bots come in, that there's no easy way to contact someone.

Otherwise, considering what the budget most likely is, I think those folks running the place are doing yeoman's work.

While I'm not disagreeing with you Swansong, it would be be cool if maybe during a time like this when they were dealing with that issue they could either put a message here or even on their Twitter account that said "we know there's an issue and are working on it!" Something like that would go a long way in my opinion to people not thinking this site is on its last leg.

The best place to report if it seems to be a technical issue is Report a Problem on the top of the main site. The moderators and admins are not the ones who address server issues.

don’t know what is up with Twitter links. I do know we had to disallow image uploads because we were going to be banned from Google Ads over violations.

The only issue with doing that is that when there was a real problem, the page had no links- so one could not even report a problem (unless I missed a link).

For sure, I will pay attention to finding that if I get the "busy server" screen.

It's on the main USCHO.com site at the top. Or a direct link: https://www.uscho.com/ncaa/report-a-site-problem/

That submits a support ticket to our Zoho Desk account.
