Hockey East 2010-2011

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Based on the arguements presented so far, the edge in goaltending last year went to Hutton IMO. Stats aside, BC had a better defense, even though they were younger, had a much better offense, which carried the play for the majority of the year. Which led to less pressure on the defense and Muse on a game by game basis.

So in that case, it really shouldn't matter who is the goalie for Maine next year, then, right? I mean, if its all about the guys up front, anyone should suffice. Needless to say, Muse is the most disrespected goalie in the NCAA right now.

ps- How come Schneider couldn't win it all at BC then? He was a much "better" statistically than Muse and had pretty much the same team in 2007 as Muse did in 2008. Maybe there's something more than just stats to judge someone by.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

So Hutton is "better" but in a big game, you'd pick Muse? Makes sense to me...

Hutton is unproven. Makes perfect sense to me...on a one a done why take the chance on an unproven goaltender if you can put in a goalie that may be a tiny notch below but has shown himself to have the poise and confidence in big games?

If Hutton had the post season experience that Muse has had and shown he was capable of playing in the post season at the level he plays in the regular season it would be a different story.

Make sense?

Because its a "team" sport. A great offense can pick up the slack for a poor defense or shoddy goaltending to some degree just the same as a great goaltender can make up for a lack of offense.

look at UVM's first year in HE. Fallon kept them as a middle of the pack team because they were able to win 2-1, 1-0 games. They weren't piling on the offense but because Joe was a great goaltender they were able to have some success instead of fighting to make the playoffs.

You seem to be taking this really personally. Muse is a top tier goalie, no one is disrespecting him.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

How many Grade As did Muse face in the title game? I don't remember it as being many, especially early

If Muse is disrespected its because he is a part of a great team, its not him winning every game, its him helping to win every game. The guy has 2 rings, what does he need to prove?

I think you understand my point and my opinion. I think you just like to argue with jcarter more than anything.

Michigan St was knocked off by ND so Muse didn't have to face them in 2008 NC game?

unrelated to anything but Schneider played really well in those 2 final games (2006/2007) especially against Wisconsin but it's tough to win when the team scores 1 goal in each of those two games

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

You guys can't be seriously bashing Hutton. The guy gave up 4 goals to BC all season, making 30+ saves in 2 of the contests (one win and one loss). I remember thinking he was the best opposing goalie I had seen all season in the game at BC because it seemed like the guy was going to steal yet another game from us for Lowell. He was one of the major reasons why Lowell was even sniffing home ice and a chance at the Garden last season. His offense didn't exactly give him a chance to play in big games either, so you can't hold that against him. You also can't bash Hutton/Hamilton (whoever it was that started) for allowing only 1 goal to that stacked BU team in '09 and for Hockey East making a new rule that banned Lowell from scoring any goals in the Championship Game.

That being said, I'd rather have Muse than Hutton, mostly because I'm a BC fan and the guy has a postseason resumé that speaks for itself. It's not absolutely crazy if someone decides they'd rather have Hutton, since he's proven that he can step up when his team needs him to as well.

Also with the point about Schneider not winning a national title...his team scored exactly 2 goals for him in his 2 national title game appearances. Not to say Muse hasn't played great in the postseason, but he definitely did get a lot more help offensively than Schneider did in his title games, so it's hard to compare those two.

i agree with all of this

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I would just like to add that Boston College played a very fast-paced style of hockey that resulted in a lot of grade-A transition chances, and that Lowell played - no exaggeration - the most boring style of hockey I've ever seen (which was admittedly effective) but was very defensive in nature and probably resulted in a higher percentage of low quality shots.

I would also like to add that this argument is pointless (as most great forum discussions are), as Muse and Hutton are both awesome.

I just hate Hutton because his name does not work well with the "[goalie] [goalie] [goalie] you suck" chant. Hard T? Soft T? Both sound terrible. What a jerk.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

You can tell its summertime and nothing is going on when some drunk says they would rather have Hutton than Muse. If Hutton were some statistical Superman then this would be a classic "Manning vs. Brady"-type argument. In my opinion, I want the guy with the postseason success and not the guy who somehow ended up at the 'other' UMass school.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I know most BC fans want us all to bow down and worship at the altar of the eagle, but come on.

Even if we were the biggest Eagle haters on the planet, there are three newish National Title banners in Conte Forum. I mean really. Why would you care after that?

Relax, we are well aware of your awesomeness.

Exactly. Hutton had a great year, and got no offensive support whatsoever. I can't disagree about Lowell's offensive style, but unfortunately, the forwards just didn't step up as many of us had hoped/expected last year.
