Incredibly Dull Boring 2022 Pairwise and Tournament Possibilites Thread

We have. Duh. Just like many of the other B1G teams have. How is it that people don't know that? And we have even in the CCHA post home ice.

So I really don't understand that concept of permanent hosts.

What is there to not understand? My idea of permanent hosts is for attendance. You're claiming you have bid...what bids have been turned down other than on campus?

If attendance is that important, why not campus hosts? Far more reliable source of fans. The only reason you've made your proposal are places that are close enough to schools to bring a large crowd. Lets not pretend that permanent hosts are not an advantage to the host- they draw fans for a reason.

And I have posted already the times we've hosted a regional as part of the B1G. As has other B1G teams.

Have you been to Ann Arbor? It's not called the cesspool of the West for nothing.

At least North Dakotans are smart enough to realize there is nothing else going on, so might as well check out a hockey game...even if it means traveling out of state. ; p

Fargo is just an hour away from UND, just is Loveland to Denver. An hour.

Tell me how that not a home ice advantage.

The closest place we can "host" is in Toledo, which would be a 45 min advantage for us. Van Andel is 2 hours- State is way closer, as is Western. Heck, it's close to Ferris State, too.

The NCAA won't go with permanent hosts. In order to maximize revenue sites/schools must bid against each other. If it were to go with permanent hosts the price would not necessarily be as high.

Perhaps because Fargo is not our home ice?

Fargo is 75 miles away. Sioux Falls is 4.5 hours away.

You have Detroit and Toledo, both of which are closer to Ann Arbor than Fargo is to Grand Forks. But, it is probably expecting too much for a program that dodges opponents to bid on sites as far as 45 miles away from campus. Think of the kids!!! ; )

Ok... you win. It's not important that Fargo is 1 hour from UND, and like forever from every other place on the planet. Not important at all. That huge Denver crowd in Loveland was certainly not a help.

BTW, there are no rinks in Detroit that would work. And I think we did host at Toledo- and I'd be happy if that was made a permanent spot since OSU, Miami, BGSU, us, MSU are all pretty close. Assuming one of the teams make it.

I love how you keep ignoring Sioux Falls. It's pretty comical. 4.5 hours away. North Dakota packed it, and the team didn't even make the tournament. Toledo couldn't even crack 3k people the last time a regional was there (2013 - with Notre Dame and Miami in that regional).

As for Detroit, please explain how Little Caesars wouldn't work.

My suggestion was with the thought that on campus is a non starter for coaches/administrators. I really wouldn't care if they went back to allowing on campus. I also don't care about a neutral site host having an advantage. I simply want people in the stands.

I still don't understand your last point. Are there bids other than on campus that are being turned down? If so, what bids? Just because a bid was once granted doesn't mean that same site is still bidding today.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned here yet that Sioux Falls is being hosted in the next cycle by Omaha, not by North Dakota. That changes a whole lot about the situation. I say let NoDak host requently at Fargo if they want, and let Omaha host at Sioux Falls if they want. Those are good central places.

The real problem is lack of hosting interest in the Ohio/Michigan area of the country. I think that Toledo is going to take a turn again soon, though, so good luck.

By the way, the numbers posted here are abysmal for attendance. 2000 or so at 2 places, and 3000 at another one? Not so good.

Here are the future sites:

2023
Allentown (Penn State)
Fargo (North Dakota)
Bridgeport (Yale)
Manchester (New Hampshire)

2024
Maryland Heights (Lindenwood)
Sioux Falls (Omaha)
Providence (Brown)
Springfield (Massachusetts / AIC)

2025
Allentown (Penn State)
Fargo (North Dakota)
Manchester (New Hampshire)
Toledo (Bowling Green)

2026
Loveland (Denver)
Sioux Falls (Omaha)
Albany (ECAC)
Worcester (Holy Cross)

Weird that they let 3 western schools host in 2025.

For the love of God, no more Albany and Allentown! But Maryland Heights? I'll take the under on that one too.

That 2025 setup with Allentown AND Toledo? Good luck.

Springfield is a new one which is actually a pretty solid central location in the east.

Would Lowell be allowed to bid with Tsongas? Don't believe that's on campus and it's a decent facility.

Finally, if a league itself is allowed to host it probably makes sense to guarantee them one team from that league to that site. Maybe that ended up happening with Harvard but they have no fans anyway. Unfortunately the evidence suggests the committee doesn't even really care about attendance when it comes to placing teams.

Maryland Heights??? On the rocks across the Potomac from Harpers Ferry, WV? How the ^&*( did they build a rink there? It sounds like a place that MissThundercat would use.

You can nitpick Thursday in Loveland as being a bit disappointing but it was a Thursday. Saturday was a good atmosphere...4,487. In this era that is what you want in a regional final in a properly sized arena. Overall, Loveland was a success. I hope they continue to bid and that Denver continues to make the tournament.

3,449 to watch Minnesota State-Notre Dame. That COULD have been at least a decent atmosphere except for the fact you're playing a regional in a 15,000 seat arena or whatever it is.

Day one Worcester a success but tonight will be bad. Even with Minnesota-Western, can it outdraw the Albany final? We shall see.

Allentown: failure per usual

And I know we talk about the same things every year but I paid $118 for the three games in Worcester. I didn't have a dog in the fight and to me, I will pay. But I go by myself. It's my time away from my family lol. My kids are young. But there's no chance I would spend $400+ to bring a family of 4. So while diehards like me will always go, you're never gonna attract local families etc to fill the arena at those prices. Nobody seems to care though. In the end the players don't get an atmosphere they deserve.
