Hockey East 2020-2021

The comment to Carvel saying he should worry about winning games is horrific! I wonder if Metcalf survives this now since this is his first job that isn't at his alma mater UNH...

Absolutely. HE is a Mickey Mouse league in every way in terms what is controlled by the league office. It's a real shame.

Total gd clownshow.

I honestly thought people were being too hard on Metcalf before in this thread, but reading that article changes my mind completely. I can’t even imagine getting that response from the commissioner as a coach. Great reporting by BC Interruption. Put every single news media outlet who covers Hockey East to shame.

That being said I’ve been trying to independently verify the HEPI and I’m a bit confused. I can get the winning percentage no problem but I’m stuck on the SOS aspect. Wouldn’t I need to know the HEPI of every opponent to calculate it? And how am I supposed to know the HEPI of anyone before calculating the HEPI? Does my confusion make sense? Also can someone explain? I have pure math degrees from two Hockey East Schools so I like to think I’d be able to understand...

Wondering if that includes the on-ice official who doubles as Father Leahy's right-hand man, Nick? :-)

A lot of us (me included) thought HEA couldn't do worse than Joey Buttons. I guess we were wrong ...

Don't bother, save yourself the aggro.

HEPI is Sanskrit for "leave the unmarked bills in small denominations out behind the dumpster".

In Excel this becomes a circular reference.

I do find it VERY interesting the Jimmy Connolly and Mike McMahon both have not tweeted about this. Seems like they are in the pocket of the conference office of course.

It's like everywhere else ... the legacy media is dying a slow death, and its first instinct is to snuggle up to those in power to try to preserve themselves.

Yeah I was DM'ing him on Twitter about this last night, but just need to go to File>Options>Formulas and then check off "Enable iterative calculation." For anyone interested in going down the same path.

Something something I was told there would be no math something something. /tee hee

In the end I'm not sure it's that big of a deal. I remember comparing to KRACH and the standings only had one difference between UNH and Maine. But there's simply no reason not to share the formula with the coaches and then discuss if everyone is on board. Honestly, why would that have been so difficult? The ADs should have had absolutely nothing to do with this process. That part makes no sense to me. Leaman said in one of the emails he knows the PWR, I am sure all these coaches do. Maybe not every coach would agree with every little detail of the HEPI but at some point you would reach a majority decision as to what the best process is for seeding the teams.

The question about "how do we get a 4th team in" was hilarious. I am assuming that was from Leaman, the NCAA bubble expert!

I think Carvel and Leaman really run the league. Bazin probably sits back and watches it all and gets called in for council. Not sure York knows how to use a computer. Souza isn't allowed in....Cavanaugh is the new young guy learning the ropes and they probably all laugh at Albie and the rest of the guys.

I can buy Leaman having a say in the room, but no way Carvel. Commish Nigel made that pretty clear with his dismissive "go win some games" comments that were exposed the other day.

It's still run by a lot of BC folks, and Boston folks in general (maybe even Madigan?). Every once in awhile they have to let something happen like Wednesday night, when Hansen kneecapped BC just to throw folks off the scent. BC is still in the big tourney, no worries. Mission accomplished, and Father Leahy's right hand man at The Heights still gets to moonlight as a ref.

And NO way would they even deem to allow Luce into the discussion. Persona Non Grata.

It all used to be SO much easier when Jack Parker ran the league in the old days ...
