That's pure speculation and I wouldn't be so sure. He barely qualified for a school Ben Rothlisberger got into.

don't fight guys. we all <3 hockey! whoever wins they deserve it, and there's nothing us posters can do about it. An old southern man once told me "don't worry bout nothin' you can't do nothin' about." I think that applies to the 2011 Hobey Race :) :) :)

And I NEVER said you did. I was using Dickin as an example of a player who had a problem that at face value looked bad but wasn't actually in a bad situation. YOU should really heed your own advice, honey.

And "at the time, fans were speculating" is not factual. Arrest records? Factual.

Then why even bring up Dickin? He isn't in the running for the Hobey Baker, and probably never will be. If you are using Dickin, then I could just as easily bring up the thousands of wrongfully convicted people in the country and say "See...look at them...maybe Frattin or Atkinson was wrongfully convicted!!". It is a losing argument...honey.

As for Miele, it certainly looks like it was more than just the Clearinghouse taking longer than normal...

There were questions about which direction Miele would go, as the rumor was he wasn't able to get into college. The OHL's Plymouth Whalers sounded interested in his services, but Miele was finally college eligible, but not until January of 08.

It sounded like Miele was really considering Plymouth, but getting through clearinghouse changed that and he should be a huge asset for the Redhawks down the stretch.

At the end of the day, I don't really care one way or the other if Miele had academic issues. As I've said several times, I only care about what happened this year. I think Miele will win, and if he does he will be a great Hobey Baker winner. The committee, which is really the only body that matters in this, picked the right 3 candidates. They were the best three players in the top three conferences and all three deserve this honor.

FS 23, do you understand what the word rumor means? And I brought up Dickin because he had clearinghouse issues too. He isn't the first, but he's someone you'd be familiar with AND his issues weren't anything major. But if someone wanted to, they could try to discredit him by saying he had trouble getting through the NCAA clearinghouse. You should be embarrassed that I had to explain it to you.

Frattin is the only candidate that is a college student.

It is disgraceful to see how some atheletes drop out of school in the middle of the semester like that. Obviously they really do not value their college education that much or they would have stayed in school.

Dickin's issues have absolutely nothing to do with Miele's issues. If it makes you feel better to insult someone's intelligence rather than come up with a better argument, then I understand.

Anyway, I don't care anymore. Whoever wins the Hobey, they deserved it. The three individuals were the only three deserving of the award, so I'm glad the committee got that correct.

OK.... this is RIDICULOUS. All three of these guys are COLLEGE STUDENTS. I'm sure that both Cam and Andy made arrangements with their professors regarding their absence so they could go play pro hockey. They have not dropped out...( though Cam will not finish his degree at this time). TONS of players do this after their seasons. And I'm sure, considering they are high character individuals since they are Hobey candidates here, that they will return to finish their schoolwork when their prospective seasons are done.

Where does it say they dropped out of school? How do you know they didn't make arrangements with professors to keep up with work for the 2 weeks they're playing with the pros, or finished their degree requirements the previous term and weren't doing anything that mattered this semester, or are planning on coming back and finishing over the summer? Plenty of people miss time the semester before they graduate for med school interviews, job interviews, grad school visits, etc. This is no different.

1 Sioux fan. The first person to say it was ridiculous was a Sioux fan as well. And I think most will agree that it's an extremely idiotic post. Players (even Hobey candidates) sign when the season is done all the time.

This might be the stupidest post I've ever read. I don't know about the other kids/schools but I do know that many of those who have left Boston College early have come back to get their degree. I saw Nathan Gerbe and Nick Petrecki on campus last summer and Cam has indicated it is his intent to finish his degree as well. Kids leave school for many reasons. The opportunity to persue a lifelong dream with he possibility of making milions of dollars in the process seems to me to be an acceptable reason to interupt your education.
