Three days straight of snowed out!

It's playing havoc on the HS Hockey playoffs. You don't want to know what it's like to have about 1/2 of your games on the 1st two days wiped out by snow with a limited amount of ice time available due to youth clubs not giving up their ice.

We lost an ice rink in Dale City, VA last weekend due to a roof collapse. Nobody was hurt, thank God, but the rink is totaled.

On a personal note, I got plowed (actually front end loadered) out today. I had called the County at 9 and complained we had not been plowed out and mentioned that it is an election year. Two hours later - road cleaned!!

At Dulles one of the corporate jet hangars collapsed and multiple jets were damaged...it looks like a cardboard shoe box somebody stepped on...huge beams fell on the planes.

Snow, rain now back to snow where I am now, great recipe for more roof issues.

I saw a guy with skis on the train coming into Ballston.... kinda funny. Man, the last storm was windy but it was manageable... this was ridiculous. The only thing I got done that i set out to do was get lunch... even that was mediocre.

Looks like the plows might be trying to get back out... i get the feeling that tomorrow is a wash even if the metro gets going.

If this wind keeps up, I don't see how they can keep the tracks clear for long stretches of time. The visibility is much lower this time around as well.

This time it is a rather strange storm history here-had 4-6 inches of snow by morning, then rain and sleet all day, now back to snow and coming down hard. Winds picking up also.

That's my opinion also. Friday maybe, but tomorrow no. The Metro doesn't cover everyone. If not Friday, remember that Monday is a Holiday. :eek:

When I arrived in DC in 1974, the Metro had already been planned. I don't think that they had even started to build it. Supposedly, one of the selling points would be that it would stay open all of the time. That's true about underground lines and elevated lines like most of NYC where the majority of the snow just falls to the ground, but it doesn't seem to be the case for ground-level tracks like most of the suburban lines.

most people... nah.. me... yeah

this is hell on my gym schedule... I've been dependent on barbells for my current regimen... that and the cardio machines at my apartment complex are being used by just about everybody and it seems like every one of these young super-humans can run an hour at a time.

According to my mom they're asking for people with dump trucks and backend loaders to help carry snow to the river or other dumping grounds.

You know you are a hockey fan/player when you are leaving work in a blizzard and use your backup stick (or actually backup backup stick) to clean off your car. :p
