Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

I'm excited to see whether or not he gives the Mack home ice or puts them in 5th, from what I can figure it's probably going to be BU and MC fighting for that last home ice spot...which means they'll probably end up playing each other in the first round of HE playoffs again...whoever gets home ice is going to have a huge advantage there.

MC was able to take one game at Agganis, but I'm willing to make the argument that they probably would have taken 2 out of 3 if they played at Lawler...I wouldn't expect anything different this year.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

There's no way I'd put Mack above UVM in any universe at this time.

I think 4-6 in Hockey East will all be within about 3 points, so I think MC has a halfway decent chance of getting 4-5th and ahead of UVM.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

I'd widen that grouping.

Bc is clearly 1 (and if they wanted to split and skate a second team they'd be #2) :p

Maine is 2

3-7 in some scramble is uhn, uvm, nu, mc, & bu.

8-10 is pc, chiefs, and umass.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

Your all getting carried away with MC being on par with UNH

They were still a sub par 500 team and lost in first round of playoffs.

They will finish 5th thru 7th if Cannata is solid+, which I assume he will be.

BC
ME(wild card because of goalie situation)
UNH
BU
MC
PC
UVM
NU
UML
UMA

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

After months of thinking about this on and off and coming back to it a few times, the only two spots I was still debating in the end were 2-3 and 4-5.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

No one is arguing that MC is on par with UNH, just that it's difficult to place the 3-7 teams exactly because they all have talent and anything can happen in college hockey.

You're taking Mookie's point of 3-7 being some combination of UNH, UVM, NU, MC and BU to mean that MC is "on par with UNH". That's not what he's saying. I assume what Mookie was driving at was the point that Hockey East has tremendous parity this year...especially the middle 5 teams or so and it is difficult to place them and that it's not completely unreasonable to have MC as high as 3rd/4th or as low as 7th.

I agree

No one though will have a real good feel for it until Thanksgiving. Last year everyone had Maine folding the program and now they are top 2 again. Without a goalie etc. Lot of new faces that might kick in come January and some returners who worked hard all summer on and off the ice and will be impacts

That's going a bit far. Placing TIMMAY! Whithead on an iceflow in the Bering Strait, yes. Folding Maine hockey? Never.

it's like i hear voices in.my.head... :D

;)

with a little spark, any of those middle teams can make the a jump. heck, i know it's the scarlet colored glasses with me - but if the goalies can play like they did two years ago i think bu can challenge a lazy bc team for 1st. the young dmen will improve and at least in front of the net they will benefit from ccohen leaving early. now granted, that's a big IF... but nevertheless the kind of if that can happen to one team to let them separate from the pack.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011: The Quickening

I'm not surprised to see UVM placed 6th given the hype around the programs ahead of them.

However I don't see UVM finishing as low as 6th. I think they very quietly have a real nice team with a lot of depth, strength in the most critical areas, and a heck of a lot of upside up front.

More specifically, they are very young up and admittedly don't bring a lot of scoring back. However they add a very talented trio of forwards in Brickley, Lenz and arguable Herrington to add to the mix, likely producing considerably more than last years batch of new forwards.

McCarthy and Pacan both were accelerated last year - McCarthy to steal from BC when BC asked him to play another year of JR's and Pacan to take the spot vacated by V. Stalberg early departure. They will both be more ready for the D1 game this year, faster, stronger. They should contribute significantly more. Ditto with S. Stalberg who had a very strong second half.

Burrows moves up front where he was very solid once that expirement began.

While the forwards do not have good numbers from last year I think they have the most depth they have ever had under Sneddon and they have nine guys that can score giving them three legitimate scoring lines. They will do it by committee with a bunch of guys. Marshall is a wild card, I'm not banking on anything but he could surprise to the upside.

The D is very big and very experienced. They will be a force this year. Add a freshman PP QB to the group and they become two dimensional finally.

Lastly, Madore will be pressured by Vazzano JR and that should elevate the goaltending this season. I see a rotation early, Vazzano is a good recruit.

I think they are right in the mix for home ice.

I think the coaches poll will be interesting, can you have a four way tie for third?

as i stated before with regard to BU, i completely agree with this............in fact it is more likely than not IMO that the Terriers will be , well, BU:eek:

Does anyone know when the Hockey East Media day is?
Wednesday, September 29...more than likely the Coaches Poll will be out then as well.

Also, the USCHO preseason poll will likely be Monday, October 4.

Yes, the coaches poll will be released at Media Day. They'll also present the Joe Concannon Media Award. Really, though, I'm just excited about the food.

Looks like one of the student radio stations is doing a poll (click here), and I've heard that there will be one done by all of the Hockey East media as well:
