Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Nyquist is a stud who stepped up when the chips were on the table. I guess if you could tell me any game Hutton won that had any significance, I'd be more understanding. He was a bright spot on a poor team, but that's about it. I dont think he wins a national title if he played on BC because there's no evidence that he is mentally strong enough to take his game to the next level in a big game.

There's a long line of goalies who ripped it up in the regular season only to melt down in the NCAAs (insert name of UNH goalie here).

If only the original statement had been Hutton is the guy from HE that I want in net in the NC game.

Alas, the statement had to do with the entire year, ..." the best tandem in HE last YEAR"

You can't call anything the best if they never succeeded in a big game. It's really not that difficult to understand. They didn't even get home ice for cripesakes.

You can't? So if Ray Bourque never went to Colorado and won the cup then he wouldn't be in the running for one of the best defensemen ever?

Carl Yastrzemski I suppose isn't nearly as good as say Jose Canseco because Yaz never won a world series ring and Canseco did?

Sorry chief but I guess we are just gonna have to agree to disagree. I don't think post season success is the ONLY measure of how good an athelete is, especially on a team sport.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Ugliest single ever, I was rolling on the floor laughing when he hit that though, that spelled the end of Rocktober right there. Don't forget Derek Lowe on that list! Memory serves me right he won every clinching game in '04, there's something to be said for that. He's still putting up decent numbers, I was a fan of home the sox dumped house after that season, but I wish Lowe could have stayed.

The list is Red Sox pitchers who recorded a win and 2 RBI in the same postseason game. As noted, Lester got the W in the clinching game. Daisuke pitched game 3.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with jcarter.

i haven't said anything in this discussion other than to debunk the myth that Muse was an inconsistent playoff performer. one of the reasons i have stayed away is that Muse has relatively average regular seasons that typically wouldn't wow you. of course, Muse has some intangible aspects like a) played every single minute as a freshman, b) played hurt for a majority of the time his 2nd season, c) recovered from injury well before expected, d) wasn't coked up... but i digress. so for a time, i was giving your rantings the benefit of the doubt, as I dont see Hutton too often because Lowell is a team that i will not pay to watch play. But after looking at the numbers, i have to say that again, you are wrong.

Because, its easy to look at the stats and say that Hutton is a good goaltender who had his best season, an AIDS monkey could click the stats page and tell you that. but i'm not going to say that Hutton and Hamilton comprise some unstoppable duo when Hamilton's stats are the worst of the 4 goalies in question. Hutton's (2.04/.928) season isn't far and away better than Muse (2.40/.910) or Milner (2.32/.909) for that matter to make up for Hamilton (2.90/.905) overall

Further, looking at only HE play is even more telling. This provides a more equal comparison because they played the same opponents. Not to mention Lowell's never ending season (39 games) was filled with dreadful OOC opponents --> @UNO (20-16-2), Colgate (15-15-2), and Holy cross (12-19-6), and 2 with both UAH (12-16-3) and Princeton (12-16-3); really? Also had games with stl, nu and Maine (all common opps). Not that BC's was much better (42 games), playing awful Clarkson and having to get stuck with woeful Harvard for two; but at least they included games against @Denver, BU, and @ND. Lest you forget, also baked into the overall stats for BC are the NCAA games with Wisco, Miami, UAF, and Yale, as well as, the HE tournament (more common opponents).

regardless, stripping away all the OOC games, which stats would you pick?

1.93 .921
2.27 .912

or

2.35 .920
3.09 .902

you can click here if you dont know who is who. so even ignoring the playoffs (which Lowell fans have become adept at), i give it a push - at best.

You can't call anything the best if they never succeeded in a big game. It's really not that difficult to understand.

Ted Williams World Series stats: 5-25, .200 batting average, 2 R, 1 RBI, 0 extra base hits, 5 K, .200 Slugging Percentage, 0 rings.

I guess, contrary to popular belief, he isn't the greatest hitter to ever live.

The key word in this debate is tandem. I'd take Muse out of any of the four goalies in the discussion. I don't think anyone would disagree with that. However, based one what they've done right now, it's not farfetched to say that together Hutton and Hamilton are a better combination than Muse and Milner.

Thank you for understanding the point.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

you are an idiot.

I'm not the one that keeps changing the parameters to argue my point. I made a single statement that you changed to argue your side. Hey I agree with you, Muse and Milner did better against HE teams, but that wasn't the original statement.

And don't be so dam sensitive. Geez... there is no reason to start name calling.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Just wondering something to all who think Muse and Milner have to be the best tandem because they won the national championship...

What if they played for Lowell last year and didn't win a national championship. Does that mean they're no longer the best tandem? Doesn't make sense to me. Either you're the best tandem or your not the best tandem. Shouldn't depend on whether your team wins a title or not, should it?

Because BC won the national championship, does that mean that they had the best first line? Did they have the best second line? Did they have the best power play? The best penalty kill? The best coach? The best center? The best left winger? The best fans? The best equipment manager? The best rink? The best alumni from the mathematics department?

"They" is Muse. It is not a tandem. It is the Muse show..... If we want to start a thread on best backups fine, but this is no snow/dunham duet here

Except the original point made was that Hutton and Hamilton were the best TANDEM. The argument became Muse and Milner were better. The comments on the thread are about tandem, not the best goalie.
