Re: I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

Character actor Harry Carey, jr. One of those guys we've all seen and instantly recognize, even if we don't know his name. Appeared in many John Ford movies with John Wayne. Including "The Searchers."* Also a staple in Disney's "Spin & Marty."

*When John Wayne grasped his forearm at the end of "The Searchers," it was an homage to Harry Carey, Sr's signature move.

That asstard from Venezuela is sounding like he's just about ready to kick-off. There are reports swirling he's either hanging on by a thread or already dead.

It's been like that for a day or two. Either way there's not much time left on the clock.

He has only a few hours until the death tax exemption goes way down!

She's still alive, but dunno if she's out of the hospital yet after surgery to fix an infection of her feeding tube. That was two weeks ago or so.

CNN said:
Leaders in Venezuela's capital are asking residents to take a more somber approach than usual to ring in the New Year.

Instead of marking the occasion with salsa music, Venezuelans should pray for President Hugo Chavez's health, Caracas officials say.

Cue up the salsa everyone! ;)

If it was a patient-I would have had it on the critical list for several years and called for the last rites a while ago.

One saving grace could be similar words have probably been uttered several times the past century alone, but it has be tempered with the fact DC doesn't seem to have the leadership in spades to stem the tide.

I meant to include a :p

A few hours ago when the "fiscal cliff" seemed inevitable, there were rumors on Twitter of massive inflation starting tomorrow. One person speculated that a gallon of milk would cost $11,000. Seems a bit hyperbolic to me. Now it appears there will be a vote at 3AM to save the country the financial calamity that we would face if we went across this arbitrary and totally fabricated deadline. And we know it's arbitrary and fabricated because 3AM is after midnight...unless the entire Congress is flying to Alaska to cast a vote before the New Year begins...

Exactly-the deadline is pure propaganda. After all-who set the deadline? Pretty much the same bunch of circus clowns who are now haggling over it. Many who voted against some of the items are now fighting to extend them. Sometimes it is better to just turn off the news channels and all the reporting and just turn on TCM and watch an old Rita Hayworth movie. In any case-Happy 2013 to all you guys regardless of your political persuasion.:)

I thought this was interesting...

Though it probably belongs in one of the political threads...

Singer Patti Page, age 85. :(

Page died on New Year's Day in Encinitas, Calif., according to publicist Schatzi Hageman, ending one of pop music's most diverse careers. She was 85 and just five weeks away from being honored at the Grammy Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Recording Academy.

Absolutely huge singing star of my childhood years. You could not turn on a radio without hearing one of her songs. Somewhere we have a bunch of her records on old 78's. RIP

I must have heard the Tennessee Waltz and How Much is that Doggie in the Window 1000 times back then. Not a bad looking lady in those days.
She had shows on all three networks and was the original crossover star.

NHL coach and GM Wren Blair

Wren Blair, the first coach of the expansion Minnesota North Stars, as well as an NHL general manager and coach of the 1958 world champion Whitby Dunlops, passed away Wednesday night at an Oshawa nursing facility. He was 87.

Known as The Bird, Blair was famous for alerting the Boston Bruins to a rising star defenceman named Bobby Orr. As leader of the Dunlops, he formed a senior team that challenged the up-and-coming Soviet Union and beat them years before the ’72 Summit Series
