Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

Miami will probably split time in net between Connor Knapp (2.03, .909) and Cody Reichard (2.05, .911). They average 3.82 GF/game while giving up 2.16 GA.

Rico went with Cody in both games against Michigan and at the Joe, unless we get past UNH with a weak performance from Cody I would expect him to be our goalie from here on out. It will definitely be Reichard in net on Saturday, and for the moment not worrying about anything beyond that :).

I know, but I have always figured Reichard was in net for stronger opponents (no offense toward Knapp or UNH). Hence his time in net for both games in Detroit (although ND was anything but strong).

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

ND will go with Mike Johnson (assuming he's healthy). He's got a GA of 2.62 and a save % of .903. ND averages 3.46 GF while giving up 2.76 GA.

Personally, I am not a Mike Johnson fan and I never have been. I know Summerhays is just a freshman, but he would be my pick. But, that's why JJ gets paid the big bucks.

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

I like ND in this game. Especially if the team is anywhere near as confident as their fans! They expect tournament domination.

At the Joe, they played like they knew they were in the tournament. I have no doubt that Jackson will have your boys ready to go. I've seen Merrimack's goalie play and he is very good on the initial shot but he dishes out some sweet rebounds. With TJ's quick stick and good instinct, I think he could have a big night!

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

Merrimack is 25-9-4 for a winning % of .711 to lead the 4 teams here. Their freshmen are led by Mike Collins with 10 points. Their leading sophomore scorer is Stephane DaCosta with 44. Junior Ryan Flanigan has 32 and senior Chris Barton has 39. Barton is a question mark as he has missed the last few games with an injury. MC also has 15 upperclassmen. They have 2 draft picks, 15 players in double digits and 10 players with at least one PPG, led by Joe Cucci who has 10 of those.

MC's Joe Cannata will be in net. He's got a GA of 2.44 and a save % of .911. They average 3.68 GF and give up 2.45 GA.

Great post, but an update for you...our leading freshman, Mike collins, doesn't have 10 points on the season, he has 30...14 Goals and 16 assists...the rest were correct. As for Barton, in a radio interview on Saturday night, he mentinoed he has every intention of playing this weekend but is listed as day to day still, so we'll have to wait and see. Should be a great time in Manchester...GO MACK :)

P.S. - If I were ND and have watched some tape of MC, I'd worry about the Flannigan-Sheen-Madsen line...in 4 playoff games this year, they have combined for 12 goals, 11 assists, 23 points, and a +24 rating!!! And that is our 3rd line!!!!! CRAZY PLAYOFF RUN FOR THAT TRIO.

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

For those with DirecTv, channel 630 will show the ND-MC game live.

Oops. I need to proofread more closely.

Anybody know if there is going to be a pep rally, send off for the team, or has the sports marketing dept. dropped the ball again?

If you want to talk about impressive third lines, how about ND's? Tynan and Lee have combined for 93 points. I don't know that they have any particular four-game run that's as good as the MC trio, though.

Nothing. Yet. They should fly out tomorrow, although I don't know if they will bus to Chicago, or fly from SB, so if anything gets planned, they better plan quickly.

Psst, WeAreNDHockey, what about their flight itinerary?

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

Thinking about this weekend I realized that ND's current roster has only 5 players dressed (five!) who had ever been on ice such as JLA before while going this deep in the playoffs. Each time ND has had a perfect weekend in Detroit, they have gacked it up in the regionals. When they laid 2 eggs in Motown, they played for the NC.
For a team that went to the NCAA tournament only two years ago, it is astounding that there are only five players on this team with tournament experience. This quintet has only two goals between them, but I'd say they were two really important ones!

Name GP G A PTS
Calle Ridderwall 5 2 0 2
Ben Ryan 5 0 2 2
Ryan Guentzel 4 0 1 1
Billy Maday 1 0 0 0
Sean Lorenz 1 0 0 0

For all the talk about how experienced teams are better off in March and April, let's remember how an experienced Notre Dame team fared in 2009 at Grand Rapids. Let's also remember Calle Ridderwall had only two career goals coming into the 2008 national semi-final, but by the time the night was over, he had doubled his total.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall organized rallies prior to departing for any of the regionals they've competed in. I do know they held one prior to leaving for Denver and the 2008 FF.

Agreed! ND/Miami carpool? LOL. And then if we cheered for each other... we would almost be heard in the arena!!! Seriously though, If I had to guess I'd say Notre Dame has a fairly large east coast presence, correct?

Well, being from the east coast I would have to say that your guess would be wrong. I agree with IrishHockeyFan. Notre Dame brings out the alums (actual and otherwise) for football and basketball, but not so much for hockey. Last time I saw the Irish was against Boston University at the Agganis. Irish fans were few in number that night. Those that attended that game made their presence known, but I would be hard-pressed to believe that there will be a significant "Irish" presence in the Queen City (that is the official nickname of Manchester, NH for all you flatlanders out there). While UNH will invariably bring in their crowd, the school that will surprise you all is Merrimack! Merrimack fans packed the TD Garden for the Hockey East championship and I expect more of the same next weekend in Manch-Vegas (which is the unofficial nickname of Manchester, NH for all you flatlanders out there).

...and I am not sayin' Merrimack is going to beat Notre Dame, but they are **** good so Notre Dame best bring its "A" game.

In all fairness, the last time Notre Dame played at BU, it was a Tuesday game. Few parents or family were going to make a mid-week trip. While I assume our crowd will be much smaller than it was for regionals in Grand Rapids, there will be a noticable presence. Notre Dame alum clubs organize support pretty well, and I'd be surprised if they completely dropped the ball for this regional. They made sure to rally troops for all 4 games played in Colorado in 2008.

On the TV front, I believe Comcast is televising the game locally on one of their access channels for you folks in SOuth Bend, and a couple of other regional sports networks are picking it up as well.

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

I think the main issue with attendence will be lack of awareness. Excluding a few die-hard fans, who even knows Notre Dame will be playing in New England this weekend? I haven't heard a peep from the Notre Dame Club of Boston or New Hampshire. When the basketball team came to Providence in February it was well supported with local alumni who were unable to attend games in South Bend. I think the university is really dropping the ball on this one. Hopefully, they'll prove me wrong on Saturday.

I'll be there and I'll be loud.

This is true (and if memory serves Notre Dame beat BU that evening). I also concur with you that Notre Dame alumni organizations do an excellent job of "rallying the troops" so I am hoping for a large and boisterous crowd for both games on Saturday! Let us please not see a repeat of 2009 when Ohio State came to Manchester with few fans and a lackluster performance against Boston University.

Few fun facts about Manchester, NH. The river that runs through the city is named MERRIMACK. A town just south of Manchester, NH is named MERRIMACK. The county just north of Manchester is called MERRIMACK. MERRIMACK Street runs two blocks north of the Verizon Wireless Center. It's Merrimack, Merrimack, Merrimack everywhere you look!

However, Manchester, NH had at one time one of the largest French speaking populations in the United States and most of the signs that welcome visitors to New Hampshire contain the word "Bienvenue" (welcome in French). So, maybe the lingering French/Quebec influences found in Manchester will make the boys from "Notre Dame du Lac" feel somewhat at home (or not).

Okay for all you truly geeky folks out there. I have shows in LaCrosse, WI on Friday and Saturday nights. Can someone tell me if there is any way to "watch" the game on my Iphone, and I don't mean tracking the score through ND Nation or USCHO or anything. I mean something like a live stream.

JJFP............What sports channel is 630 on Direct TV?

ComCast Sports Net-New England. Boston version of what shows White Sox, Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawk games around here and in Chicago.

ESPN 3 (or whatever it's called). But what I know about your phone, you'll be waiting til the game is on tape delay on ESPNU later that night before it loads up!

In other words, CSNE. And don't confuse it with NESN (New England Sports Network).

It is also on MASN. How's that for an alphabet soup of regional sports channels?!

I'm having a small gathering to cheer the Irish on in front of my t.v. If anyone is desperate, you are free to join us. BYOB.
