Got Snow?

Re: Got Snow?

How many inches does the Cities have?

Family is wondering how bad it will be when we get back to Chan.

Duluth has 19 inches according to the Duluth News Tribune. That is going to be annoying cleaning that up when I get back in mid Jan. :D

Eau Claire has rain...the streets are a slushy mess. And it is wrecking pond hockey with relatives :(:(

Re: Got Snow?

We have probably gotten about 10-12 inches tops in Coon Rapids. Today, it is giving the young ones a lesson in all the different kinds of precipitation. Snow, sleet, rain, freezing drizzle. Sometimes it is all at the same time. The raods here are now a slushy disaster as well. It was warm enough last night and into today that outdoor rinks are more than likely screwed.

Re: Got Snow?

Tons of rain here in South Chicago... We lost the 3 inches of snow from the other day and with the rain now have some minor flooding going on... What's going to suck is that the temps are supposed to drop below freezing again later today and stay there... Everything is going to cinch up

And yes, the weather ruining pond hockey sucks balls... We finally got cold enough down here and then this s*** happens

Re: Got Snow?

Just cleaned out the driveway with the tractor for the third time since yesterday. That is some wet sloppy stuff coming down. I wouldn't worry about it until it stops, but the kids are coming over and the end of the driveway keeps getting plowed in.
After the first round this morning, I wondered what I was going to wear for subsequent rounds since everything I had on was soaked. My wife said "why don't you put on one of the dozen or so expensive gortex duck hunting outfits you have in every conceivable camo pattern?

:o

Re: Got Snow?

I just hope it doesn't take an hour of shoveling to get into the house once we head back home!

Re: Got Snow?

Forcasted ice for tonight up in northernmost NY. supposed to start ~ midnight and go through tomorrow with anything from freezing rain, snow, sleet, rain. They're saying quarter to half inch of ice accumulation tonight, then a few inches of snow at some point. With the temperature right around freezing though, who knows what will happen.

Oh boo hoo. :p

Here's some real snowfall:

Nothing says "welcome back" like having to shovel through a snowbank as big as your car.

That was the amount of snow that accumulated on my car while I was at class from 10am to 2pm on Feb. 2nd.

Re: Got Snow?

Around noon today I left to head to Crystal. Hwy 55 in Plymouth was a friggin' joke. They sorta kinda maybe plowed, and all the slushy stuff half-froze, so it'd push the vehicles around quite a bit. Saw 3 cars in the ditch.

I was doing about 25-30 mph (55mph limit) and it was tough to keep the Jeep on the road.

That being said, the side roads were excellent. They were either plowed, or not plowed; no half-arse plowing had occurred on them.

Now it's raining, and when it gets back to below freezing tonight, those roads are gonna be bad.

It's not real because its enhanced by Lake Effect ;)

Re: Got Snow?

A lot of snow from today melted, but the temps are dropping and it's snowing again, so there's a lot of slush out there.

I work at 6am tomorrow and am not looking forward at all to driving in an icy/slushy mix. I'm not sure whether to take local main roads or try the interstate tomorrow morning. Lower quality but lower speeds vs better quality but more traffic and higher speeds. Either way it'll likely be a crappy trip.

Re: Got Snow?

If your driveways are a slushy mess you should shovel them off NOW, unless you like to shovel ice.

The roads around the house will not be plowed again in time to prevent monstrous, bone-jarring, ice ruts from forming. They will then be there until March. Hoo-ray.

All things considered, I think MnDOT has done a pretty dam* fine job so far. And over Christmas that can't be the easiest thing to do for them.

Overall, they have, don't get me wrong. But for some reason, they always neglect Hwy 55, which is a major secondary route (if you're local, you know what I mean) for people in this area. I just think there's something wrong when my parents' cul-de-sac, which is buried in the side roads (you really have to know where you're going), is plowed before Hwy 55 is.

Tomorrow should be interesting driving for everyone, as the rain is now snow again, and I'm guessing the black ice/glare ice will be everywhere.

Highway 55 in the SE metro is pure ****. I saw vehicles facing the wrong way in the ditch on every single commute since Thursday morning.

I-94 between Minneapolis and Hudson was pretty bad the morning of Christmas Eve. There was a night and day difference when you hit the bridge to get to Hudson.
