Hobey Hat Trick

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

He said nothing about players.
He asked who here has never done that or had an urge to, well I haven't.
Wouldn't it be better for Frattin anyway if he didn't win it since most of the winners haven't exactly had stellar pro careers.

It's what he meant, but I'll accept your take as well.

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

FWIW, Miele had academic issues and couldn't get into college right away, and had to sit out a semester. If people are going to freak out about Frattin's issues in the past, then it should be noted that the other two candidates also had issues in the past.

You're really reaching here. I find it hilarious and yet so pitiful at the same time.

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

I think Frattin should drunk drive Atkinson around town to beat up kids who suck at school.

That's a silly arguement. It has about as much merit as someone saying a team shouldn't want to win the MacNaugton because its a jinx when it comes to winning the National Championship. :p

Struggling to get into college academically is in no way comparable to criminal behavior or getting kicked off a team. Miele's issue is comically minor compared to the ones faced by the other two finalists.

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

So the fact that Miele, who's IQ is obviously just above that of a popsicle stick, got into Miami sort of shoots a hole throught UMICH's theory that it's an awesome school, no?

Even if you were correctly interpreting the quote from Rico about Miele's "academic issue", this is still a pretty sad reach.

But by all means continue :)

I'm just saying.
If he wants a pro career, fear the Hobey. :)
And I'm just saying that's a silly arguement. Frattin's future as a pro will depend on his skills, physical attributes, work ethic, and how that all translates to the pro game. It will have nothing to do with whether or not he wins the Hobey.

On the flip side, awarding the Hobey has nothing to do with pro-potential. Some guys do very well in the college game, but don't have the right combo of skill set and physical gifts to do well at the pro level. Some of those guys have won the Hobey. Same thing happens with the Heisman. I don't hear people arguing that a player doesn't want to win the Heisman because it means they might not have such a great pro career.

Academics is one of the four main criteria. I'm not trying to "compare" it to anything. I'm merely stating that Miele has issues with one of the four core criteria, just like Atkinson and Frattin have issues with a different criteria. Again, this is all if you are looking at past results.

Personally, and this is important since people assume incorrectly that I think the other way, I think that the only thing that matters for this year's Hobey is this year's results. Miele's academic issues and Frattin and Atkinson's issues with the law should have no impact on this year's Hobey winner as they happened years ago. I've made it quite clear in my previous statements. I thought I made it VERY clear in this post...

I would never argue that Frattin (or Miele or Atkinson) should get extra credit for his issues. I look at the award as something that is based only on this year. All three candidates were solid in all core criteria this year. There are some though that want to look at past years, and if you do that, then you have to look at the issues with all three candidates, whether it happened two, three or four years ago.

Again, I feel that all three candidates are deserving of the award.

FWIW, I've already stated (several times) that Miele will win, and that he will have deserved to win, regardless of any issues with any of the candidates. He is simply one of the best players in college hockey.

Indeed, the academic issue could come down to simply the NCAA clearinghouse being annoying.

Is anyone questioning Taylor Dickin's eligibility because the NCAA clearinghouse wasted their time twiddling their thumbs before finally clearing him? No. So unless you know what the academic issue is, then shut up. We KNOW what Frattin and Atkinson's issues are.

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

I know what Miele's issue is. He's dumber than a 64 color box of Crayolas that has a broken crayon sharpener and 12 colors missing.

At the time, fans were speculating that he wasn't able to get through clearinghouse due to low test scores, and was strongly considering going the OHL route. I would consider that academic issues.

I have NEVER questioned Miele's eligibility. You should really think before you put words in people's mouths.
