What Record of Miller's Got broken? Career Saves percentage (.941) or Career Shutouts (26)?

or was it one of these CCHA records?

CCHA GAA of 1.23. I guess tied the Sv% of .950.

Re: Hobey

Aint ballot stuffing great?

Us Mainuhs dont believe in it.....let the players do the talking on the ice and Gustav Nyquist is walking away with the national scoring title playing in a real league. He's a Hobey slam dunk at this point imo. ;)He's also a great defensive player very important to his team.

Three reasons not (yet):

He's a sophomore (so not a captain, but not really his fault).
Not in top 10 in goals; his ppg is huge, and he's a beast with the puck, but the leaders in goal scoring will get more headlines.
Not just UNH bias (okay a little bias) but Bobby's contributions off the ice are hard to beat, along with his goal scoring; 2nd in the country, with fewer games played than the other leaders (in a league with better goaltending? haven't checked stats).

IF the Swede stays all four years and plays at this level, he'll be a lock for Hoeby his Senior year. Probably even next year.

Not Impossible.... Ducan won it in his Sophomore year

"It is uncommon for a collegiate player in only his sophomore season to be nominated to receive the Hobey Baker Award, and rarer still to claim the prize. North Dakota forward Ryan Duncan became only the third sophomore player in the 27 years of the Hobey to be recognized as college hockey’s top player."

Than again this was Ducan's Stats that year- "scored 31 goals, second best in the nation, and had 26 assists for 57 points planting him fourth in the nation in scoring."

Also got another little thing, After reading about this kid it says he made the WCHA all-academic team with a 3.20, which is solid for a student athlete, but that doesn't even make the dean's list at most schools! Is this the typical GPA for All-Academic?

Re: Hobey

I guess I am just thinking if a 3.2 is all academic in the WCHA then wow, I would at least think it would be 3.5 or around there!

For the correct answers to your incorrect observations, see Kariya, Paul :D

Nyquist's GPA is ridiculously high also....3.85 ?? Show me a better college hawkey player in the country right now. ;) It truly is his to lose.

As I recall there was some freshman years ago form Maine that won...what's his name??;) :D Nyquist is the most talented kid in Hockey east. He is elite and deserves to win it this year.

Re: Hobey

I agree that is nothing extraordinary.

But I guess a 3.0 or higher is considered good enough!
here is the CCHA's

http://www.uscho.com/news/college-hockey/id,1414/CCHAAllAcademicTeamChosen#ixzz0h94Zh3WW

And the WCHA also said 3.0 or higher.

I know they are student athletes, but I was thinking a little higher would be expected for all-academic.

My sister played for soccer for Cincinnati and had 3.6 and didn't make all-academic in the CUSA, when they were in that conference

3.0 GPA is All-Academic in the WCHA. 3.5 GPA qualifies you as a WCHA Scholar Athlete.

I think for all of the major conferences, 3.0 is usually the requirement to be on the All-Academic Team.

Saying that, obviously some conference/schools are much more difficult to get a 3.0 in than others. :p:D:D

Re: Hobey

Any Hobey discussion that doesn't include Northern Michigan's Mark Olver is seriously lacking. The 5th leading scorer in the country, leader in the CCHA, among the national leaders in both goals and assists, 15 points in 8 February, scoring and setting up big goals down the stretch to help his team rally for a first round playoff bye AND being a pretty solid defensive forward as well. How he was left off the fan voting list, especially being a pre-season All-CCHA selection is baffling.

Nyquist is having a great year, but I think Denver's Marc Cheverie also seriously in the Hobey conversation. Chevy is literally carrying Denver to a top national ranking on his back. DU's offense is only 13th nationally but the team is ranked first nationally largely because Chevy is rocking a top national saves percentage of .938 against the toughest league competition. He's also second in GAA and first in shutouts, nationally. He is also a WCHA all-Academic team member. If Chevy were playing in Hockey East or the CCHA this year, he'd be a .945 goalie and the ECAC, he'd be a .950 goalie, and in the AHA or CHA, he'd probably be .955.

Both players are clearly important to their teams, but I don't think anyone has the inside track just yet.
