Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

Re: Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

The new WCHA is made up of the second tier D-II play ups and BG. That would not fit the athletic profile of a BCS school.

Re: Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

I'll believe it when I see a major news publication reporting it. Otherwise it is nothing more than internet rumors.

Iowa State is barely a D1 school, and only a bcs school because the big 12 needed schools.

To each his own but LPH has been around FAR longer than USCHO or CHN, and I trust what they have to say about hockey FAR more than ESPN (especially amateur hockey).

Re: Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

Maybe Iowa State can join Syracuse, Navy, Kennesaw, and MN-Moorhead in the Rumored Collegiate Hockey League. The schools don't actually play, rather they compete by seeing how much buzz they can create without officially forming a team. Moorhead won this years RCHL title by planning out a team but then announcing it just wouldn't work funding wise. Kennesaw won the title in 2005 and Navy has always been consistent. Penn State, a perennial power, was voted out of the league before the start of the season for actually creating an NCAA team.

Haha... This was pretty funny :)

Re: Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

MSU-Moorhead wasn't a rumor they just could find enough money to start up a program.

Sounds like a rumor to me. "We would start one if we had the money," applies to pretty much every NCAA school that doesn't currently have hockey, explicitly stated or not.

Wow, someone clearly doesn't understand what "rumor" means.

Moorhead wasn't rumored to be trying to start a D1 program, they were publicly fundraising for one. They just couldn't raise enough money. There is a very significant difference.

Re: Iowa State pursuing D1 Hockey

Its no secret that the mid-tier BCS schools in the major conferences are under tremendous financial strain due to the escalating arms race in college football. Its possible that they are reviewing their mix of sports to find revenue streams that will enable them to break even or make a modest profit as opposed to ****ing money away on the non-revenue sports.

The thing that separates the Big 12 from the Big 10, Pac 12 & SEC is that the schools don't share the TV revenue equally. Oklahoma & Texas get a lions share of the revenue.

The NCHC would appear to have two slots open to get to 10 teams and that might be driving some of the interest as well.

Either way the Iowa State rumor certainly makes the other school considering hockey make more sense.

On good authority ISU is not going Div I hockey. It's a constant rumor and nothing more.
