HEA Mens 2022 Tournament Mega-Thread

UConn vs Northeastern at 4PM
I guarantee the Huskies win this one.

UMass-Lowell vs UMass-Amherst at 7:30 (or whenever overtime of the first game finally ends)
Winner gets to fill my twitter timeline with "Flagship!" for the next 6 months.

I logged into my TD Garden account and saw tickets in the suites for only $100 for Friday. Tempting.

Gotta think attendance should be pretty solid from all 4 schools. If I'm worried about anyone, it's actually my Huskies with students on break.

I thought the best attendance would be a UMass, UConn, UML combo. Throw in one of NU/BC/BU and it should be pretty good. UConn the real wild card as this is new for them but they will be in basketball tournament too.

UML might have more fans in the stands but 2 UMA fans are wearing stripes and so far they have tipped the balance.

UConn vs. UMass on a Saturday night. Good luck to the TD Garden staff dealing with a large number of mouthbreathers.

we were beaten by the better team, but I don't want them to be the better team. Our system seems to work when you can make the other team break. We don't have enough talent to make UMass break.

I don't see a lot of HE games, but I did see UMass vs. Lowell. Is that typical HE refereeing? Cuz those guys didn't call anything. They paid 2 guys to just skate around for an hour.

HE refs have no problem calling penalties but they can swallow the whistle in games like this. They won't call a lot tomorrow either. Whether that's good or bad I don't know.

The pairwise implications:

13 Lowell
14 Northeastern
15 Ohio State

If one of Bemidji State, UConn or Harvard win, Ohio State is eliminated.
If two win, Northeastern is also eliminated.
If the parlay hits, all three are eliminated.

UMass will be the 3 seed - it looks like Albany because of the glut of NCHC 2 seeds and St Cloud at 3.

If you want to see championship games decided by ticky-tack calls, you need to watch more bouncyball. Personally, I'm fine with the penalty standard that came in with the Metcalf regime: Call the flagrant/injury potential stuff and things that unfairly affect possession or scoring chances and let the players take it from there. Appropriate and realistic for this skill level, IMO

Remember, it's only a few years ago that HEA referees were regarded as "mother hens" who whistled way too much marginal stuff.
