Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Sitton, Clifton, Bishop, Hawk are all out today. The Giants are fighting for their playoff lives, are reportedly p!ssed about last week's poor performance, and are at home. Giants have been saying this week they are 'going to hit Rodgers.' Well, I say that's a darn good plan. I mean, it IS football and he is on the other team.

This should be the toughest test left for the Pack since the only remaining road game is in KC. Oak, Chi, Det all have to play at Lambeau.

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Anyone getting stock? I'm thinking of asking for it as a Christmas gift. Some people say it's a scam since you don't really get any power from owning stock, but if you're on the season ticket waiting list it's more of a way to speed up the process since it's going towards putting in about 8k seats.

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

It's pretty ridiculous that it's $250 plus a $25 fee. That's pretty high for a piece of paper.

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Awkward situation: I have two sisters. One wants to get a share for our old man for Christmas. But, and I've done this every year, I'm sticking to my "Let's keep it simple and not go crazy since that's not why we celebrate Christmas" mentality. It's rare that I've spent more than $50 on anyone. And now my sister wants me to chip in $90+ for a share.

If/when I say that I don't want to spend that much on gifts, how will it look if I end up getting a share of my own? Then I look like a selfish dongbag.

Since you asked...

It will look like you're a tightwad d-bag.

It's for dad, it's once in a lifetime, it's $40. Chip in and get the man a share.

It will be far better money spent than you'll get out of saving the money on "principle."

I've done dumber things with $275.

It's such a cool and unique gift. My friend has his share framed in his 'man cave' among some other football memorabilia. Everytime he has a get together it becomes the center of attention - everyone gravitates to it. It has his name on it also which makes it personal as opposed to buying some autographed memorabilia off a website. For anyone who is a Packer fan I don't think you could miss with this as a gift.

Want Packers stock? Get in line

Green Bay - Taking full advantage of the team's perfect record and the coming gift-giving holiday season, the Green Bay Packers launched its much-publicized stock sale Tuesday, giving fans around the country a chance to own a piece of a professional sports franchise.

Though the team declined to provide specific sales figures, Mark Murphy, the Packers' president and CEO, said 1,600 orders were placed in the first 11 minutes of the sale, which began at 8 a.m.

"This is an exciting day for the Packers," Murphy said Tuesday morning. "We think this is a great moment for our fans."

On Twitter, fans were reporting that it was difficult to access the website or get through on the phone. Murphy said team officials had anticipated high demand.

My sisters, my girlfriend and I bought one for my mom this afternoon. My sisters didn't hesitate at all when I emailed them. They both immediately said let's do it.

The GB stock is a joke. The team this year is not. I think the only thing stopping them from a perfect season is resting the players too much, or maybe facing the same opponent twice late in the season/playoffs a la Pats.

Too many options on offense. That is the key. Now, if Arodg gets hurt (see:concussed, most likely) that's a different story. If Arodg stays healthy, look out. It all starts with him.

Really? While the intrinsic value of owning a share of the Green Bay Packers is completely lost on someone from Minnesota maybe you can grasp the other upsides. The Packers are using the proceeds from the stock sale for a $143 million expansion of Lambeau Field - no taxpayer money will needed (they raised $400,000 in the first 11 minutes). And shareholders do actually get to vote on a few things like directors, attend annual shareholder meetings, and locker room tours.

A joke is paying the Miller Park sales tax since 1995 and continuing having to pay it until at least 2018.

Wow, way to get all over-serious. Your vote on the Packers' franchise won't matter, because there are too many others that don't actually vote. You don't get dividends, no real added bonuses for owning the stock other than saying "I own 1 share of an NFL franchise that has thousands and thousands of shares distributed," etc etc.

I agree on the taxpayer thing. I believe in user fees and franchises paying their own way (whether by loans or the like). But buying a share in GB Packer stock is a joke. Instead of a flat-out donation with nothing in return, you get a piece of paper saying you are a "co-owner" of the Packers. Wheeeeeeee.

If I'm #7569 in the season ticket list, I'm buying a share of stock because that means when this is done, I will be a season ticket holder.

You just don't understand football culture in Wisconsin. Unless you're raised here, you just can't get it. When the Packers win, we all win.

You are a prime example of why we view your state's football fan base the way that we do.

You guys just don't understand the game.

{ :p }

People aren't buying the stock to fund their retirement or to vote on important Packer business decisions. Whoosh. I would agree it would be a 'joke' if the Green Bay Packers were marketing it like some sort of investment opportunity or retirement plan but they are not. We ultimately buy it to support the franchise - not because we think we are going to have a say in who Ted Thompson picks in the 5th round in the 2014 draft. A real joke is the flaming tailspin your state's NFL franchise is in.

Isn't there a Vikings thread you can troll around in?

Wheeeeeeee.

Re: Green Bay Packers 2011 season thread

Raiders at Packers at 3:15. Hawk will play on a bad calf, Bishop and Starks are out.

Speculation abound as to how MM will handle the pursuit of a perfect season while having to consider resting his starters for the playoffs. I'm guessing until they have home field all locked up for the post season he is going all out to win.
