Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Let's be honest, if the deal is the majority of ND home conference games--regardless of opponent, the biggest beneficiary is unequivocally Notre Dame.

as it always is.........i think i'm becoming ill

Which is why the NCHC didn't give into ND's demands. Enjoy!

The NBC guy did let this slip during his spiel: They are looking forward to broadcasting Notre Dame games AND "Hockey East games" - he did not say "college hockey" in general.

The # of college hockey games on NBC Sports before today: 0
The # of Hockey East games on NBC Sports when ND comes aboard: At least 13, probably more (I'm guessing 20 a season)
Oh, and probably the Hockey East playoffs...

Guess who the loser was today...

Depends on the terms of the deal... could be everyone not in Hockey East.. or could be everyone but Notre Dame.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Considering NBC still has an NHL contract, it would not surprise me if Friday is a college game, and then Saturday is a NHL game. Either that, or similar to ESPNU, they go for a Sunday game (although I think ESPNU does that because of that other college sport being played on Saturday).

This was my theory all along despite the numerous people who didn't believe it or denied it would happen.

I'm not following this. I mean, sure, you can say any team that shows up on national TV benefits, but it doesn't even compare to the advantage ND will get.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

Will be interesting to see how many of the BC crowd that come to Tsongas suddenly become ND fans :D

Not sure how I feel about this move.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

'splain??

BC/Lowell games at Tsongas have a bunch of people with BC shirts, hats, etc. From my perspective I don't think any of them have set foot in Chestnut Hill. Just wondering if those same people will switch to ND. It was a post made in jest with a touch of reality.

Just traded some texts with a friend of mine who went to UMass-Amherst. This move by Bertagna could signal the end of Lowell, Merrimack and maybe Providence in Hockey East in the not to distant future.

Reading between some lines, I suspect that ND was more of a fan of the HEA's proposed shorter non-conference schedule than the NCHC's likely 28-game conference schedule. Swarbrick talked about travel and maintaining rivalries with the teams that are BTHC-bound. I'm not sure how much of a role that played in the decision, but it appears to me to have mattered.

Re: Hockey East 2011 - 2012 :

I may be wrong but I think he was referring to people who root for BC who may have an affiliation with the school and are just casual sports fans.

Are there any college hockey fans that don't have an affiliation to a school?

I hope that you're wrong, but having another big fish in the pool will decrease the chances of small or mid powers from having breakout years and winning home ice or the tourney.

No, the Irish are set to be very big winners. However Hockey East will benefit from this deal and a certain other conference, which shall remain nameless but were counting on a national TV deal for relevancy, won't. :)

I was alluding to a "power" conference in the not to distant future that leaves Lowell, Merrimack, maybe Providence and UMass looking to join Atlantic Hockey or start a new league.

Lowell and Providence are founding members of Hockey East. Merrimack has been around since 1988 or 1989? Vermont and UMass? Who cares lol!

Now you are just being foolish

I know you are being sarcastic but do you really think UVM would be invited to be part of a "power" conference if BC, BU, ND, etc wanted to leave?

I'm not worried right now but I don't want to be going to a Lowell game in 5 years and getting excited for a game against AIC. No offense to the AIC fan on USCHO.
