Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

Thanks! :D

In point of fact, although it's very difficult for computational folk to blow up a lab, we did have a go at burning down Cushing (air conditioning failure on the room housing our group's computing cluster).

Dang. Where were you when Jacob wanted to play with liquid nitrogen????

Congratulations to Anders Lee and TJ Tynan for their selection to the CCHA 2nd team. Speaks well for Notre Dame's continued success.

Congratulations to... Speaks well for Notre Dame's continued success.

And Calle Ridderwall as a finalist for the Scholar-Athlete, Tynan for ROTY, Sean Lorenz for Defensive Dman and Coach Jackson for COTY (an award Jeff Blashill will win, rightly so).

Also kudos to Ian Cole for his 1st NHL goal and to Jordan Pearce for his success.

Wayne Gretzky was right. There are no bad shots in overtime. While I was supremely disappointed in the play of our seniors for 64:45, I was quite satisfied with the play of Cap'n Lavin for 6 seconds as he carried the puck through the neutral zone into the offensive zone and left the puck at just the right moment for the player of the game, freshman Jeff Costello. I sure would like to see the seniors step up sooner tomorrow night and put a few behind the brick wall that is Kevin Kapalka.

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

I lurked over to the Lake State thread to get a sense of what those folks thought. Sometimes it's funny what other teams fans post after a game. I think those guys sound a little more demoralized than they should be.

Notre Dame, for the most part, outplayed the Lakers tonight, but that should be expected. We're the more talented team, and we were on our own ice. But that was one lucky win. A bounce here or there and those same fans could be celebrating an impending upset series win.

I also think Roque outcoached Jackson a little bit tonight. Its harder to match up lines for the road team, but as Jackson rolled his four lines out there, Roque seemed to get the upper hand against a number of Notre Dame combinations. Fortunately, Notre Dame made few mistakes, and Johnson played pretty well.

If there was ever a need to regroup after a win, tonight is the night for it.

Interresting comment regarding match-ups. Are there any that we should lookout for tonite?

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

Agree that it made me anxious to see Scofield's line out there matched up against our #4 line in our zone a couple of times. However, give Jackson his due for putting Costello with Sheahan and Maday. They did a nice job matching up with Scofield on even strength most of the night. Costello, obviously, had a terrific game offensively. The seniors seemed to be pressing a bit...Calle and Ben looked out of sync much of the night with their puck handling.

Our PK continues to give me concern. Anyone know if the Lind scratch was coach's decision or injury prompted?

#10/#26/#16 do not have a problem playing any other line. I do agree that the #2 line is the best option against top lines.

One guy that I was pretty impressed with last night was Riley. When he was down at my end of the ice he was winning faceoffs left and right and made numerous blocks that kept the puck from getting to the net. He also made numerous keeps that kept the pressure on LSSU. One thing that I would love to see tonight is more pressure at the net. Last night it seemed to be all about the perimeter and no one was screening. Getting a guy in front might be able to distract their goalie a little bit more, and he does seem to be a good one. Well I'm off to the Bend. Best of luck to our squad tonight and hopefully at the end of 60 (cause I dont want to see another OT) we can all be looking into tickets for next weekend

F#%@. Blew a 2 goal lead.
F&*$. Save for another 6 second burst, the seniors were invisible at best again.
F^*@. Lost face offs at the most inopportune times possible.
F*#%. 0-fer on the PP.
F@%$. I did have 2 games to play tomorrow evening. Now I have go to the JACC and hope like crap that the above doesn't happen tomorrow night.

Let's get it done, boys.

Re: Irish hockey '10-11-Everyone bets on a sure thing, but it takes guts not to fold.

After 38 games, has anyone figured this team out? We've played superb games on the road in beating Michigan and Miami. We played a great game against Boston College, beating the number 1 team in the nation. Yet we lose to Bowling Green. We blow a 2-0 lead at home in a playoff game. Our netminding is excellent one night, and pedestrian the next. Our seniors lead by example all year, and then in the two most important games of the season to date largely disappear for 125 minutes, playing for most of both nights like the pressure is suddenly too much to handle.

So, it comes down to this: Do we see the team come out tonight and grab the opportunity to continue to control their destiny, or do we see them make the same mistakes they've made all year, and leave it all up to someone else? It's as simple as that.

The Irish should be OK tonite but Coach Jackson may have to change up the PP to get more production. It could be some minor adjustments but something needs to be done.

I agree, they should be Ok with minor adjustments, like remote control cattle prods down the seniors shorts. Nuff said!

Tonight will be the last time the seniors dress for a game in the JACC. Tonight will mark their 19th post-season game. Only two other classes have experienced more post-season games, and they graduated last season and the season before (both played 22 post-season games). This class has the ultimate in unfinished business. They can start to finish that business tonight.

They may need to be visible for the Irish to move on! Go Irish

We have managed to play ourselves down to being one of the bubble teams in the tournament. Another showing like the last few outings have been and all we will be looking at is the ice from the outside of the buildings. I have given up 4 sets now, including one of our biggest shows of the year, to watch the seniors forget to show up to play hockey. Don't make me regret my decisions.
