Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

well, that was more of a metaphor, but still...

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

Please for the life me I hope the lighting in Amsoil arena is better. If not the viewing pleasure will be shot. I don't know what is worse from tv point of view Amsoil or Magness. They stink.

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

I did find it odd that Gopher fans were cheering for UMD last year. I could never imagine cheering for State...or even worse...(gasp) Ohio St. I even saw some Gopher fans cheering for NoDak! It gave me goosebumps...

ANYWAY! Patterson will be the difference in the series. If he gets in the zone, it'll be a great series. If he gets into trouble early, UMD will win easy, and more than likely sweep. I'll predict a split though. The Gophers have a lot to prove this year, and this is their first step in proving all the doubters.

Friday- Minn 3, UMD 2
Saturday- Minn 2, UMD 4

Man you guys have gotten cautious, Scooby is really rubbing off on everyone. I know I'm a noob, but been lurking around since the beginning. Where's the smack talk? While what you're saying is probably spot on, and trust me, I've been a Gopher fan in all sports so long my balls are black and blue from all the beatings, but I'm still going with this...

Gophers sweep and throw your mascot over the Aerial Bridge on the way home.

p.s The Pickwick rocks!
What could we possibly have to trash talk about?! This team needs to show me some major improvement until I start trash talking and feeling the confidence/arrogance that goes along with being a Golden Gopher Hockey fan. Am I excited that the season is finally upon us? Hell yeah! But I am not making any bold predictions about this team or getting my hopes up until I see said improvement from this team. I agree with SS' point of view. Let's see some decent defensive play, a little PP action, and some hustle/grit/intensity for a full game. Let's talk again in a couple weeks after this team has faced UMD, a decent NC team in Vermont, a long trip to AA, sue at home, and then a series at sconnie. Let's see how they fair in those games before we jump to any conclusions eh? I understand the excitment, but goodness gracious, it was Sacred Heart the Gophers beat up on last weekend, not some national powerhouse. I have had multiple people tell me this could be a Frozen Four season for the Gophers...are you kidding me?!

I agree with Wes, not much to trash talk about yet. We should have a better idea about our team after this weekend on the road, it will certainly take a few more weekends to know what we have this year.

2pts on the road would be a good start

I'm not trying to be a downer or anything. I'm just not getting my hopes up. People have been saying this kind of stuff about the Gophers the last 3 years and here we sit. So I'm not getting my hopes up until I see some good solid hockey and improvement from the current team.

I'm going to be optimistic and say they will make the Final Five and the NCAA's this year. Hopefully they will make some noise while doing it.

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

UMD split with the former number one team Notre Dame (We all know this). I think that says a lot. Moving on to Minnesota, Goldie swept last weekend (Not a big shocker). This should make for a great series in Duluth.
Prediction's:
Friday Night- UMD 3 Minnesota- 2
Saturday Night- UMD 2 Minneaota 4

If what happened last weekend with UMD (Win Friday, Lose Saturday) it's going to be a long season!

Exactly. I am with you on the FF and hopefully a tourney appearance. Some of these people are drooling over this past weekend against SH and having Guentzel back and whatnot. To me that is all blah blah blah until this team shows me something on the ice.

UMD isn't really a big rivalry like it used to be which is why many Gopher fans cheered for the Bulldogs. The Michigan rivalry is bigger and I for sure would never cheer for Michigan or for that matter anybody in the Big Ten.

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

I don't think it's drooling over the performance this past weekend as it is optimism that the effort and consistency seems to be improved, and the realism that the Bulldogs aren't exactly the same team we saw last year. 3/4 games we played against them last year were tight, and I don't expect anything different this year. However, I am optimistic (not convinced) that this Gopher team will be able to together a more consistent effort than teams of years past. I'm guessing a split, with both games being tight.

Teams in the past? There hasn't been a consistent effort from any Gopher team the last three years.

I think most Gopher fans cheered for UMD because they are a Minnesota-based team. That, and as you imply, they are not Michigan! ;)

P.S. I'm going to really savor these important WCHA series this year and next...

That's what I'm saying. I'm optimistic that will change this year. People can point to Sacred Heart's mediocrity and say that series didn't matter, but the consistency of effort and hustle (even when leading by a wide margin) is something that you can take away regardless of the opponent.

I don't think talent has been the big issue recently. The Gophers beat some pretty good teams last year. Their consistency and effort has been the biggest issue IMO.

Talent imo hasn't been the issue. On the other hand desire and playing as a team is another storey.

Couldn't agree more. That's why I was happy to hear players saying that this team is closer than other recent teams. Another thing that can be taken away before playing a quality opponent.

Much remains to be seen, but I don't think the optimism is unwarranted.

I do not understand this. Clearly they are not hockey fans, more Big Ten fans in hockey clothing.

Cheering for UMD, even though the games between tUMtc and UMD are rivalry games (go to amsoil and listen to the cheers if you aren't sure), I'd much rather have the Bulldogs in the NCAA tourney than any other WCHA team. If another Minnesota school got in the frozen four I'd cheer for them too. Must be a different mindset than in Michigan.

I'm optimistic this year because of the cleaning out of the low performers. Goal production was weak last year and I see scoring from all lines this year. The D hasn't been challenged and this weekend will be a big test. Also UMD lost top talent from last year, it's a new team.
