Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I can't believe how much I'm agreeing with you lately.

There's something seriously wrong with one of us.

I'm in the same boat, Jon. Maybe there's something wrong with both of us (at least you, since... ya know, you love reading the blog for the pictures!).

We've known that there is something wrong with me since that home game against Merrimack in the fall of 1995...

The return of the Big Four:D Now, if they can all get to the Garden for the HE semi's........ that will mean the return of a sold out Garden which after the last few years would be nice...........and loud

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Seeing first-hand how well Lowell played against eventual NCAA Champ BC, I'm puzzled as to why people have the Riverhawks so low on the list. Is it because they'll be losing a lot of players?

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

They are losing eleven players from last year's team, which equates to over 50% of their scoring (Falite, Auger, Holmstrom, Shaus, Dehner, Worthington)...

I think the toughest challenge they will need to overcome is losing goalies Nevin Hamilton and Carter Hutton who kept that team in every game over the past two seasons.

Lowell lost pretty much their entire team from last year. Without Hutton, they are going to get torched. Personally, I'm surprised that BU is as high on that list. They've got some kids returning, but the losses of Shattenkirk, Cohen, and Bonino (not to mention the loss of Saponari) are big. I think they are on the wrong side of the home-ice teams next year. I'll go:

BC
Maine
UVM
UNH
-------
BU

(the rest are meh)

I agree:eek: with pretty much all of it. Although I do think that ME becomes a bit of a question mark without Darling. But they will still be strong. UML graduated almost the whole team along with the best goaltending tandem in the league. They should thank PC and UMA now for giving them a shot at making the post season.

For Lowell it will come down to defense and goaltending. If they can get solid play in their own zone they may surprise a few folks.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Hmmmm... you know jc... A top rookie goaltender and a 2-time NCAA champ might be inclined to disagree with you.

Nick while Muse and Milner have certainly had more success they have also had a better supporting cast. I mean BC's goaltending no disrespect. But as has been put forth already Hutton and Hamilton put up the numbers on a much less talented team and kept them in games.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no UML fan...not in the least, but I do have to give those two props. They kept UML in it for the 4 years they were there, and despite a disappointing season last year for the Riverhawks, they did their part.

But they have moved on, so the new title of Best Tandem in HE, goes to Muse and Milner no question about it.

I have to agree with that. With all of the talent that BC has it definitely makes Muse alot better of a goaltender. It is similar to how back in 08-09 Millan was great because BU had such a stacked team. Take away some of that talent and Millan comes down to earth.

Those are big losses. I think BU underachieved last year though. I think they will step it up this year and another strong recruiting class won't hurt.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I've been saying all offseason that I see BC one; Maine two; then a pile-up of BU, UNH, Merrimack, UVM and NU battling for the last two home-ice spots; then UML, UMass and PC battling for the final playoff spot.

Of that middle group, I actually like what Merrimack has coming back the most. But I think BU has the most upside of that group. A lot of underachieving last year, and they bring in the best recruiting class in the conference. UNH just always finds a way to be near the top. I think I see those three finishing 3-5 in some order and then UVM and NU 6th and 7th.

While I think MC will win some games and be out of the cellar, I don't see them in top 4. De Costa is awesome and now every team knows it. I don't think you will see an increase production from him as teams and coaches start zeroing in on him and MC just doesn't have the supporting cast that can carry the team when De Costa is being shut down. But that's JMO. I just think watching UMA that started out with Wellman et al going 10-6 through 2009, but when league play came around and teams were seeing them for the second time around, shutting down that line, they go 7-13. I see the same thing with MC, they will win but teams will focus on that line and shut them down in the end and they will be a middle of the pack team.

Ya what he said. All of it.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

And why won't BU underachieve again? That seems to be their MO year in and year out with the exception of 08/09 when Wilson and Gilroy stepped it up
