Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

I was for RPI to Hockey East until I realized that'd mean more Red Cloud showing up in threads. Nobody wants that.

Good point. But look at the bright side, it would also mean BC beating his team 2 times a year for a long time and would make RPI even easier to make fun of (if that is possible). They would be pretty similar to Vermont I think.

And if you thought we needed to disinfect Conte after visits from the BU fanboys and hillbillies from Maine and New Hampshire, can you imagine how much Lysol will be needed after Red Cloud shows up?

Jack Parker would probably want it so he can try to take off his list another team that is undefeated at Agganis. :D:p

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

If we had to take red cloud and RPI to get Notre Dame then the Fighting Irish should go stay out west. That's a terrible deal.

UAH should apply though. It's not like getting turned down would be any worse then right now.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

What about Quinnipiac? They are at D-1 and have a brand new arena and seem to be active about promoting their sports teams.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

I really wish this had all happened sooner. Rather than ND/RPI we could have done Nd/Miami. That would have been great. RPI is basically the best available option regardless of how good an option they really are. They're like the chunky, butter face chick that is the only one in the class without a prom date and gets snatched up by default (are you surprised? We're talking about RPI here).

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Redskin Warriors has received an unconfirmed report that Notre Dame and RPI are moving to Hockey East in 2013.

Our source with credible access to the ongoing talks tells us the Irish will take their talents east, and along with the Engineers of RPI will become the 11th and 12th members respectively, of Hockey East. If true, it could also signal Notre Dame’s intent to join the ACC for all other sports as the rest of the collegiate athletic world undergoes the same sort of seismic shift as hockey. And, for certain it’s a coup for Hockey East to land the last remaining free agent gem in the Fighting Irish.

For Notre Dame, this move makes sense. They would become conference mates with longtime rival, and Catholic college brethren, Boston College as well as Providence and Merrimack who also don the cloth.

For RPI, well, what an opportunity. They will be reunited with former ECAC rivals and this ties nicely to their reemergence on the college hockey scene as young head coach Seth Appert has the Engineers headed in the right direction. Their travel costs won’t rise and their sense of prestige and strength of schedule will certainly improve.

In the meantime, we’ll try to gain confirmation and will update this story as we can.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

The part about it signlaling ND going to ACC doesn't really add up. Hockey does not drive decisions at ND. I still seriously doubt ND going to the ACC.

I would take this with a mountain of salt.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Only thing this would signal with respect to ND football would be that they're not looking at joining the Big 10+2 right now. Says nothing about the ACC, if anything, that they're looking to remain independent. Of course, this could all change in about five minutes. I'll wait for a more credible source.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

If this is true then we are going to need at least seven more threads started. Ralph and RedCloud have more posts then all the HE posters combined.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Is anyone else annoyed that the world turns around Notre Dame? :rolleyes:

Who wouldn't want Hat Trick Jesus :rolleyes:

Ralph is a gentleman and adds great value to the boards. RC on the other hand is a child and adds nothing, no more, no less.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

I have read that, but what extra value do they bring? Is HE looking to expand into western NY? I don't see that anyone brings value to the conference.
RPI would bring a lot of value to HEA.
* A renovated rink that seats about 4,800
* A strong following that travels well
* Average attendance of about 3,700 per game.
* A mid-major media market
* Three daily papers and five TV news outlets that cover the team on a regular basis
* A cable TV outlet (Time Warner) that covers 3-5 games each season that would likely do more and perhaps pick up feeds of some away games.
* Expansion of the league's geographic foot print into EASTERN NYS - RPI is in Troy, about 20 miles from the Massachusetts border.
* A solid hockey tradition and history (2 national titles and numerous league crowns in the past 60 years)
* A history with HEA programs and Commissioner Joe Bertagna.
* A world-class academic research institution

Those are the main benefits.
Their coach and AD have been saying all the right things recently about staying in the ECAC, but that could change if there was an actual invitation from HEA.

Also;
This is a well done analysis. Lots of speculation and some gaps because a lot of people aren't talking, but his thoughts are sound and supported by facts.

Miami has a better hockey program right now, but RPI is on the rise and has great tradition and a strong following.
RPI makes a lot of sense because of travel and relationships with HEA programs. They certainly bring more to the table than some of the current members of HEA.
I wouldn't be so qucik to call them the fat chick at the dance. There are a couple of guys in the league that should look in the mirror before turning their nose up at a chance at the Engineers.

Well, if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black! Your next honest contribution will be your first!
