Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

They could do 3 geographic pods (that could even rotate non-geographically yearly) with 4 games against the 2 in their pod and 2 against the other league teams to total 20 league games. For example, ND-Miami-WMU could be one geographic pod with NoDak-UMD-SCSU and DU-CC-UNO the others.

I like the pod idea. It would work in that division because you have nine solid teams. Also with how far spread out the teams are it would be difficult to do the home and home weekend series like they do out east.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

And really, why would I want my team to be the 3rd (or 11th) wheel in an established conference?

Curious what you mean by this...

A Hockey East preview I wrote for examiner.com. I'll be periodically writing about New England college hockey all season long.

Cool. I'm a little surprised so many people are picking BC. I thought they'd win the RS title last year, but I don't see it this year.

HE is a completely established league, with set, old rivalries. It's like moving to a new town when you're 16. You may become friends with the neighbor girl, but she will still be best friends with the girls she's gone to school with for the last 10 grades. At least in the new league, ND would move with 2 mates and meet up with a former mate, but the other members would also be experiencing that same newness when the CCHA teams move into the neighborhood.

FWIW, I fully expect ND to go to the new conference and make the announcement tomorrow or Friday.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

I want Hockey East to stay at 10. I have no desire to see Notre Dame in the confence and I believe they should stay west and either go Big 10 or NCHC. RPI should stay ECAC do to the great rivals such as Clarkson, St. Lawrence etc. I could see U Conn to add connecticut as they already have the rest of new england in the confernce, but honestly i think the eastern confernces are fine and just need a home for UAH and a few others out west.

Technically, almost all the schools in the NCHC(minus St. Cloud) are former mates of Notre Dame via the CCHA or for the 10 years that ND was in the WCHA. :D:p

OK, I took it to mean you didn't think ND would get a fair shake in HE or that they were destined to be the 3rd best program. I don't believe either of those things. Look, I don't want ND in Hockey East either, but I think it would be a success. Interesting that you think they'll be joining the new conference where others expect Hockey East.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Your actual argument was that Ralph and myself, because we have been active members for quite some time and have accrued high post counts, are for some reason not worth listening to.

Ahh, I see. You've missed the point. No surprise there, but since you illustrate it so nicely, that's why no one should listen to you. A.) you are too thick to understand the point being made and B.) you are a crybaby.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

No one is talking about what the play off structure would be in a 12 team HEA. Would they stick with an eight team field and leave four teams out?

Bring in ND and RPI.

Kick out Merrimack and merge the two UMass schools.

Back to 10. Everyone is happy to finally be rid of Merrimack.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

without a womens program and better facilities, sad but probably true

u conn already has womens team in league, cash behind them and better facilities

UConn does not have better facilities than MC. Freitas is little more than an aluminum shed with bleachers on the inside. Plus, its capacity is only 2,000. They have put none of the cash at their disposal towards the hockey program.

Better facilities? Have you seen their rink? You think their hockey team uses the same "facilities" and training area as bball? Think again.
I don't have the numbers but I'm willing to bet MC puts a lot more money into their hockey team than UConn.

As for a playoff system with 12 teams I would say stick with 8. I always thought that 8 was too inclusive anyways - diminishes the regular season too much in my mind.

I love it when you act like you're smarter than everyone else. It gives me the opportunity to chuckle at the spectacle. Nice open tag there, oh genius of the board.
