Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

"But I guess it doesn't matter because the team with the best program won as they should have anyways."

Really? ...just more arrogance that's typical of a Gopher fan.

You mean the MN program that for the last 3-4 years (even while still finishing above .500) has been in serious trouble with it's fanbase? UMD has capitalized on the debacle (or speed bump) LOL that has happened in the Twin Cities. A school that never really carried much more then 50% Minnesotan's on its roster because the top players wanted to play under the big spotlight now has a roster the last couple of years consisting of ~90% MN players.

Or do you mean overall? I seem to remember seeing lots of "Fire Lucia" postings. That the program can't develop players, etc. etc. etc.

Maybe MN has turned it around with this group of Fresh/Soph. and they have developed the "we" instead of the "me" attitude that has been obviously apparent in past seasons.

In all sports, chemistry is key... Vikings had it in Favre's first year and according to "insiders" it wasn't there last year. Issues behind the bench, in the locker room, on the ice all can shake up a program.

I just want to say, currently... your statement isn't accurate. Historically, MN is the biggest, most recognized school in the state. But, UMD has the National Title on campus and that my friend tells me that their program has/or is being ran rather well...at least currently. 2001-02,-03 was 10 years ago and 1983-85 some of UMDs best years were a long time ago. Remember a guy named Brett Hull? How come one of the greatest of all-time college & pro didn't play at MN?

Key differences - UMN's down periods are MUCH fewer and farther between. And when UMN struggles, they are usually average. You have to go all the way back to the early 70's to find season winning percentages as low as UMD saw prior to their recent turnaround

To even try and compare programs is laughable. And before you cry about us not throwing praise to your program for winning an NCAA title keep in mind that your fan base rarely has done the same for us and we've won 5 NCAA titles.

So please, save the "no respect" card. Stop hating on our program for every little piece of success we have and maybe you guys will get a little respect in return.

And this coming from a guy who was happy to see UMD win it's first title.

No kidding...I'm hoping an English translation is forthcoming.

You know, when one casts bait out, you hope to get something. When you catch a Lunker Large-mouthed asss it is just a bonus.

Did you actually read his diatribes? And yet you expect him to understand a cogent, logical response?

I was bored :)

Understandable. Same excuse for some of my posts today. I don't usually play the arrogance card, but felt a few Dog fans deserved it. (and its been too long since I felt like I could.)

I don't doubt that Ciskie is a homer on the live game call. But I think we tend to see that with most radio guys calling games for the home team.

Does Ciskie do radio or TV? I am talking about their TV guys. They are as bad as Sonmor, easily. Almost un-listenable, even when the Dogs are playing a team you would like to see them beat. I just always was bugged when people ripped on the Rug and Doug for being biased. They definitely cheered on the Gophs, but I think that is their job when they broadcast for one team. But when it came to judging penalties or plays, I thought they were very fair.

Ciskie does radio for them. He's actually not that bad of a guy. I just think he's an uber-homer and is kinda brash at times. As Hammy said, a lot of these guys are partial to the teams they cover though.

I have no doubt Ciskie is a good guy. I just don't like his game-calling. I dislike blatant homers during broadcasts. Doesn't give a true description of the texture of the game.

"They're idiots then. The 5 on the UMD player was clearly a 5. They showed the angle on TV. When he hit the guy he could clearly see the number on Rau's back and he drove him into the boards. That's a 5 every time."

WOW...I was at the game, I've seen Rau play in H.S. a handfull of times. The kid is a good, smart hockey player. Yesterday I read an article online someplace (I'm sure someone can find it) about the new officiating rules in the NHL(which have been changed pretty much across the board concerning hits and those centered around the head) and the article centered around Cal Clutterbuck and how certain players just at the point of impact were turning on the play to a)either avoid contact or b)draw a penalty.

Rau did just that on this call (applause for Kyle)...from my view I saw Rau along the boards heading towards the MN bench w/the puck. The UMD D was a step or two away (going to make that "shoulder to shoulder" check) at that point Rau showed him his numbers, (hit the brakes, went to reverse his direction)...PENALTY... make-up call? maybe likely, but like I said when they called Buddish (he'll get 5 for that, probably doesn't deserve it), instantly the same had to be done on this hit.

Like Clutterbuck stated, he's had to pull up at the very last second and it has changed the way the game is played, Luke McManus probably had time to pull up and avoid contact, which he didn't.

Doesn't matter whether the guy posts a sign on his back with blinking neon lights that says check me into the boards, it's CFB... quit the whining.

Exactly my point... Buddish got called for a 5 min major penalty... Fact is a fact. So did McManus... CFB, contact to the head... how often do you see calls made by refs that were incorrect (correct they made the call, but called the wrong penalty?)... it happens over and over again. I read post after post on how he (Buddish) shouldn't have been called. Gophers fans with the coke bottle glasses on doing what you accused me of? Really?

After all, I just happen to live in Titletown, USA... all you gopher lovers... LOSERVILLE, USA.

So, basically you have no clue what checking from behind is. Thanks for letting us all know.

Shoulder to shoulder isn't from behind. Or to the head.

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

Some sloppy passing, but I like the fight back from the Gophers again tonight.

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

I didn't make the calls on the ice, neither did all of you armchair refs. Plenty of crying over the Buddish call tho.

Last night was last night, so I'll leave it be. Missed interference call as JT Brown pushed the puck in the zone around the D and then was called himself on a "phantom" elbow. But why should I? You're high on your wine & cheese.

But I'll make a correction on a call against Grun in the first period tonight, FSN even gave us a good replay and the LOVEFEST crew ignored the fact that a charging call was made on a play where Grun's feet were on the ice, gliding/coasting as he entered the frame and layed a shoulder to shoulder check... Gophers come back with a power play goal.

Oh, and not to forget the Bowling Green bounces they continue to get.

Remember, Duluth is Titletown, USA... MPLS/ST. PAUL... LOSERVILLE... some of your very own bring it up on a weekly basis.

Scooby... before you think you know what I know... go ahead and rewind... you seem to be an expert at that and maybe you should read my first two posts. A penalty was called on the ice, it was obvious (to all those actually at the game) they were going to call a 5 min major on Buddish.

Oh, and to be fair, I haven't seen the replay (didn't have the lovefest of chubby 1 and chubby 2 to replay it for me).
But thanks for getting me to log into your lovefest and point out a few things.

I figured I'd enlighten you all this afternoon, since the gopher arrogance and coke-bottle sydrome is still in full force.

Let's talk some gopher football shall we? When did they last win anything?

Thank you for clarifying. I thought you just didn't know what checking from behind was. Now I know that you don't know anything at all.
