Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

My vote for #12 is as has always been Quinny. It might have been UConn if they gave a damn. But they don't.

Quinny's arena is excellent.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

UConn is the only way to go.

*What they lack in quality they make up for with name power.

*Hockey East would have all the Big East teams.

*UConn can recruit Canadian players, unlike Army.

*When casual college sports fans look at the standings, they will say
"wow, this conference has Notre Dame, Boston College, Providence and UConn."

All those teams are in/have been in the Big East.

Not to mention the other schools, save Merrimack and Lowell, carry division 1 name recognition as well.

*Oh yeah, Connecticut is also the only New England state not represented in the New England conference.

UConn is the perfect final piece to the puzzle.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

It might be the only way to go if they were actually interested in their hockey program. There's no indication that they are. I don't think Army was mentioned once as a potential candidate. And I don't think casual college sports fans look at hockey standings. They might only know who makes it to the FF since it's on ESPN. If you want CT represented, Quinnipiac is a better option.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Why won't we see every team every season? The conference schedule will be 22 games - each team would face a HEA opponent once home and once away.

I think it's a near certainty that ND won't be on that plan due to impracticality, and a strong probability that at least one other team (and possibly three others) will also not be on that plan.

I'd bet it will be something like this:
ND, Maine, Vermont, and team X (be it RPI, UConn, or QU) will be on the "special" schedule. They'll pair off, with the pairs playing home and home with each other in one-offs during the season. Each will play four series at home against half of the remaining teams and four series on the road against the other half. The pairings might or might not rotate.

The remaining eight teams will play home-and-home with everyone but the above four.

That will give a home-away balanced schedule for everyone (eleven home games, eleven away games). It will avoid weird scheduling at ND, where the Irish would be looking at Thursday-Saturday or Friday-Sunday series where the second game would be against a rested team, and which would require teams to make the long trip to South Bend for a single game.

UConn ...name power.

LOLOLOLOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Relevant. NOT!

Two bad assumptions here. Casual sports fans looking at college hockey standings and anyone being impressed with Providence and Uconn.

OK... maybe you just hooked me... Are you a gag poster?

This is the dumbest post I've seen in quite some time. Congrats.

The casual college sports fan looking at Hockey East standings is one of the more amusing suggestions I've ever seen.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Prepare to be disappointed when you get there. Very nice campus (obviously) but the rest of South Bend... let's just say it's interesting.

It'll be a trip he does once and never goes back. Beautiful campus, one of the most depressing areas I've ever been to.

Football expansion is more exciting than hockey expansion (mainly cause Yukon will be in the C-USA).

Have you been to Yale or Columbia? Many college towns blow, outside the college

Been to both. The best part of Yale is it's right near 95 so you can get the hell out, Columbia at least has the outlet of NY. Have you ever been to ND?

yes, pretty nice place. Its like walking back into 1950's America.... Which isnt a bad thing

The area around is not that bad at all right now. NYC real estate is very pricy and has caused pretty much all of Manhattan to be gentrified. Now if their campus was in the South Bronx you'd have an argument.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

I went on a road trip to Notre Dame 3 years ago. We were there for one day and one night, and I felt like I didn't really miss much by not being there longer. Obviously Chicago's awesome, but that's almost a two-hour drive. If you're planning on staying in or around South Bend, I think, as others have already said, you'll find yourself not being particularly eager to make the trip every two years.

opinions vary...

Ever go to an airport after a ND game? Thousands travel every weekend and love it.

I can offer great suggestions for some small area museums and house tours, great restaurants, some with local musicians, and parks and gardens nearby, some with outdoor rinks.
