Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Young sales folk and older self possessed "I think I have a lot of charm' guys grind my gears. Went to Best Buy to P/U lil's phone which had been sent out. Girl #1 asked me if I needed help and we told her why we were there. She went to get the keys and this pompous looking GQ wanna be (a little too plump, with the quaffed hair, 'right jeans', 'right jacket' with a booming, jolly voice) says something about how she sold him the phone. Girl #2 was helping him. He then proceded to square out against Girl #2, effectively blocking her and engaging Girl #1 who is supposed to be helping me. The girl just forgets she was helping us. Girl #2 turns, sees me with my mouth hanging and asks if anyone is helping me. I say rather loudly,"well, I thought so but, apparently not." She wades between the 2 of them, the guy does not want to disengage but she persists and he turns back to her. Girl #1 belatedly recalls that she was supposed to be helping us. She starts the process of reloading all the stuff back on the phone when GQ boy strolls back over, apparently cannot see me and engages again asking for something. She stops doing stuff for us and goes and fetches what he wants. I was steamed. I said to Lil something to the effect that it might be nice to be so important that one can't wait and a comment that this is 2ce she has ignored us. She hears, hands him the stuff and starts work on Lil's phone again. He continued with a barage of chatty questions. Not once did she tell him to wait. It was like we were invisible. I was pizzed. COuld see if she was good looking or charming but she had the personality of a cold fish and was not a stunner. She didn't seem to be interested in him, just no clue how to focus on someone who wasn't rude and demanding her attention.

THen went to the itouch section and couldn't find a soul to help us. 3 different people weren't from that section and called for someone to help. The guy came, another guy caught him right before he got to us and poof he was gone. I felt like I was in Harry Potter and had an invisibility cloak. Usually I love BB but if that was my first experience I would never go back.

Last year before my trip I went to Best Buy to get a camera...usually I cant go two seconds without some 17 year old asking me if I need help but not this day. I stood in front of the camera I wanted, made eye contact with the workers...etc and they all ignored me. I was getting steamed, then the one guy closest to me was finishing up and he was looking right at me so I was finally going to get the camera. Then, an 18 year old walks into the section and bam I am done like dinner. I walked out and only went back a few days later because I comparison shopped at a few places (even overrated spots like National Camera and Video) and BB had the best price BY FAR.

Funny thing is, originally I was going to get a much better and more expensive camera, but the longer they made me wait the more I thought about it and the more I talked myself into something cheaper.

National Camera matches prices.

Good thing you want your cheap stuff so cheap that you are willing to tolerate that. Now I'll have to deal with that- thanks. ;)

Hearing [insert current top 40 song] for the fifth time at work in one day.

One of the technicians is here working on filling out paperwork, filing, and keeping up with tasks for a client, and has streaming radio going. Which is fine, if he wasn't playing the streaming feed from the local Kiss-FM station. And the worst part is I think they play some of the songs during their over-the-air commercial breaks, because I'll hear them play the station ID promo, but no commercials.

Katy Perry - Fireworks - x7
Pink - Raise Your Glass - x6
Edward Maya - Stereo Love - x6
Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World) - x5
Nelly - Just A Dream - x5
Other top 40 songs - x1

I'm about to break his goddammed laptop if I have to listen to that sh** the rest of the week.

Yes I know they do, but I had a $25 gift card to BB that they wouldnt match so the choice was easy. Not to mention when I called them they werent exactly the greatest at CS either.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

people who talk with food in their mouth grind my gears. I thought this was like A-#1 of the things parents taught kids not to do. it was for mine. the best is when there's food actually falling out of their mouth as they talk, and you can barely understand what they're saying. seriously, you can't wait 5 seconds to speak? is it that important?

I once had to talk to a lady on the phone who was eating a peach (at work - I tend to believe people should be a little more professional at work than they would, say, sitting on the couch in their pajamas). Have you ever heard someone talking as they're eating a peach over the phone? it's disgusting.

edit: and I knew it was a peach, because I asked her if I should call her back later after lunch, and she said.. oh no, I'm just having a peach.

I have a bunch of friends who chew with their mouth open as well. I hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it. It's disgusting. I don't want to hear you smack your mouth or crunch your chips. Gross.

One of my colleagues does this. I know he's from Iowa, but for god's sake man, by the time you hit 50 you ought to learn some manners!

People who don't use separate driving lanes when it's snowing. Every **** time I'm on my way to school when it's snowing, there's some person in a car driving right down the middle of a two lane way. Move over, I have 4 wheel, you don't, you're going 10 mph on an interstate, c'mon.

Um, that is "winter rules." Highways are different, sure, but when in doubt, you drive down the middle, 4WD or not, until lane divisions are clear, etc etc. You don't want to hit the shoulder/curb, and you don't want to cross the double-yellow line. Pretty obvious if you ask me.

Oh, I'm not talking bad roads snow, I'm saying just snowing period. The past 4 days here it's snowed a little bit each night and the interstate has been fine. The people seem so scared that they may drive over a little bit of slush. It shouldn't take me 45 minutes to get to school when it's a 12 minute drive. The lane divisions are defnitely clear, here in lake effect country, they're pretty good about that stuff.

No offense, but that "I have 4WD, I'm invincible, GTFO of my way" mentality pisses me off to no end. News flash, you're not. My fiance and I were driving to Marshfield, WI from Duluth last weekend, and we saw more 4WD vehicles go off the road than non-ones, because 4WD won't help if you hit ice or if you're driving like a jerk. And I'm saying this as someone who drives a 4WD truck.

I'm not implying that I'm invincible, I'm saying that when it's merely snowing, not necessarily snow on the interstate, don't take up both lanes. If I can see the median, dotted, and shoulder lines, there's no reason not to be driving in an established lane. Last night we got about 6 inches of snow. Not a lot, but enough to slow things down. Do have a problem with people driving slow in the dead center of the road? Absolutely not. However, tomorrow on my way to school it's supposed to have light snow showers that aren't supposed to cause any accumulation. Will I be ****ed to see people going 10 mph in the center of the lane then? You betcha. The roads were fine today on my way to campus today, with another day they'll be relatively normal. No reason for people to be going ridiculously slow in the middle of the lanes because white stuff is falling from the sky.

My Jeep Wrangler doesn't make me think I'm invincible. My Jeep Wrangler MAKES me invincible :p

It's actually tough to drive a Wrangler like a jerk because they accelerate and maneuver about as well as a brick to begin with. You're not supposed to go much faster than 45 with part-time 4WD on anyway, since it's hard on the drivetrain. And if you do eat the ditch, you can probably just drive out like nothing happened.

Treat it with respect, don't drive like a moron, and it's a beast of a winter vehicle and an absolute hoot to drive. Anchorage had a 3/4 inch ice storm one day and I scooted around in it without studs without breaking a sweat, including a jaunt up a 20 degree incline that forced the Toyota ahead of me to turn around. The short wheelbase lets it grip like a little mountain goat (unless you bought an Unlimited...poor souls.)

Grinding my gears right now is having to stay at the company's preffered hotel, and the company's preffered hotel being the only hotel in WI not within walking distance of a bar._

My dad does it too. I can be in another room and if he's eating, I can hear him munching away. Add this to some of his other table manners, such as reading the paper while eating or talking on his cell phone, I wonder why I go anywhere with him at all.

You know how I know you're lying? Everything in Wisconsin is within walking distance of a bar.

There is a restaurant that serves beer right next door, but it closes at 9:00. Other than that...nothing within about a mile and a half. (I have walked that far to drink before, but I'm not in college anymore, I'm on a business trip) Really, I just need to figure out a way to bypass the preferred hotel BS on the company's travel website.

On the bright side, the cute girl at the front desk was obviously flirting with me earlier, if she's working tomorrow night I might just get a six pack and go to the lobby and chat with her.

Take a forty of OE down with you instead. She'll be much more impressed.
