Hockey East Semis - BU vs Maine 3/16/12

Re: Hockey East Semis - BU vs Maine 3/16/12

Not even an injury whistle, which you often get.

All's well that ends well, though. If Abbott is back for the NCAAs, then I'd say all's well.

It was flabbergasting. Man down, injured, and the puck goes 185 feet the other way without a whistle. But it wasn't as if it was a BU player down.

Can we fukin fire Parker now? Yet another game where his team is outplayed for 50 out of 60 minutes and craps out in the semis.

Total embarassment I agree ,this does not look like an NCAA team. Parkers record in the HE Semis blows the last 12 years. The "Garden" isnt his haven anymore. Hopefully he'll be gone (one more game).

The geezer has managed to win the HE tournament twice in the last 15 freakin years. He's lost 3 out of 4 Beanpots in what is essentually a 2 team contest. Its long past time for a change.

This is lame, but not so lame to keep me from saying: a great game by Maine. They deserve to be in the finals.

I didn't have the advantage of tv replay, but live, I didn't see a penalty on Abbott. Looked like both guys just lost an edge and went down.

Reason for no whistle... my guess is because BU had possession and was going the other way up ice. Had Maine touched the puck, or if the play had continued in the vicinity of the injured player, there would have been a whistle.

Hate to break it to you Jofa it hasn't been his haven in a long time.

That was my assumption, too. Though I have seen situations where a whistle is blown even when the injured player's team doesn't have possession.

The BU guy did have an arm up against Abbott's neck/face, but I don't think that's what brought him down, either. Even if he has a chance to play tonight, I hope he sits if he's not 100%. I'd rather have him for the NCAAs. Assuming he's not seriously injured. :(

Re: Hockey East Semis - BU vs Maine 3/16/12

I kind of see if both ways with the refs on Abbott.....on the one hand its a whistle you get in college a lot, but he was behind the net and out of harms way, lot of times they blow it because the guy down is in the way. Same time, it was 200 feet from the Maine net and I didn't feel BU had a clear odd-man rush that would've been denied by a whistle. Tough one, worked out OK for Maine in the end, but I'd bet Jackie would've flipped his melon if that happened to his team.

Re: Hockey East Semis - BU vs Maine 3/16/12

I only saw it on TV, without sound, but it seemed as though the refs missed a lot of calls. The one that sticks out is Justin Courtnall's flying elbow, while there was a delayed call going against BU. And some of the calls they made were terrible. I even thought the linemen didn't do a very good job. There were times when I swore it was offsides, but not called.

Flying elbow? You mean when the guy was running at him and he put the elbow up in self-defense. The guy ran into HIM, why should he be penalized. He didn't "throw" the elbow. It was 20 feet in front of me...

I thought it was obvious in real time there was contact to the head, a supposed point of emphasis. Was it dirty or cheap, no but it was contact to the head. I saw it many times last night that wasn't called though so.... I'm not shocked they didn't blow the whistle, he wasn't in the way of the play and BU got a clean breakout. I saw play stopped at Alfond last weekend where MC had the puck and a Maine player was down so I guess it depends on the pair

Ok can all you Mainiacs who have called for Whitehead's head for so long finally give the guy his due? Granted he's not Sean and will never be, but look at his record compared to everyone else not named York since 2002. He has not had the talent that York, Parker and Umile have had since then, but other than York his record at champinship time vs Parker is arguably better. probably better than Umile too.

as BU fan I hate losing to Maine, but Maine has come up bigger when it counts of late. The program could have tanked after Sean, but Timmy had the team playing for all the marbles in 2002 and 2004.

I would not be surprised to see Maine win tonite and do damage at the regionals. Quite a turnaround from November I would say. Meanwhile BU is .500 since that double dip vs Maine in January. I think BU fans have more ammunition against Parker.

I like you. You make me laff. Post again please.

Re: Hockey East Semis - BU vs Maine 3/16/12

didn't see it, but just because a guy is coming at you doesn't mean you can get your elbow up as a defense mechanism. May not have been a flying elbow, but it's still an elbowing penalty...or should be.
