Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Packers roll Oakland 46-16. Jennings was injured early in the third. Initial reports are it's something with his left knee. Also, they clinched a first round bye with the San Francisco loss.

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

People aren't buying the stock to fund their retirement or to vote on important Packer business decisions. Whoosh. I would agree it would be a 'joke' if the Green Bay Packers were marketing it like some sort of investment opportunity or retirement plan but they are not. We ultimately buy it to support the franchise - not because we think we are going to have a say in who Ted Thompson picks in the 5th round in the 2014 draft. A real joke is the flaming tailspin your state's NFL franchise is in.

Isn't there a Vikings thread you can troll around in?

Wheeeeeeee.

It's funny you think I'm a Vikings fan. That's cute. ;) :p

My team does suck, though. Just not enough to get anything good out of the draft. I'm just afraid of losing my team to our friendly but backwards neighboring country to the north. :(

My point is, that GB fans proudly say that they own the team because of what is basically a donation to the team, when in reality, they really don't own the team, because they have no real say in what the team does. I find it silly.

I guess Madden isn't a very good simulation of the NFL. I was waiting for this the entire second half:

uhm, they most certainly would own the team, Ziggy Wilf is not the only owner of the Vikings, he's just the MAJORITY owner. Owning a share of stock still makes you a voting owner of the team, your vote is just extremely diluted and unless you convince a ton of other people to agree withyou, you have no control...but thats the way it is for any minority owner in any sport...except packers owners cant sell their share :p

That is my point of not really owning the team. Your vote doesn't matter. You can't sell your share. It's simply a donation, and you get a fancy piece of paper in return. ;)

What I've said to others is that the stock allows fans to directly invest in the team they support. Being that the Packers operate as a not-for-profit the money is used largely for facility improvements that can increase revenue, especially in a small market like Green Bay. That extra revenue helps keep up with the jones' in large market and maintain a quality, competitive product on the field.

Also, this helps reduce the load that professional sports teams tend to put on local tax payers by allowing others to opt-in for a larger share.

In the end the "owners" get the opportunity to elect or re-elect 1/3 of the board of directors each season as well special perks such as locker room tours.

If he ever has an open field touchdown and does that run, he'll be my new favorite player. Even over Chris Warcraft.

I get that Clifton won't be ready yet, but we really do need to have him available come playoff time. That LT needs to be a position we can rely on against play-off caliber defenses if we are going to pull off this 19-0 business.

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Dear Santa, I've been extra good this week. Please, no more injuries.

Packers @ KC at noon today. Out: Jennings, Bishop, Clifton, Pickett. Questionable: Saine, Starks, Sitton; Hawk should be back. With Jennings out hopefully we'll get to see more of Randall Cobb.

A win today guarantees home field all through the playoffs.

Great story on Ted Thompson's hiring of Mike McCarthy

Not a thing you can often say about this team, but this is effin' ugly.

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Well, at least now the undefeated season distraction is no longer a distraction. They need to regroup and find their mojo - losing today may be a good thing if they can refocus this week.

It will be interesting to see how the next 2 weeks play out. They still need a win (or a SF loss) to clinch home field and with all the injuries to the O line how long is MM willing to play Rodgers and risk him getting killed? He took some shots today.

Losing might be the best thing to happens the Packers all year. I know of which I speak...

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Almost game time... need to wrap up home field for the playoffs tonight without any additional injuries. Inactive for tonight:

Bulaga
Clifton
Pickett
Jennings
Zombo

You heard it here first: Butterfingers Finley bounces back tonight and has a huge game.

So far... Finley seems to be listening to you.
