Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

it's like i hear voices in.my.head... :D

;)

with a little spark, any of those middle teams can make the a jump. heck, i know it's the scarlet colored glasses with me - but if the goalies can play like they did two years ago i think bu can challenge a lazy bc team for 1st. the young dmen will improve and at least in front of the net they will benefit from ccohen leaving early. now granted, that's a big IF... but nevertheless the kind of if that can happen to one team to let them separate from the pack.

Yeah..... I cant sell the ratdawgs short, ever. Chit, if Jackie needs to he can always send one of his goalies off to net lifting skool. :D

Agreed, The Warriors' biggest problem was playing on the road. If they can grab a few wins early they'll be in good shape, Lawler is kind of a "sleeper" arena. Doesn't seem like a tough place to play but then again its home team boasted the best home record in the nation :)

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

no problem with any of your picks as i think any one team was only one slot off at most. looks pretty good to me with Maine at #2 and BC #1. And of course we all know someone will surprise and someone will disappoint...that part's just hard to predict.

Federal League, thank you for mentioning UNH's recruiting class. I was wondering when their violations were going to come into effect. Will it also effect next year's recruiting class, or was it mainly this one?

They were not allowed to have any further communication with their top 20 targets, right?

There were 30 players they weren't allowed to have any further communication with, and none of those 30 were allowed to sign an LOI with them. They're on probation through the end of this season. They were also only allowed to have one coach recruiting off campus at a time for part of last season, but that's over now. This is the first year any of those 30 players would've been on campus, though. It's kind of impossible to tell how long this will affect them for, but I'd guess at least two or three more years.

admitting ignorance on the subject, but the penalties seem rather harsh .......though i don't know how serious the violations are if that makes any sense:eek: did UNH get the screws put to them or are the sanctions/penalties fair??

I'm not sure how fair the sanctions are, but hopefully this adds more color to the actual violations...

According to the NCAA:

"The UNH hockey program has been placed on two-year’s probation by the NCAA due to 923 impermissible e-mails being sent to 30 different prospective players during the 2007-08 season.... an associate head coach sent all of the e-mails using a recruiting software program that allowed the associate head coach to send an e-mail message to multiple prospects through one computer keystroke. Thirty prospective student-athletes received impermissible recruiting contacts from the university prior to June 15 following the conclusion of their freshman or sophomore years in high school."

Here was the explanation by UNH Athletics and Dick Umile:

Carrie Doyle, UNH’s senior associate athletic director for NCAA compliance, spoke with the Union Leader today about the university’s probation and recruiting restrictions handed down by the NCAA on Thursday.

“The violations were very focused and very limited,” said Doyle, who previously worked for seven years as an investigator for the NCAA. “Generally speaking, (probation) means it is a time period where the university is under heightened scrutiny by the NCAA and we’ll be monitoring closely what is happening with additional reports.”

According to Doyle, it was UNH associate head coach Scott Borek who sent the 923 impermissible e-mails to prospective players.

Added head coach Dick Umile, “It was an honest mistake. Probation means we can’t make another mistake. We self-reported when we realized a mistake had been made with the scouting software. Hopefully this sort of thing will not happen again.”

thanks, i guess Umile deserves a mulligan but if what FL says is true that it affects them for 2-3 more years, then i think it's rather severe...........think college football

Just to be clear, there aren't any 2-3 year sanctions. I was saying it would affect them for 2-3 years because that's probably the time frame any of those 30 players would've been arriving on campus. There shouldn't be any effects on recruiting from here on out, but they might've been able to land 5-10 of those 30 recruits for the next couple seasons, and now they can't.

BC had a better home record than Merrimack...
