Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

Well I got a lot of respect for LSSU after this series, but the bottom line is that after a long fought battle and a solid game tonight (expect for those two hiccups) is that we are going to Detroit. So who is gonna be up there to see our Irish battle once again against Miami, a team we know we can beat but who never proves to be easy

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

S. E. N. I. O. R. S.

Ben Ryan with the face off wins and going hard to the corners to fight for the puck. Ryan Guentzel and Calle Ridderwall with the assists to Joe Lavin's GWG. All is right with the Irish world.

Special mention also goes to Bryan Rust with one of the prettiest goals I've seen this season and Stephen Johns for being tough as nails.

Got the room at the RenCen. Now on to the tix for the games. Anyone else who is going and would like to get a group lunch organized Saturday, let me know. I've got a small group started, but would love to invade some place with lots of fans in blue and gold.

Ain't no party like a Detroit party...

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

While it's theoretically possible for ND to miss the NCAA tournament, it would require a highly improbable confluence of events, to wit:
* WMU wins the CCHA and ND loses the consolation game
* Bemidji wins the WCHA, and CC loses to UAA in their play-in—if CC wins OR if UAA wins the title, RPI is behind the Irish
* Northeastern wins Hockey East and someone other than Yale wins the ECAC

I don't think the last line is all that unlikely—NU has been a different team since early January and crazy stuff always seems to happen in the ECAC—but I'd be very, very surprised if both the CCHA and WCHA scenarios came to pass.

I'm ignoring Dr. Craig's last post... ;)

If you want to get tickets for this weekend, I (strangely enough ) recommend calling ND's ticket office (631-7356) as JLA outsources and those people have no seating chart for team sections and only have upper level tix to sell. Calling JLA directly is a crap shoot as you have to leave a message with someone who apparently never comes back to his desk.

JJfP, do you know how much they usually charge for the team section tickets? I have been searching ebay and stubhub for some cheap deals and while there are plenty to be had I would love to sit with the Notre Dame contingent.

SJ, I think JJfP is teaching right now, so I will answer, since she got my ticket for me. Tickets were $25 for each day and $9 total in fees. As noted, she got them through Notre Dame. After our last run in with drunk U of M fans, we prefer to sit in sections with friendly faces, so I for one am glad that the JLA folks don't believe in returning phone calls.

Another possibility is a call to Jackson's office and Sue H. (as we all know, the real brains behind the scenes at Notre Dame hockey) may have the location of the ND fan block sections. That way you'd at least know if a ticket from the secondary market is in or near the ND contingent. I'm not sure yet where they are and most of those going who are sitting in the stands won't know which sections are the ND ones until they see their tix at will-call. Tickets for these games are pretty cheap even with the fees Notre Dame (or ticketmaster) is tacking on -- and I understand cheap is a term relative to each of our situations -- so you may be just as well served to buy them through Notre Dame. If you're the gambling type, you may also want to wait until you get to Detroit anyway, as I doubt the games will sell out. Upper bowl tickets are pretty cheap, 10 and 15 dollars a day I believe, and purchasing at the JLA box office means you would avoid the fees. And you can get tickets in or behind the ones ND is selling that way also. In the previous three seasons Notre Dame has advanced to JLA I believe the ND fans were blocked in and around sections 103-106, but don't quote me on that.

I'm home now. TFM gave the pertinent info. Going thru ND guarantees friendly faces sitting around you. You can get either lower level or upper level tickets from them. Ours are lower level. They will be ready to pick up from the Purcell ticket office Wednesday. You can call JLA (I also have that phone # if you need it) , but most likely will have to wait for a return call (it took them 4 hours to return my call, and by then I had given up and tried ND's ticket office). You can also go thru JLA's online ticket brokers for cheap tickets in the upper level (I saw some as cheap as $5); however, they have no seating charts and hence, no idea what section is ND's. You can also try at the JLA gate on game day. This saves you the fees and they will have the seating chart. I am leery about that route because the last thing I want is to drive 4 hours only to find this is the one time the place is sold out (a distinct possibility given that UM is there).

IHF: I (maybe wrongly) remember our tickets being around section 118...

Age plays tricks on my memory sometimes, but I seem to recall seeing the main ND contingent opposite the player benches on the side they defended when they were the top seed in 2007 and 2009. It may have been opposite of that in 2008? How they dole out tickets to each school may be seeding-related as well.

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

Alright all this info is/has been very helpful. On ebay I was looking at some tickets which were 8 rows behind the Home Team bench but I have the painful feeling that if I were to get those I would be the only White Blue and Gold sitting in a sea of Blue and Yellow. Me and my dad were wanting to take my brother and sister but the problem is we are trying to stay under or right around $200 for the weekend as far as tickets go and if the prices were right as far as how much the tickets bought from ND cost it would be quite a bit over that. Decisions decisions I guess.

Tickets from Notre Dame I believe are just a little over 200 for the 4 of you for both games and I believe those are lower arena seats. Tickets in the upper bowl from JLA directly (or more accurately, Ticketmaster) would run even less than that, $134 (corners and behind the nets) to $174 (along the sides) for 4 tickets to both days, including all fees. The tickets are the cheap part of the equation for the CCHA finals. The hotels and parking are where it can get expensive. Downtown hotels are steep, but you can do everything you need without having to drive around. The People Mover goes to all the right places, and you don't have to pay to park at JLA that way. Hope you find your way there because Notre Dame will need all their supporters in place.

I don't think I'm older than you, but age is affecting my memory more than yours. I just looked at one of my ticket stubs and it was section 105. Sometimes I'm surprised that I remember my address...

IHF, are you going this weekend? Your posts sound vaguely as if you are not... My group for lunch is growing by leaps and bounds and you are welcome to join us if you go.

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

I can't believe how excited I am to be going to Detroit. Like the ad says, it's not the Windy City, Sin City or even the Emerald City, but it is the city my team will be playing in this weekend.

First up is Miami. They are led by senior Hobey Miele, er um, Andy Miele with 65 points on the strength of 21 G and 44 A. He's their top set up guy. Reilly Smith is their top goal scorer with 26. Carter Camper is the man on the man-up situation with 8 PPG's. Miami has 13 players with at least 10 points. Cody Reichard and Connor Knapp have virtually split time in net, but Reichard has a few more nods in net. Reichard (.911, 2.06) should start Friday with Knapp (.909, 2.03) possibly going Saturday.

ND is led by freshman T.J. Tynan with 49 points; however, Anders Lee leads the team in goals with 22 and Ryan Guentzel leads in assists with 30. Lee and Jeff Costello lead the team on the PP with 6 PPG's each. ND has 17 players in double digits. Mike Johnson (.907, 2.48) will start both games.

WMU is led by senior Max Campbell with 35 points. He is also their top goal scorer with 18 G's. Greg Squires leads in assists with 18. Matt Tennyson and Campbell lead their team in PPG's with 6 each. They have 14 players in double digits. Jerry Kuhn (.912, 2.34) has been their netminder of note.

Michigan is led by senior Carl Hagelin who has 47 points. He also leads the team in goals (17), assists (30) and PPG's (7). Michigan has 17 players with 10 or more points. Shawn Hunwick (.923, 2.20) will be in net.

Miami leads the pack in special teams. They are 24% on the PP and 89% on the PK. ND is 16.3% on the PP and 82.7% on the PK. WMU's PP is 16% effective and their PK works 79.9% of the time. Michigan's PP sits at 17.8% while their PK is at 83.3%.

Miami averages 3.72 GF and gives up 2.17 GA. They are 14-6-4 when scoring first. ND scores 3.54 and gives up 2.64. They are 20-2-3 when lighting the lamp first. WMU averages 2.74 while giving up 2.41 and Michigan registers 3.45 GF while surrendering 2.24. WMU is 15-4-3 when they score first while Michigan goes 20-1-3 if they score the first goal of a game.

Miami and ND are the only teams of the 4 who had winning records against the others this season. Miami went 5-2-3-1 this season against the other 3. ND went 4-3-3-2 while WMU has a record of 2-6-2-1 and Michigan, playing the others only one series each, went 3-3.

It's nice to know that even if ND doesn't do well this weekend, only a perfect storm keeps ND out of the regionals next weekend, so that should make for a more relaxed weekend. But I sure would like a couple wins anyway.

I'm still amazed at how impressed I am with this team. Half of them were not in Irish sweaters a mere 15 months ago. They weren't supposed to be this talented. They weren't expected to finish 2nd. They had an untested and new-to-the-program captain. They had so many freshmen. T.S. Eliot said, "Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go."

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

I just got off the phone with Sue at the Hockey Office and she told me that most of the Notre Dame tickets (at least the Coaches and Staff ticket block) are located in sections 123, 124, and 125, which is just down from the "home" team benches. The ticket office itself only had upper level Gen Adm left so let the ticket searching begin. I hope to see some of you guys up there although I don't believe expect for one or two on this board that we have ever met in person

Let us know your seat location and we'll let you know ours, that way you can look for a seat and meet the poster in it. :p Of course, don't forget the fan fest (free food and booze) at the RenCen after the games Friday.

Not unless they move the games to Oklahoma. Spending ten days or so with my daughter (before her upcoming -- and hopefully last -- deployment) and her fiancé. He grew up in Missouri, doesn't like Notre Dame and is clueless about hockey. I think he's marrying into the wrong family.:D I'm told he has a sports package on his dish TV that carries Fox Detroit, so we're tuning in and he's getting an education. In more ways than one. I mean, I can understand not liking Notre Dame. Sometimes I don't like Notre Dame. But hockey? Yup, school will be in session.

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

So far I have been able to obtain 4 tickets in row 2 of section 123 for Saturdays third place and Championship game (hopefully I can roll into The Joe a little bit late into the 3rd place game on Saturday :) ) The ticket search for the Semis is still on going
