Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Smart programmers have decided that the software checks regional settings. Date and time format has to be English (USA). I changed those on Win XP Control Panel and it rocks now. Seems that on weekend I have night shift for watching UMD series. We are 8 hours ahead.
Habs, were you able to watch the game without problems?

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Note to UMD followers: Our European goaltender is better than your European goaltender.

Noora Räty was on her way to number 1 star throughout most of the game. She was spectacular.

Note to leafsfan and habs: OK, I'm convinced. You knew, we had to find out. She IS the real deal.

Meanwhile Harss for UMD looks like she may have a little hole along the ice on the stick side. She was cleanly beaten there three times, the first time off the post, the next two times for the first two goals of the game.

It is always fun when UMD comes to town. Fans are guaranteed high quality, high speed hockey. That's the way it was tonight, an entertaining game between two really good teams.

Tonight's result is good. Here's hoping the Gophers can get another win tomorrow.

Former Gopher noted in attendance: 2009 WCHA Defensive Player of the Year, Melanie Gagnon.

I could have easily from USCHO. I managed to get on demand shots from Golden Zone. So I expect it will work. I was too tired after heavy working week. 3AM in the morning as starting time did not attract me. Definitely I watch the game this evening. 10PM is much better.

I knew Noora would be between the pipes. She was very confident before the game. And did what we expected here in Finland. Mira has also done well.

Went to the game last night and it was well worth it. UMD skated very well and displayed lots of skill. They certainly made it interesting in the 3rd, when I thought the Gophers at times lost their patience with the puck and had a hard time getting it out of their zone.

It'll be interesting today who starts in goal!

You know it will be Raty. The other two will now be sitting all year and man can some other D1 teams use them.

Geez, bitter much? Raty will be missing a good number of games this season due to national team commitments. The other two will still get their chances to play.

What's not to like about sweeping the Dogs?
Hard as I try...I can't think of anything. Thought Minnesota brought the good effort in both games this weekend. Pretty strong forecheck from everyone up front, again, for both contests. Obviously two great games from Noora. There were some troubles in their own end in both games...Noora saved us in all but just one instance on the weekend. The way she's playing, I can't see questioning giving her the starts.

I continue to be impressed with the play of the entire freshman class.

Particularly good weekends for some upperclassmen...Jones, Erickson & Ras, I thought...but primarily good team wins is the way I'd catagorize the sweep.

Edit: Have to add Kelli B to the upperclassmen mentioned as having great weekends. Awesome goal by #7 today...I thought I was watching Thomas Vanek for a moment there.

Former Gophers in attendance (that I noticed):

Melanie Gagnon again.

Fresh off a goal against Team Canada last night in Spokane: Gigi Marvin.

To add to your count for the weekend, saw Kim Hanlon at Friday night's game and Whit Graft was doing color commentary today for The Gold Zone.

EDIT: ... plus one future Gopher who has not yet been announced.

I have a tongue twister for you -- I now consider Noora to be a "Finnish freshman phenom." :D

The thing that pleases me the most is that the Gopher penalty-killers shut down UMD's power play units all weekend. After being lit up by OSU a week ago (particularly on the 9th), there was definite improvement. Add in the two short-handed goals today, and it's a night-and-day difference.

Congrats to Kelly B. as well for getting her first of the season. Nice reward for hard work down in the Bulldog end.

Question -- any idea how they're going to get the pictures of 4 more Olympians in the Olympic mural? ;) Think they can have it updated before the Frozen Four? :p

Would that be a tall blonde girl from Ontario?
If ARM saw the same person that I saw I don't think so.

I saw a former NHL player and his daughter in the crowd. I don't know the stage of recruitment and I don't know if she qualifies as "one future Gopher who has not yet been announced" but her dad still looked good making a one handed catch of a souvenir tee shirt chucked into the crowd by Goldy.

Tall daughter of a former Gopher mens player perhaps?
