Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

How about U Mass, Lowell, and Merrimack?

I don't know if I would say that.

MC, definitely not. They have had some recent success and MD appears to have that program going in the right direction. Maybe not, maybe they will fail terribly without daCosta, but I don't think so.

Lowell....tough call there as well. They just flat out suck for two years then they are pretty decent and then really good before choking. Overall, I think Lowell finishes ahead of RPI 3 of 4 seasons.

Now, I would have said (actually I might have) VT didn't stand a chance at being competitve in HE. But Fallon kept them in it until recruiting could pick up and outside of last year UVM has been a mid-pack team. I am not sure, in a 12 team league, RPI challenges for much better then 8th-10th.

Maybe UMass....

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

yeah, but there really isnt a western or eastern NY, it's all "upstate" above Westchester County:p..........UNH wins Hockey East (regular season) with BU,BC and Mack fighting for second:eek: PC makes the biggest improvement

everything North of NYC is "upstate" don't get confused ;)

In all fairness, hokydope is usually pretty spot on.

Who says information coerced out of people tied up in the candy van isn't reliable....

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

RPI would bring a lot of value to HEA.
* A renovated rink that seats about 4,800
* A strong following that travels well
* Average attendance of about 3,700 per game.
* A mid-major media market
* Three daily papers and five TV news outlets that cover the team on a regular basis
* A cable TV outlet (Time Warner) that covers 3-5 games each season that would likely do more and perhaps pick up feeds of some away games.
* Expansion of the league's geographic foot print into EASTERN NYS - RPI is in Troy, about 20 miles from the Massachusetts border.
* A solid hockey tradition and history (2 national titles and numerous league crowns in the past 60 years)
* A history with HEA programs and Commissioner Joe Bertagna.
* A world-class academic research institution

Those are the main benefits.
Their coach and AD have been saying all the right things recently about staying in the ECAC, but that could change if there was an actual invitation from HEA.

Also;
This is a well done analysis. Lots of speculation and some gaps because a lot of people aren't talking, but his thoughts are sound and supported by facts.

I have to say, I wasn't very excited about the prospect of adding RPI at first, but the idea is definitely growing on me.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

I love how they keep saying the program is on the rise. have not won a tournament game or scored a tournament goal in over 25 years. were 6th and 5th the past 2 years in an inferior league and lost both years in ECAC tournament in first rd, to teams seeded much lower. 5th vs 11th(lost) and 6th vs 12th(lost). Last year to dead last Colgate and year before to next to last Brown.
1 crack at NCAA, basically last team in and they get shut out in first round 6-0
Other programs would look at that as a huge flop at end of year but Teedle D, Tweedle dumd, Tweedle dumber and Tweedle dumbest want to tell us, "program on the rise". The 3 or 4 who have written over 250,000 posts do not speak for RPI.

RPI will be a program on the rise when they get into top 3, deep in ECAC play offs and or get to a frozen four.

I think the original reference was to more than just the quality of the hockey program. And we are talking 2013 so who knows whether Mack can keep it up in their tiny rink without their present jr. and sr. classes.

IMO... if RPI goes East and program support continues from the admin then I expect them to win a lot of recruits from NY that they presently lose to other schools in the ECAC. Add this to the present upward trend (yes I know Hokydad you think there is no trend so save the needless post) in recruiting talent and I expect them to be consistently above NU and PC too. In short... 2nd eschelon behind BU/BC/UND/UNH until further evidence of recruiting consistency and coaching results comes along.

It's totally true.

Of course, when you stink so bad, any perceived step in the right direction, no matter how small, can be misconstrued as being on the way up.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Says the guy who uses other people's post counts as part of actual arguments.

I don't even know what this means?

Are you saying post counts aren't an "actual argument?" What was my "actual argument" anyways?

Put the peace pipe down chief and take the buffalo chip off your shoulder for a minute.

Huh?

Everyone is above PC. So let's just save that one off to the side. NU...depends on the new coach, but NU is usually a mid pack team. Without Cronin's roid rage scaring the bejeezuz out of the players they could take a step backwards. But, RPI will not be 5th-6th place behind BC/BU/UNH and North Dakota?

Not sure I would bet on that one.

1) Obviously. 2) No, they aren't. 3) Your actual argument was that Ralph and myself, because we have been active members for quite some time and have accrued high post counts, are for some reason not worth listening to.

Remember, kids. If you ever bring up someone's post count, be it high or low, for a reason why someone's wrong, you've lost the argument.

Put the peace pipe down chief and take the buffalo chip off your shoulder for a minute.

Oh, right! I almost forgot that you're racist, too.

I meant ND and I'll assume you knew that and are just being clever for our entertainment. Perhaps we'll have the chance to find out which one of us is right.
