Gun control 2 : happy 25th anniversary of Columbine

This is a news report from Mesa, AZ, about a car crash. My wife’s friend from college (calling her F after this) owns the minivan that was hit by the car here. From what F tells my wife, the news left out the part where the car that hit her van was coming up the freeway exit at cruising speeds. The female passenger in the car was severely intoxicated, had soiled herself, and one side of the car had more than one bullet hole in it.

As F was dealing with the driver of the car that hit her, a big guy in a truck pulled up next tot the car. The truck guy went to grab the woman from the car, picked her up like she was a small child, and started to walk away with her. F, a very strong-willed, no BS woman, stops him by being firm that he’s not taking her anywhere. He eventually puts the woman down and leaves the scene. As the guy was exiting the truck, some spent bullet shells fell to the ground, which F only noticed after the truck left. The driver of the car that hit F tells her that the big guy was chasing the car, and apparently hit his target at least twice.

Not all of this ended up in the news report.

Some incident at Phoenix’s Airport. Possibly a shooting, possibly a stabbing.

Read the Comments.

Oh even better:

In what Reeson described as a “completely unrelated” incident nearly two hours after the shooting, she said a man showed up at the airport with guns. “This man received a text message that he believed there was an active shooter at Sky Harbor, Reeson said.

Investigators say the man handed his guns to other people at the airport before approaching an officer, yelled at the officer and didn’t follow his commands to stop, according to police. The officer took the man to the ground. During the struggle, he spat on an officer, police said.

Fuck. I’m traveling to that cesspool of a state late next month. Why do the crazies and homocidally inclined idiots have to live where my wife wants to travel?

Well, this is odd news. I see the SCOTUS upheld a regulation on ghost guns.

I seem to recall a few years ago, in one of the myriad debates about guns here in Cafe, that when asked what I would do, I suggested that gun control advocates take a page from the abortion opponents playbook and repeatedly pass various regulations or laws attempting to chip away at the constitutional protection that was recognized in prior decisions.

My suggestion was roundly ridiculed, with the most popular argument suggesting the SCOTUS would just use those cases to further strengthen the law in favor of gun owners.

Interesting.

For the guy who absolutely hates politicians who congratulate themselves for allegedly accomplishing nothing with watered-down compromise bills, you sure seem to like congratulating yourself, Hovey.

That said, your thought process is still wrong with this Supreme Court. I probably mocked you then, and I’ll mock you now…if you think that this narrow ruling, after how many in a row against gun restrictions, signals a shift by this SCOTUS on gun rights in general…well…you’re a lot dumber than I estimated.

They just struck down a ban on bump stocks last year…were you congratulating us for being right then? I, uh, doubt it.
