Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Carmine, especially since hockey east isn't competing against anyone for them. If bertagna gives in to their demands, we'll know more than ever that it's time for a new commissioner.

I guess my question is ADs and head coaches will have plenty of input, right? Can't imagine the likes of York and Parker willing to accept NDs demands.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

I have been to the Fieldhouse about 6 times and while the rink can be hard to find for those who have not been there before it has some nice points, for one the parking is nice and close and I liked that the visiting fans get to sit behind the net thier team shoots at twice, which you never can get anywhere else unless you want to sit in enemy territory. Would also add another host school to HE at a usual NCAA site.

Doesn't sound like you've been to the Field House in a while. Basically all of that has changed.

My guess is, it's a done deal. I think HE already gave them want they wanted. That's why the press release from the NCHC today. I would expect something from ND/HE in the next couple of days.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Note to bertagna. You don't have to ruin a good thing...notre dame has absolutely NO leverage if they want to get into hockey east. Take a hint from the NCHC and don't give in to their absurd demands.

Ditto, ditto, and ditto again! For once, ND isn't holding all the cards so hopefully JB and the ADs play their hand accordingly.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

From Mike McMahon of the Eagle Tribune

No surprise, but multiple sources saying Notre Dame to HEA all but official. Ironing out details still.
Several sources indicating that Notre Dame is expected to announce its decision to join Hockey East on Wednesday. Could still change
Again, no surprise, but ND's decision to join HEA was based "very largely" on television, according to source.

Notice the wording in that last tweet..."ND's decision"...

This is my thought exactly. HE said OK to their TV wants, ND said ok sounds good since NCHC isn't budging, NCHC comes out first to save face. Was already a done deal before NCHC announcing.

Hey, maybe the NBC/Versus deal is coming to Hockey East instead :p

Out of curiosity, what would be Notre Dame's demands? Seems like BC fans are the ones who are most against the addition of Notre Dame. Do you view them as a threat to continued BC success or do you feel they are not a good HE fit? Please explain.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

On versus as well as nesn? So it would be blacked out here? Anyway, sounds as if Bertagna did in fact bend over and take it. Disappointing.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Scoreboard, this is most definitely not just about BC. I have a hard time believing any HE fan would be in favor of adding ND if it means bending over and accepting their TV demands. Look, ND is turning into a great program, but added competition is not the issue here (at least from the BC perspective).

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

according to the bu schedule poster the he semis and championship are on VS as well as a few regular season games.

Interesting. The HEA site still shows those games on NESN.

What demands do you think they had for Hockey East?
He hasn't answered that. As far a tv coverage goes, I'm sure we in NE will still get the games we've been getting if not more. I also have a place on Long island and don't get NESN. But I do get VS. Good for me.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

I'd like to know that as well as what ND's demands were for joining the NCHC. Cause it is obvious that the NCHC wasn't willing to bend over and take it in the *** by ND.

You don't even know if there were any demands, but you're sure eager to portray the mighty LTHC as standing up to them :p

The fans are standing up to them! The security guards are standing up to them! The peanut vendors are standing up to them! And by golly, if I could get down there, I'd be standing up to them!

Maybe on Versus outside of New England?

LOL. How can I answer it if I don't know? I'm not pretending to know all the details, but there must be a reason or reasons why the NCHC told ND to go screw.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Not sure how more TV coverage and more national exposure for the league is a bad thing or should be considered some god-awful, evil demand. The types of demands that I'd put in that category would be crazy requests like HE paying for travel etc. As a HE fan I would obviously be upset if the commish bent over for a demand like that...but increasing national TV coverage for the league? How does that harm me? It doesn't. Could care less if ND wants TV deals, in the end it means more people watching HE games and college hockey in general, and again, I don't see that as a bad thing.

Unless Notre Dame told the LTHC to go screw.
