Link: http://undhockey.areavoices.com/?p=88477The NCHC is moving on without Notre Dame.
The league sent out a release this afternoon saying that it will start as an eight-team league in 2013-14.
Notre Dame has been negotiating with the NCHC, asking for significant advantages/benefits that the league’s athletic directors would not give to them.
Whether Notre Dame winds up going to Hockey East or holding out and waiting to see what happens with the Big East and its other athletic programs is up in the air.
As a hockey east and Merrimack fan/alumnus we are thrilled to welcome you. I like your style of hockey, gritty and hard working. Played a hell of a game against us coming back in the 3rd last year at regionals. Looking forward to playing you regularly.I don't speak for all Irish fans, but I'm thrilled that we may get to play in the best college hockey conference in the nation.

I haven't really been a fan of the NCHC brass but I absolutely respect the decision they've made. Didn't cave to the demands of Notre Dame. They may be a "name" or a "brand" but I'm glad the NCHC didn't accommodate these nose in the air *****s. It is apparent, ND wanted to be what Texas is to the Big XII but smaller and well, hockey.
I would've been mad about this if the NCHC didn't do anything about trying to get ND into the NCHC but it is obvious that Notre Dame bit off more than they could chew by asking for incentives that the NCHC is not willing to give them. So with that said, I'm fine with the teams in the NCHC. Sucks that ND isn't coming but with the stipulations they had, they can go to the Hockey East.
PS You also gotta love what the NCHC did by making an announcement. Doesn't give ND the ability to say they chose Hockey East over the NCHC when they only have one option now.
Honestly, I think Notre Dame had decided on its future before the NCHC announcement was released.

Totally agree, NCHC didn't want to look bad
A little more on what we mean ... ND preferred NCHC ... neither side was willing to budge on what was important to them ... so ...
... ND was going to just go to HEA, and that would make it seem like that was their first choice ... NCHC doesn't want that impression ...
Link: http://twitter.com/#!/chnews... instead, pre-emptively releases that they are the ones that decided ... which again, not the whole truth ... A PR game basically.
So somewhat correct but a little incorrect as well. Sounds to me that ND is settling with Hockey East but the NCHC made a PR move to make it seem like they made the decision for ND. Lot's of half-truths going on if you ask me.
Yeah, they must've paid CHN to say Notre Dame preferred NCHC over Hockey East.Sounds to me like NCHC doesn't want to look bad.

Or is it that you, as a fan of a Hockey East team, doesn't like that your league was the second choice? Which I don't understand why since ND is ultimately going to be settling with that choice.![]()
Just looking at one season is not a good indicator, so I used the information compiled by Kevin Kurtt and posted on the Let’s Play Hockey website from 1999-2011, excepting 2004-05.
If Bertagna lets Notre Dame bend us over like ND does to everyone else in the other sports I'm going to kick him in the nuts.
Don't really give a dam if we're ND's second choice or not...our league backs up our prestige with National Championships...ND having us as their "second" choice aint changing that. NCHC has more face to save here than Hockey East....
Is it necessarily the case that ND is not going to go the independent route and angle for an eventual Big-10 invite?
Jackson expects Notre Dame to decide on its conference affiliation for the 2013-2014 season in the next few days.
It will likely be the Hockey East or the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, he said, with television being a major factor.
Independence, he added, is not an option.
“We have great choices,” Jackson said of both conferences. “Either way, we can’t go wrong.”
