Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

Re: Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

The NCHC would appear to have two slots open to get to 10 teams and that might be driving some of the interest as well.

But, if it gets to 12 teams I expect the conference to be blown apart with DU and UND founding the North American College Hockey Conference or the NACHC. Wait a minute it appears they are four teams and a calligrapher having a stroke away from truly becoming the NaCHo.

I think you meant the North American College Hockey Organization. The NaCHo will wreak havoc on college hockey.

Wow, someone clearly doesn't understand what "rumor" means.

Moorhead wasn't rumored to be trying to start a D1 program, they were publicly fundraising for one. They just couldn't raise enough money. There is a very significant difference.

+1

Re: Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

I still see it as a distinction without a difference - every athletic program is always pursuing donors. Until a school lands a big fish like Pegula, it's nothing but speculation.

Re: Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

“@LetsPlay_Hockey: Iowa State University is still pursuing a Division I men’s hockey varsity program. The logical league for them to join would be the WCHA.”

Yeah, no they're not. They have no where near enough money to add sports at this point, and it'd be major news here in Des Moines if an alum donated that kind of money. Iowa's 3 public universities are all facing huge budget crunches.

You make it sound like schools are looking to join this league. Notre Dame and their TV following already went East - the shine is off the NaCHo, now it's just a bunch of teams spread all over the country that will try to compete with the Bi6Ten for TV time. Look on the bright side - After a couple NaCHo teams drop hockey due to the insane travel budgets and the league folds it will leave UND and DU as independants - free to play whoever they want, make as much money as they want and share it with nobody. Which is what they really wanted all along...

haha you mad bro? You know that isn't going to happen....

I really don't get why everyone in the nWCHA is so butt hurt though; with all the good teams leaving the wcha, the smaller schools will actually have a chance to make a run with the ncaa bid they get each year.

With 24 league games its starting to look like most teams in the NCHC will be traveling significantly less than in the current WCHA and the travel budgets should decrease. With no trips to Alaska or Michigan Tech, time spent traveling may decrease as well.

There will only be 6 NCHC road series each season. NCHC teams in Minnesota/North Dakota will likely make three RT flights each season. DU, CC & MU will likely make four or five plane trips. WMU may take 4 RT flights or less. UNO may make one or two flights.

Seriously? You don't get that people sometimes move? Especially in a 13 year period? You're a bright one, arent you?

Previously, the only flights made by Miami and WMU were to Fairbanks, and most of that expense was picked up by the Alaska school. Four or five flights is a significant increase. Duluth and St Cloud flew to Alaska, again with a decent portion of the expense absorbed by UAA, and they would fly to either Denver or CC on their own dime. These teams will also have 10 out of conference games to play. They won't all be at home. Don't think travel expense is dropping for anyone.

I am bright enough to own a successful wine shop in Minnesota.

I agree, no one's travel expense is dropping under this plan. At 24 conference games (with expanded travel for the majority of the teams), that still leaves 10 non-conference games to fill. If these teams actually think they will be all home games they are kidding themselves. Last I checked, any team that will go to play any of these teams will either demand a check, or a return visit, which adds to the travel budget either way.

Re: Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

I see Nebraska adding a program and Illinois resurrecting theirs in the future.

Hopefully there will be a full B1G hockey league some day. Can't wait for four free wins against PSU next year.

Well, there's the fact that YOU have put "Omaha, NE, USA" as your location.

Oh, and "arent"??? Very bright.
