HEA Mens 2022 Tournament Mega-Thread

UMass clearly the best team in the tournament. Northeastern will go as far as Levi takes them. He should win Player of the Year unanimously and be a Hobey finalist.

"Clearly?" You mean the UMass team that just lost twice to BC? Or the one that went 0-2-1 against BU?

Clearly is maybe a bit much true. I just think they have the best top gear if they get going. Anyone could win this tournament in the top half.

12-20 in Pairwise littered with HEA teams.

I don't see how UMass is clearly the best team. They have one line and just got swept by BC. This thing is totally up for grabs.

BC escaped against UMass, margin was razor thin. That said there are at least 4 teams that will be really tough to beat, Umass, NU,BU and BC. I think the Mac and Uconn are pretenders. BTW, best sports value in town, $10 ticket to BC/UNH and free parking. Concessions are cheaper than the Garden but that is not saying too much. Should be a good atmosphere.

Funny how you completely left Lowell out of that conversation. You know, the team that swept BU and BC, and took 2 out of 3 from NU this season.

You are right I did leave them out I guess I don't think they are much of a threat, maybe not pretenders but not real contenders, but that is why they make you play the game. Sweeping BC and BU was not all that impressive when BU couldn't beat anyone and BC was without its 3 best players for one of those games. Actually I would love it if VT and Maine were to win, reseeding would put BC up against UML, I would take that game any day.

I have a feeling no team wants to play BC.

Been saying since January, and I’ll repeat here. BC will be at the Garden. Playing. Not, you know, watching.

While I believe that BC will beat UNH, if the other higher seeds win, they'll play NU and Devon Levi. That's a tall order. Eagles goaltending is still a big question mark. Dop has been better, but does that hold up? UML are pretenders? Owen Savory gets no pub, but he is 15-5-1 with a 1.8 GAA and .93 SV%. No "pretending" there.

Savory is the main reason Lowell is where they are at! There have been numerous times the defense has hung him out to dry but hes still comes up big. Now if Lowell get lee, berglund, and chambers back together...teams are in trouble. I also like condotta, crasa, and ak together too. Just gotta keep the dmen outta the box and we'll be fine.

Does anyone think this tournament will have as much interest in the Beanpot from a ticket availability perspective?

I'm guessing it would depend upon which four teams actually get to the Garden. If it's, say, (no disrespect to anyone intended) Merrimack, UConn, Providence and someone else, I would think the numbers would be lower than usual, simply because of proximity reasons. But also, many fans who are not close to the Garden (like BU, BC, NU would be, for example) might be saving resources for future potential games (NCAA). Especially given that it now takes $100 to fill my wife's gas tank when it was $60 about a month ago...

I think people are underselling the UConn crowd. They have never won a HE tournament game. Getting to the Garden would be huge. The only problem could be men's and women's hoops both being in the NCAA tournament if that's when it starts.

Best case scenario for attendance probably relies on non Beanpot schools who haven't been to Garden in a couple years now. I think a UMass, UML, UConn field would draw well.

You can still buy 3rd row seats at center ice and seats on the glass are available in some sections. The club seats are usually sold out online within days of going on sale. I have to go through my friend in the ticket office to get them. Several of those remain available ($63 with fees, not bad for a Friday night double header)

Depends. Connecticut is the most insane college basketball state in the country (and no, I didn't forget North Carolina). It started in the 50s with Hill House (24 state championships, the first of which was in 1924) in New Haven and has never abated. You can't be in two places at once (we're talking about actual attendance...not just watching on TV), so 99% of people, given a choice, will be at the basketball venue. If they can't get there, they will be watching on TV. I went to the NCAA first round at the Harford Civic Center (or whatever they call it now...it was the Civic Center then) back when Mike Jarvis was coaching BU (and Jeff Timberlake was the star point guard)...there were 17,000 UConn crazies and about 100 BU fans. I've seen UConn in other parts of the country...I lived in Connecticut for a brief time and EVERYWHERE you go there are posters, t-shirts, store coupons, deals; it's just ALL UConn basketball. And they will definitely be in the NCAAs because they're 22-8 and the #3 seed in the Big East. That tournament begins the same weekend as the Hockey East Finals at the Garden. I'm sure there are "hard core" UConn hockey fans, but I'd be greatly surprised if you see a large # of them there. Just my opinion...

Starting this season, the NCAA has added a day off before the regional finals. That's potentially an extra day of expenses for some folks.
